WCCFTECH.COMHuawei Unveils Its Next-Gen Ascend 920 AI Chip To Fill The Market Gap Created By NVIDIA; US Export Controls Are Working In Favour of China For NowMenu Home News Hardware Gaming Mobile Finance Deals Reviews How To Wccftech HardwareIndustry Huawei Unveils Its Next-Gen Ascend 920 AI Chip To Fill The Market Gap Created By NVIDIA; US Export Controls Are Working In Favour of China For Now Muhammad Zuhair • Apr 18, 2025 at 12:48pm EDT Huawei isn't stopping when it comes to giving NVIDIA a tough competition in the Chinese market, as the firm has unveiled its next-gen Ascend 920 chip. Huawei's Ascend 920 AI Chip Seen As a Viable Alternative To NVIDIA's H20, Team Green Is Losing Ground In The Chinese AI Market There's no doubt that Team Green is the leading firm in providing AI hardware, but it seems like the balance is tilting towards the likes of Huawei and others. Recently, we reported on how NVIDIA is now barred from exporting its H20 AI accelerator to China, which is gaining massive adoption from domestic tech giants. This has created a new opportunity for Huawei to step up its AI solutions, and with this, the Chinese tech giant has unveiled its new AI chip, the Ascend 920 (via DigiTimes). The details about the chip are confined for now, but it is revealed that the Ascend 920 is a direct competitor to NVIDIA's H20, given that special focus has been made on ensuring that the supply chain is entirely an "in-house" one. The accelerator is claimed to utilize SMIC's 6nm process, which is an upgrade over the Ascend 910C, which featured 7nm. In terms of performance, it is claimed that the Ascend 920 will feature 900 TFLOPS, a memory bandwidth of 4,000 GB/s, and a chiplet design similar to the Ascend 910C. It is claimed that Huawei's new chip is around 30%- 40% faster than the previous generation, and considering this, it could be concluded that the Ascend 920 is superior to NVIDIA's H20. However, we should wait and see actual testing by third-party reviewers to ensure that the performance claims are valid here. Interestingly, this development only came one day after the new export controls on NVIDIA, which shows that Huawei is determined to be the leading hardware supplier in the region. Apart from individual chips, Huawei has also made huge strides in the AI cluster segment. The firm's CloudMatrix 384 system, which is based on the Ascend 910C chips, is said to be faster in performance compared to NVIDIA's "cutting-edge" GB200 NVL72 system. This validates the fact that Huawei plans to go all out in the AI segment, while NVIDIA is still finding trouble with export regulations and maintaining its position in China. WWW.POLYGON.COMSkyblivion fan project moving forward despite remaster rumors: ‘Players will be the true winners,’ devs sayThe folks behind Skyblivion, a fan project focused on porting The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion to the Skyrim engine, will continue development in the face of continued rumors about an Oblivion remaster supervised by Bethesda itself. “We are on track for our planned release later this year,” the Skyblivion team said on Bluesky. “The prospect of an official remaster is exciting. Players will be the true winners, having the opportunity to experience both a community-driven reimagining and a professional version of Oblivion.” Whispers of an Oblivion remaster have existed since 2023, when leaked documents from the Federal Trade Commission’s legal battle with Microsoft over the tech corporation’s acquisition of Bethesda parent company ZeniMax Media revealed internal plans for the project. Reports of the remaster’s imminent release heated up earlier this year, culminating in the discovery of actual screenshots in the backend of supposed remaster studio Virtuos’ website in April. We’ve reproduced the entirety of the Skyblivion team’s very classy statement below: We’ve been following the buzz surrounding an official remaster of Oblivion. As dedicated Elder Scrolls fans, we are incredibly excited by this prospect and sincerely hope the information proves accurate. The glimpses we’ve seen look fantastic, and we eagerly anticipate the possibility of experiencing a modern, professionally developed return to Cyrodiil. Bethesda has always been supportive of community projects like ours, and we don’t see that changing anytime soon. As a PC mod, a console release is impossible for us, so the remaster presents a wonderful opportunity for console players to re-experience Oblivion, something our project could never directly provide. We want to emphasize that there is no need for comparisons or a sense of competition between Skyblivion and a potential official remaster. Both projects can exist and thrive together, offering unique experiences for players. Skyblivion is a labor of love, built by a dedicated community for the community, offering a distinct way to