GAMINGBOLT.COMDays Gone’s Upcoming Remaster Seems Like it Might be Worth a LookThe upcoming Days Gone remaster has caught plenty of flak since its existence was first leaked, which – let’s face it – has been the case with the overwhelming majority of remasters and re-releases that Sony has greenlit over the course of the PlayStation 5 generation. And I’ll start this off by saying that it’s easy to see where all of that skepticism is coming from- because, once again, like so many of Sony’s other remasters in recent years, it is a little hard to understand the logic behind Days Gone Remastered’s very existence. For starters, the original is not that old, and it definitely doesn’t feel aged in any real way. It is perfectly playable and easily accessible on multiple major platforms in the form of the PS5, PS4, and PC, and it looks great and runs without any major issues, for the most part. There’s also the fact that in Sony’s own estimation, Days Gone wasn’t the critical and commercial success that the company had hoped it would be, to the point where a sequel never got greenlit, the game’s directors moved on from the studio, and Bend Studio began working on a completely new IP (that then got cancelled- but that’s a whole another can of worms). Here we are, however, with Sony on the verge of releasing a remastered version of the post-apocalyptic open world zombie-slaying game, and questions being asked about why it exists at all, and why Sony couldn’t instead focus on other titles that people do actually want to see remasters for- like the inFamous games, or the Killzone games, or the one that no one can seem to shut up about, Bloodborne. So again, I do get the skepticism surrounding Days Gone’s release- I even share some of it. But it also does seem to be shaping up to be a package that could appeal to newcomers or those who want to give the game another shot. Above all else, there’s the plain and simple fact that Days Gone Remastered is going to launch in a much better technical state than the original Days Gone did back in the day. It probably wouldn’t be fair to call Bend’s 2019 game anywhere close to a technical disaster, especially given how many actual examples we’ve had of technical disasters over recent years, but at the same time, there’s no denying that when it first released for PS4 six years ago, Days Gone was surprisingly unpolished and rough around the edges for a first-party PlayStation title. We’ve already seen what a more polished launch can do for Days Gone in terms of elevating its critical reception by a legitimately noticeable degree, as evidenced by how well-received the game was when it launched for PC. As such, the prospect of a native enhanced PS5 version that allows the game’s core strengths to shine stronger with no significant technical hiccups to get in the way of things is an intriguing one, especially for those who couldn’t get into the game upon its original release because of its technical issues. Though other unfortunate weaknesses that are baked into the experience – from the rough writing and dialogue to the stop-start pacing, especially in the first couple dozen hours or so – are obviously not going to be addressed by a simple remaster, in other ways, the game should ideally be more polished and easier to get into- assuming the remaster doesn’t suffer from entirely new problems of its own. Days Gone Remastered is also promising some interesting visual and technical bumps. Among other things, it will feature faster load times, VRR and 3D audio support, implementation of the DualSense’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, and graphical enhancements like improved fidelity, shadow and lighting quality, draw distances, and foliage density. All of that is obviously the sort of stuff that you’d expect to see in a PS5 remaster, so by no means is Days Gone going the extra mile with these upgrades, but it is, at the very least, delivering a version of the game that’s going to leverage the PS5’s more powerful hardware to some degree. The headlining additions that Days Gone Remastered is betting everything on, however, aren’t its technical enhancements, but a handful of entirely new modes. First and foremost, there’s Horde assault, which will task players with trying to survive as long as possible against increasingly larger and more vicious waves of Freakers, while acquiring new rewards and stronger gear to give yourself a better fighting chance. Taking on overwhelmingly large hordes of the undead was when Days Gone was at its best, as many will tell you, so a mode that specifically zeroes in on that aspect is a pretty smart addition. Players will also have other new ways to experience the game in the form of a permadeath mode and a speedrun mode, both of which will do exactly what it says on the tin. The former will challenge you to finish an entire playthrough of the story without dying a single time, while the latter will see you racing against the clock as you try and get to credits as quickly as you possibly can. Beyond