WWW.VIDEOGAMER.COMMarvel Rivals dev reveals massive buffs and nerfs coming next weekYou can trust VideoGamer. Our team of gaming experts spend hours testing and reviewing the latest games, to ensure you're reading the most comprehensive guide possible. Rest assured, all imagery and advice is unique and original. Check out how we test and review games here The meta will change once again in Marvel Rivals, as its developer announced several buffs and nerfs coming soon. Season 2 has been out for two weeks, yet many players are unhappy with the dive meta. On top of that, the community believes that the performance-based ranking system is not exactly fair, which is why NetEase will address all of these issues. The next week’s update will bring changes to at least five heroes. Furthermore, the game developer will buff a couple of Strategists, increasing their effectiveness on the battlefield. The upcoming Marvel Rivals update will bring several buffs and nerfs Captain America, who’s currently the hero with the sixth-highest win rate in Marvel Rivals Season 2, will be nerfed with the next update. NetEase revealed that his survivability will be nerfed, which is also the case with Groot, another popular Vanguard. Furthermore, the range of Spider-Man’s Amazing Combo (uppercut) will be decreased. On a positive note, Winter Soldier and Doctor Strange will both get buffed. Interestingly, NetEase nerfed these two characters with the release of Season 2, so the upcoming update should make them more effective. Doctor Strange and Winter Soldier will benefit from the new Marvel Rivals buffs. Image by VideoGamer The Vanguard will require less energy for his ultimate, Eye of Agamotto. Considering that this is one of the best ultimate abilities in Marvel Rivals, this will be a significant buff for the hero. Winter Soldier, on the other hand, will get two buffs. One will improve his Tainted Voltage (E) ability, while the other will buff his Team-Up with Captain America. Finally, the upcoming Marvel Rivals update will bring buffs for several Strategists. NetEase hasn’t revealed details yet, but we do know that the patch will “enhance the damage capabilities of certain Strategists to elevate their threat levels.” The release date of the update hasn’t been revealed yet, but we expect it to come out on Thursday, May 1. GIZMODO.COMThe Rewiring of Social Security Admin With AI Has Begun, the Training Video Is Not PromisingIn recent months, Elon Musk’s DOGE has attempted to hollow out America’s federal bureaucracy. After firing droves of workers and attempting to downsize prominent agencies, the billionaire-backed effort is attempting to create a new governance model that prioritizes automation. On Friday, Wired reported that, in a flailing attempt to modernize the agency, a new ChatGPT-style bot was integrated into agency staffers’ workflows. The Agency Support Companion is supposed to “assist employees with everyday tasks and enhance productivity,” an internal email viewed by the magazine reads. However, the chatbot does not seem to work very well. “Honestly, no one has really been talking about it at all,” a source who works at the agency told Wired. The app’s launch was reportedly accompanied by a hilariously terrible training video (seen here) that involved a poorly animated, four-fingered woman. The video, which was supposed to explain to staffers how to use the app, neglected to tell them a very critical piece of information: that they should refrain from uploading sensitive personal information to the program. This oversight forced the agency to send out an apologetic email to staffers that highlighted the missing context: “Our apologies for the oversight in our training video,” it read. “I’m not sure most of my coworkers even watched the training video,” the SSA source told Wired. “I played around with the chatbot a bit, and several of the responses I received from it were incredibly vague and/or inaccurate.” They added: “You could hear my coworkers making fun of the graphics. Nobody I know is [using it]. It’s so clumsy and bad.” If Musk’s plan is to automate the SSA, there is plenty of evidence (aside from the terrible new app) that suggests it’s a bad idea. Indeed, a similar attempt at automating social services in Brazil shows why over-reliance on algorithms to operate welfare programs may result in worse outcomes for everybody. Rest of the World reports that an attempt by the Brazilian government to reduce bureaucracy by replacing officials with algorithms hasn’t always produced the best results. Brazil has an app, Meu INSS, that was developed by a state-owned company, Dataprev, and is designed to handle social security claims. The app, which was launched in 2018, uses computer vision and natural language processing to analyze documents submitted to the government by claimants. Unfortunately, the app has a habit of rejecting legitimate claims based on minor errors. Those automated decisions can kick off lengthy legal battles that take many months to resolve. The outlet documents the experience of one former sugarcane worker, 55-year-old Josélia de Brito, who filed for her retirement benefits through