revisit Oblivion within the familiar framework of the Creation Engine. Similarly, an official remaster would undoubtedly bring its own set of advancements with the full funding of a development studio. We see this not as a conflict, but as a fantastic opportunity for Elder Scrolls fans to have even more way to enjoy the classic world of Cyrodiil. We extend our gratitude to our incredible community for their unwavering support, enthusiasm, and patience throughout our development journey. Your passion fuels our dedication. We also want to cheer on the talented game developers at Virtuos and any other teams potentially involved in bringing an official Oblivion remaster to life. We recognize the immense effort and artistry that goes into such a significant undertaking. Ultimately, 2025 promises to be a remarkable year for fans of Oblivion. We are confident that players will be the true winners, having the opportunity to experience both a community-driven reimagining and a professional, modern version of this beloved game. We look forward to sharing more about Skyblivion’s progress soon as we approach its release later this year. Skyblivion began development in 2012 and is scheduled to launch sometime in 2025.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 60 Просмотры

DESIGN-MILK.COMF5: Elizabeth Rees on a Stack of Books, Vintage Wicker + MoreElizabeth Rees comes from a tradition of printing, and knows that the right graphics can have a lasting impact. The family business specialized in large-format projects like billboards and advertisements found on buses. When Rees lived in Manhattan, she helped a friend who needed to update her office, and came up with a peel-and-stick wallpaper. Not only was it easy to use, it could also be changed to suit a range of interiors. Her wallpaper was the perfect product for design-obsessed clients who wanted to experiment with color and pattern without having to commit to an expensive renovation. Rees co-founded Chasing Paper with her brother Mike Rees in 2013. Today Rees and the company are based in her hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she lives with her husband and two daughters. Chasing Paper now offers a complete line of solutions and products produced in collaboration with noted designers and influencers, from murals to tile decals. Elizabeth Rees of Chasing Paper \\\ Photo: Courtesy of Chasing Paper Surrounded by motifs and hues from every end of the spectrum, it’s no surprise that Rees is a visual learner. She hopes her own tale will be in print too, in the form of a book that bibliophiles will cherish. “I love to tell stories and find the right words to convey a certain feeling or moment in time,” she says. “It would be a dream to write a novel one day.” Rees has plenty of projects on tap, and her days include different facets of leadership. Never afraid to speak in front of an audience, Rees has discovered that she enjoys being a facilitator. She moderated two panels last year, and the role came naturally to her. It was also a fun break from her routine, and she’s looking forward to more opportunities to engage in this way. Balance isn’t always easy to achieve, but one habit ensures that Rees stays centered no matter what is happening. “I think getting outside or on the treadmill allows me to transition from work to home life,” she notes. “Walking helps me to clear my mind and reduce the stress I have been carrying in my body during the day.” Today, Elizabeth Rees joins us for Friday Five! The Charmspring Springboard is one of my favorite ways to give my family a sense of routine and control in a fun, visual, and design-forward way. Photo: Kaboompics 2. A Stack of Books (Always!) There’s something about a stack of well-loved books that instantly makes a space feel lived-in and layered. Right now, I’m deep into The Creative Act by Rick Rubin – a must-read for anyone in the design world. I also love novels and just finished All the Colors of the Dark, which was so immersive and well written. Photo: Elizabeth Rees 3. The Brick Device I’m always looking for ways to be more present, and the Brick device is such a smart take on digital detoxing. It’s a minimalist block that restricts what you can access on your smartphone, allowing you to be in the moment without the distractions of social media and endless notifications. Whether I’m brainstorming new wallpaper designs or coloring with my daughters – this device has helped me get some healthy distance from the pull of being always connected to technology. I recently added a set to my kitchen, and they instantly make everyday moments feel more joyful. It’s a reminder that great design isn’t just for big statement pieces – small touches can be just as impactful. Photo: Courtesy of Chasing Paper 5. Vintage Wicker I’m always on the hunt for unique vintage finds, and lately, I can’t get