that, there’s new Photo Mode additions to look forward to in the form of a new lighting system, time of day options, and more. Of all of Days Gone Remastered’s biggest improvements and additions, not one is the sort that instantly grabs attention, turns skeptics into believers, and compels everyone to at least give the new release a look, if not purchase it outright. On one hand, that doesn’t do much to help with the fact that there are many who are questioning why the remaster needed to be made at all, but at the same time, Sony is smartly pricing at in a manner that, by and large, is inoffensive enough that makes it very easy to ignore for those who don’t care, and easy to consider for those who do have at least a passing interest. When Days Gone Remastered releases for PS5 later in April, it will be available for a price of $49.99, while those who already own the original PS4 version will be able to upgrade to the PS5 re-release for just $10, similar to how Sony handled last year’s Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered (another game that faced similar criticisms and skepticism, funnily enough). While Sony has rightly received endless criticism over the course of this console generation for its aggressive pricing strategies, picking a cheaper price point and an even more reasonable upgrade price for what is unquestionably a conservative remaster is definitely the right move. How well Days Gone Remastered will end up doing is anyone’s guess at this point, though the most optimist among us will probably be hoping that it does well enough to make Sony and Bend Studio change their minds about a sequel and greenlight a Days Gone 2. If not that, however, at the very least, the remaster should prove to be a great excuse for those who never played the original (or those who did and want to dive back in) to check it out, this time with added bells and whistles. Days Gone may not be among PlayStation’s best first-party offerings in the last decade, but it does deserve more attention than it received on its first go-around. WWW.POLYGON.COMThe Pokémon TCG Team Rocket cards showcase everyday crime lifeThe Japanese-language Pokémon Trading Card Game set The Glory of Team Rocket dropped on April 18, meaning we finally have a clear look at the cards that will be released in North America as part of the Destined Rivals set on May 30.While some people expected to see Jessie and James, the iconic Team Rocket dunce duo from the anime, they are nowhere to be seen in this set. Rather, we see the admins from the Pokémon games: Archer and Ariana, who debuted in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal; and Petrel and Proton, who debuted in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. Of course, we also see the big boss man, Giovanni, alongside some nameless grunts.1/5Image: hncl/Creatures Inc., The Pokémon Company via PokéBeachContinuing from the last few expansions, these cards also focus on Pokémon owned by the featured trainers, meaning we’re getting sick cards like Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex.Image: Iwamoto05/Creatures Inc., The Pokémon Company via PokéBeachThere’s also a lot of cards that just show the gang hanging out with their Pokémon. The gang might be evil, but even they have their peaceful moments, I guess. Notably, the Team Rocket’s Wobbuffet card shown below should be the promo card featured in the Elite Trainer Box for Destined Rivals.Image: Saboteri/Creatures Inc., The Pokémon Company via PokéBeachThere’s also a few cards that don’t explicitly feature Team Rocket baddies in them, if that’s more of your thing — including this gorgeous Blaziken.Image: kodama/Creatures Inc., The Pokémon Company via PokéBeachPersonally, I’ll be chasing this Kangaskhan card, where it’s showing kindness to a nearby Quagsire.Image: Mékayu/Creatures Inc., The Pokémon Company via PokéBeachDestined Rivals combines two Japanese sets: The Glory of Team Rocket and Hot Wind Arena, the latter which focuses on trainers like Cynthia, Ethan, Misty, and Arven. Unfortunately, Pokémon cards are still not easy to get for MSRP, so you may have to visit your local stores early in the morning on May 30 if you want a chance to crack any of these cards from packs. (But pro-tip in this horrendous Pokémon card economy? You should just buy singles from your local card shop!)You can see the rest of the illustration rares and ultra rares from The Glory of Team Rocket set below.1/25Image: NC Empire/Creatures Inc., The Pokémon Company via PokéBeachSee More:0 Reacties 0 aandelen 79 Views