the app but was mistaken for a man by the automated system and had her benefits denied. “I have all the documents proving my health condition, proving everything, and [the benefit] still gets denied. It’s a humiliation,” De Brito told the outlet. The nation’s rural farmworkers have struggled with the increasingly digital face of social services, the outlet notes. “People out here cannot [even] work with Gmail, Facebook, Instagram,” Francisco Santana, president of the Union for Rural Workers at Barra do Corda, told Rest of World. “Processes are [getting] more and more automated, and society wasn’t made ready for it, especially further away, in the outskirts, for people that live in rural areas.” Other nations’ struggles with automation are a potential warning for the U.S., whose social services are currently being “modernized” by technocratic minions deployed by the Trump administration. Musk’s DOGE has attempted to gut agencies across the federal bureaucracy, including the SSA. In place of full staff, DOGE has sought to institute an “AI-first” strategy that would cut the federal workforce in half and replace human workers with software. “Everything that can be machine-automated will be. And the technocrats will replace the bureaucrats,” a person knowledgeable about DOGE’s activities recently told the Washington Post. Far from resulting in greater efficiency, however, DOGE’s changes have so far helped to spur dysfunction and chaos at many agencies, including Social Security. Indeed, a recent incident at the SSA, in which DOGE workers reportedly marked “countless” living benefit recipients as “dead” and cut off their benefits, is just one example. “[DOGE staffers] went into the system and they killed off people,” Rennie Glasgow, a longtime claims technical analyst at the agency, told The Daily Beast. “About 4 million people, they marked them as dead. But they’re not sure if those people were supposed to be marked as dead, so they’re sending us an email saying, ‘If these people come into the office with their identification, you can reinstate them,’” Glasgow told the outlet. “We have to go through this long process to resurrect them, to get them back as alive, which can take about three to four days,” Glasgow added. DOGE also recently announced that it would attempt to rewrite the entirety of the SSA’s codebase in a matter of months. Sources have suggested that, at the breakneck speed at which they plan to work, DOGE would almost certainly have to rely on AI to do this. While writing code with AI has become a more common practice, it’s also one that needs heavy supervision due to the degree to which the software makes mistakes. Given how many mistakes that DOGE’s human operators have made during their blitzkrieg of the government, it stands to reason that an automated rewrite of the SSA’s codebase could be a disaster. Of course, some speculate that making mistakes is the point. Those critics believe DOGE isn’t attempting to “modernize” or improve the SSA at all, but is actually attempting to destabilize and destroy the agency so that it can be privatized. If that’s the case, then everything is going to plan.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 15 Views

TECHCRUNCH.COMGoogle will stop supporting early Nest thermostats on October 25In Brief Posted: 12:01 PM PDT · April 26, 2025 Image Credits:Matthias Balk/picture alliance / Getty Images Google will stop supporting early Nest thermostats on October 25 Google announced this week that beginning on October 25, it will no longer support or release software updates for the first and second generation Nest Learning Thermostats. And it will completely stop launching new Nest products in Europe. That means owners of the Nest thermostats released in 2011 and 2012 (as well as the version released in Europe in 2014) won’t receive updates, and their devices will no longer be supported in the Nest and Home apps. They will, however, be able to adjust temperature and schedules directly on their devices. “To fully invest in [future] advancements and bring you the most cutting-edge features on our latest generation of Nest thermostats, we will be transitioning away from supporting three of our oldest devices, each over a decade old,” Google said. As for why it will no longer launch Nest thermostats in Europe, the company added, “Heating systems in Europe are unique and have a variety of hardware and software requirements that make it challenging to build for the diverse set of homes.” Existing Nest devices will still be sold in Europe while supplies last. World's largest zipper maker YKK shows off self-fastening zippers powered by motors and remote controlsWTF?! Most people probably use zippers every day, but the technology behind them has remained fundamentally the same for decades. The world's largest zipper manufacturer aims to change that with motorized zippers that fasten and unfasten themselves. If the idea gains traction, it will initially emerge in enterprise settings. Japanese manufacturer YKK recently announced successful testing results for a prototype automatic zipper. The company suggests that it could help people fasten