enough of vintage wicker. It adds just the right amount of texture and warmth to a space, balancing out more modern pieces with a bit of character. Whether styled with a throw pillow or left bare for a sculptural moment, it brings effortless charm to any room. LIFEHACKER.COMMy Favorite Amazon Deal of the Day: The Samsung Galaxy Watch 7We may earn a commission from links on this page. Deal pricing and availability subject to change after time of publication.Apple users have Apple Watches, but it's not so simple for Android users. Depending if you have a Pixel or a Samsung phone, there's a smartwatch that will work seamlessly better with your phone. If you have a Samsung, there's no doubt that a Samsung Galaxy Watch is the option. For most people, that watch is the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 (and yes, it works with any Android phone). Right now, you can get it for $289.99 (originally $379.99), the lowest price it has been according to price tracking tools. Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 $289.99 at Amazon $379.99 Save $90.00 Get Deal Get Deal $289.99 at Amazon $379.99 Save $90.00 The Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 came out in 2024 to an "excellent" review from PCMag for its incredibly accurate heart rate measurement, detailed sleep monitoring data tracking, AI health insights, and overall smooth user experience. You get a Super AMOLED screen of 44 mm or 40mm, the latter running for $259.99 (originally $349.99) right now. This LTE version means you're not dependent on wifi to use the internet and can receive calls or listen to music without depending on your phone. The main downside you'll see with this smartwatch (and most Galaxy watches) is the short battery life. It lasts about 22 hours, depending on use, according to PCMag's tests (it can last up to 28 hours if you don't use the GPS). This means you'll likely need to charge it overnight or during the day, making the sleep tracking hard to use. However, the watch does charge pretty quickly, reaching max battery in 88 minutes. If you care about fitness and sleep tracking, it's hard to beat the Wear OS, especially at its current price. You can have metrics from its Heart Rate Monitor, Blood Oxygen Monitor, Pedometer, Barometer, Temperature Sensor, Gyroscope, and others, and they're accurate. However, if you can't get over the short battery, consider the ONEPLUS Watch 2 for $245.34.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 62 Просмотры

WWW.ENGADGET.COMTesla accused of messing with odometers to get out of repair billsTesla is facing a proposed class action suit over allegations that it has been speeding up odometers so its vehicles will fall out of warranty faster, according to a report by Reuters. This would make it easier for the company to get out of paying for repairs. Nyree Hinton, the plaintiff in the case, alleges that Tesla odometer readers are designed to change with energy consumption, driver behavior and mysterious predictive algorithms, and not actual mileage driven. He said that the odometer on the 2020 Model Y he bought in December 2022 had 36,772 miles on the clock at the time of purchase. Hinton alleges that the odometer went up by 72 miles each day, when he only drove around 20. He made comparisons to his other vehicles and concluded that the odometer ran, at the minimum, 15 percent fast. This caused his 50,000-mile basic warranty to expire ahead of schedule, which forced him to pay a $10,000 suspension repair bill out of pocket. "By tying warranty limits and lease mileage caps to inflated 'odometer' readings, Tesla increases repair revenue, reduces warranty obligations, and compels consumers to purchase extended warranties prematurely," the complaint said. Hinton is seeking compensatory damage for himself, but also punitive damages for all Tesla drivers in California. This encompasses over one million vehicles, according to court papers. Tesla has denied all allegations in the lawsuit. EV forums and related subreddits, however, are filled with odometer complaints involving the company. Tesla owners are seeing inflated odometer readings 20-30% higher than driving the same route with a different vehicle or compared to Google Maps trip distance.Hey @NHTSAgov you up? pic.twitter.com/Gb2LiBfZge— Mike Rundle (@flyosity) April 22, 2024 Of course, this isn’t the first time Tesla has been charged with fibbing about mileage data. The automaker has faced litigation that accused it of inflating vehicle driving ranges. It has also been accused of forming a secret “Diversion Team” that would cancel range-related service appointments. This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/transportation/evs/tesla-accused-of-messing-with-odometers-to-get-out-of-repair-bills-165625372.html?src=rss0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 53 Просмотры