WWW.POLYGON.COMAll the ways you should prep to pre-order a Nintendo Switch 2Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders are officially opening in the U.S. on April 24. This news comes after the original plan to open pre-orders on April 9 was delayed due to the “potential impact of tariffs.” Thankfully, the console isn’t increasing in price from what was originally announced — $449.99 for the console, with a $499.99 version that includes Mario Kart World. However, many of its optional accessories will cost you more (but not much more). While I wish to exist in a world where one could easily click “buy” once pre-orders open and be guaranteed a Switch 2 come the June 5 release date, it’s not so simple in reality. Thousands of people are going to be showing up simultaneously, putting a strain on both servers and allocated pre-order stock. In other words, it might take some luck to score a pre-order reservation, even though the likes of Walmart and Target are kicking off pre-orders at midnight on April 24. That said, there are ways you can prepare yourself for April 24 in the hopes of boosting your chance of success, starting with making accounts at all of the major retailers. If you’re a longtime Nintendo Switch player, you might be eligible to skip the usual online retailer rush with the tips below. How to reserve a Switch 2 pre-order at Nintendo Starting with Nintendo, the company is accepting sign-ups for those hoping to reserve a Switch 2, but there are multiple requirements in place, likely to quash the number of consoles resellers can get their hands on. To express interest in pre-ordering a Switch 2 from Nintendo, you must have already done the following by April 2: Buy at least 12 months worth of a Nintendo Switch Online membership Have at least 50 gameplay hours logged to your Nintendo account Opt in to share gameplay data in your Nintendo account’s privacy settings Only if you meet that criteria can you submit the form to express interest in reserving. That said, there’s no guarantee that you’ll be chosen to receive an invite. But if you are chosen, you’ll get an email from Nintendo on or after May 8 to purchase either the $449.99 model, or the $499.99 model that includes Mario Kart World. If you receive an invitation, you’ll have 72 hours to follow through with a purchase. It’s possible that general pre-orders will be available at Nintendo starting April 24, but this opportunity is just for Switch Online subscribers. How to pre-order a Switch 2 at Best Buy Whether you qualify for Nintendo’s strict pre-order process or not, it’s a good idea to sign up for email notifications at Best Buy through this page. Doing so will ensure that you get an email with a specific pre-order time for the Switch 2. Additionally, it’ll loop you into a newsletter that’s only about the Switch 2, its games, and related content (you won’t receive other Best Buy newsletters). It’s worth mentioning as well that you’ll need to have a Best Buy account to buy a Switch 2 there, so be sure to create one ahead of time. How to pre-order Switch 2 at GameStop GameStop has a product page up for the Switch 2, and you’ll want to enter your email address to receive communications about the specific pre-order details. Pre-orders will be available when stores open on April 24 and online at 11 a.m. EDT, according to a GameStop spokesperson. Additionally, if you plan to pre-order at GameStop, you should know that it will be running a promotion that lets customers get up to $175 trade-in credit for their Switch consoles when reserving a Switch 2. The amount of trade-in credit you’ll get depends on the model you’re trading in, as well as its condition and whether you have all of the components. How to pre-order a Switch 2 at Walmart Walmart will begin its pre-orders online at 12 a.m. EDT on April 24. It shared that orders placed before June 4 at 8 a.m. local time will be eligible for free delivery of the console by 9 a.m. local time on launch day. How to pre-order a Switch 2 at Target Like Walmart, Target will accept online pre-orders for the Switch 2 starting at 12 a.m. EDT on April 24. Update (April 18): Walmart, Target, and GameStop confirmed their respective start times for accepting pre-orders for the Switch 2, and you’ll find them in this post. We’ll add more as we receive confirmation from other retailers.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 59 Views

LIFEHACKER.COMFive Ways to Keep Your Neighbors From Looking Down Into Your YardWe may earn a commission from links on this page.We like to think that our home is also our fortress of privacy: Once you walk through your front door, you’re free from prying eyes (or lenses) and can relax. There are a ton of ways to ensure your privacy inside, starting with items like window films, shades, and curtains. And if you want to protect your outdoor space from neighbors peering over the fence, you have several easy options. Most of those options, however, assume your neighbors are on the same level as you. If the neighboring homes are located above yours, you’ll need to re-think your privacy plan. This is especially true if your neighbors have outdoor areas that offer a perfect view of your backyard. If you get the sense you’re being watched every time you step outside your house, here are a few ways you can regain some privacy. Plant treesThe simplest long-term option is to plant trees—specifically canopy trees, whose branches stretch out and form a living roof over the area below. You’ll want to consult with an arborist or other landscaping professional to identify canopy trees that will thrive in your region and climate. You’ll also want to get some advice on spacing out the trees so you eventually get the lush, thick “roof” effect that will offer the privacy you’re looking for (not to mention cool down the space and block out the sun’s damaging rays).Note the word “eventually,” however: Trees don’t just pop up in a matter of days. Maple trees, for example, are excellent canopy trees, but can take several decades to reach their full height and size. But if you’re going to be in the house (and using the yard) for a long time to come, investing in canopy trees will solve your problem and beautify the space.Install shade sailsA shade sail is typically a large triangular or rectangular sheet of fabric that you attach to posts or existing structures in your yard (such as a fence). They let air and rain through, but block out the sun, creating shade wherever you want it. That means they can be used for vertical privacy, too—one or more shade sails installed in your yard will block someone’s view of your yard from above.Shade sails are relatively affordable and easily installed. You can buy a shade sail kit that comes with everything you need, but it’s easy to DIY by sinking a few posts or attaching some hooks to your fence or exterior walls. They can also be quickly removed if your circumstances change.Add a covered patioIf you have a defined patio or deck space where you spend most of your time being observed by your neighbors (or imagining you are), you can cover it pretty easily using several options:A freestanding pergola or a pergola attached to the house, combined with some outdoor curtainsA gazebo with a canopy is a less-permanent choice that can also afford you a ton of privacy, at least in that specific area of your yard.A pop-up canopy tent is a quick, cheap, and temporary solution.Build a pergola by the fence lineSpeaking of pergolas, if your neighbor’s house looms over your yard, you can enhance your privacy by building a pergola near your fence line where their house is located. The angle will work in your favor; even a modest pergola can block much of your neighbor’s view if they’re not looking straight down into your yard. And if you have multiple neighbors up there, you can add a strong of pergolas along the fence line to block the angle everywhere. You’ll have to check local regulations (or your homeowners association) before building. Some areas will require a pergola to be a set distance from a boundary fence (e.g., 16 feet), while others might have a calculation based on the size of the property and the height of your fence. Invest in tall fencingFinally, privacy fencing isn’t your best option for elevated neighbors, but if it is your only option for some reason, go big and install an extremely tall privacy fence. You’ll need to check local regulations to see if there are legal limits to how tall your fencing can be and then build or buy a fence at the maximum height (you can buy pre-made 12-foot and even 16-foot tall privacy fencing, though you’ll likely pay a steep price). As with pergolas near the perimeter, a tall enough fence can block your neighbors’ viewing angle. Another option is to grow a “living fence” using hedges or other plants (such as nigra arborvitae, which can reach 30 feet in height). You’ll have to wait for your plants to mature, but this can be a prettier option than a looming fence.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 57 Views

WWW.ENGADGET.COMCelebrate the 35th anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope with a gigantic tower of gas and dustAs part of their ongoing celebration of the Hubble Space Telescope's 35th anniversary, NASA and ESA have shared a new image of the Eagle Nebula, specifically a "spire of cosmic gas and dust" that's in a region last captured by the telescope two decades ago. The tower in the image is 9.5 light years tall, according to NASA and ESA, and only a portion of the larger Eagle Nebula, which is considered a "nursery" for young stars. The tower's unique mix of oranges and dark blues is thanks to a combination of swirling hydrogen gas and space dust. The nebula's "Eagle" name comes from how it looks when you pan across it, where edge clouds like the one in the image look like the wings of a giant bird of prey. ESA/Hubble & NASA, K. Noll As of late, the James Webb Space Telescope has become the designated source for spectacular images of space, but clearly Hubble still has some juice in it, too. Some of that is thanks to "new data processing techniques" that are being applied to the images captured by the telescope. The Eagle Nebula is just one of several celestial targets Hubble is revisiting for its 35th anniversary. By capturing different angles and using data differently, the telescope is able to produce more spectacularly colored images. There's no major discoveries made with these "reruns," but they are, without a doubt, even cooler than before.