objects in difficult-to-reach areas. The self-propelled zipper contains a motor and gears that users control with a wired remote. Two experiments demonstrated how it can help industrial workers connect fabrics and other materials in situations that might otherwise introduce unnecessary risk. One video shows the zipper fastening two pieces of cloth together, moving upward to a height of 5 meters (around 15 feet) – otherwise unreachable without a ladder or scaffolding. The device gets to the top in about 40 seconds. A second clip shows a person struggling to zip two pieces of a tent together because the top rises to about 2.5 meters (8.2 feet), and the tent is 4 meters (31.1 feet) wide. Conversely, the automatic zipper connects the tent in about 50 seconds. It remains unclear when or if an automatic zipper would reach consumer markets like clothing. YKK's prototype is several inches long and draws power from a large wired controller, so the technology must be miniaturized. Furthermore, the company likely positioned the product toward industrial settings first because a consumer-facing version would require additional safety measures. Still, a zipper that users can open and shut without needing two hands might be useful for people with disabilities. // Related Stories Although YKK isn't a widely discussed company, most people probably wear their products daily. Those who examine the backs of zippers on pants or jackets will likely find YKK's logo on most of them. The company's fasteners also frequently appear on luggage, sportswear, protective gear, vehicle interiors, etc. Additionally, YKK manufactures other tech and frequently experiments with new types of fasteners. A video from March shows a magnetic clasp to replace those typically found on dress pants. Another clip from last year demonstrates a magnetic zipper with two halves that clasp together but can be easily pulled open when partially or fully zipped. Videos for buttons and other unique accessories are also available on YKK's YouTube channel.0 Reacties 0 aandelen 27 Views

Recommended Videos Marvel Studios / Marvel Studios This Marvel Cinematic Universe film will show Bucky Barnes, Yelena Belova, and several other former Marvel villains teaming up to save the world from the superpowered Sentry after a black ops mission gone wrong. Related Though Marvel movies have been a hit-or-miss lately, Thunderbolts* has been marketed as a dark and unique crossover centered around Earth’s Unlikeliest Heroes. Overall, it seems like this superhero movie may break the mold on several fronts and give the MCU the shot in the arm it needs as it continues to build up to Avengers: Doomsday. Paramount Pictures / Paramount Pictures This massive spy film will conclude the story set in motion in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning and quite possibly the story of Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise). As Ethan and his team continue their quest to find and destroy the AI “Entity,” The Final Reckoning While the franchise’s previous movie underperformed in theaters, Mission: Impossible remains one of the most popular movie franchises in the world, meaning countless audiences will surely choose to accept a ticket for its latest entry. Lionsgate / Lionsgate After the massive high that John Wick: Chapter 4 left the franchise on, this spinoff will continue to expand its world by following a new assassin (Ana de Armas) seeking vengeance for her father’s death. Though Keanu Reeves won’t be leading this spinoff film, Ana de Armas has proven herself capable of leading this big-budget blockbuster.Ballerina should continue to deliver the franchise’s brand of meticulous, blood-pumping action and jaw-dropping imagery that has made it such a modern action juggernaut. Neon / Neon Based on the novella by Stephen King, The Life of Chuck depicts the emotional life of Charles Krantz (Tom Hiddleston), culminating in the appearance of a mysterious billboard congratulating him on his 39 years of life. Since The Life of Chuck is a King adaptation, it goes without saying that the film has garnered much attention. The film received massive praise following its premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, where it won the TIFF People’s Choice Award. Though director Mike Flanagan has broken from his traditional brand of horror seen in classics like Doctor Sleep and The Haunting of Hill House, he has reportedly delivered one of the best Stephen King adaptations yet. Also, the film’s distributor, Neon, has become extremely popular in recent years due to hits like Longlegs, Immaculate, Anora, and Parasite, meaning the film has received an extra dose of hype from audiences. Pixar / Pixar Once again, Disney and Pixar venture into the final frontier together, only this time, it will follow a young boy (Yonas Kibreab) as he gets abducted by aliens who mistake him for the ambassador of Earth and ends up navigating the weird and wonderful Communiverse. Since it is Pixar’s first time exploring the world of intelligent aliens, Elio has already teased a vibrant and imaginative story in its trailers, showcasing the studio at its most creative. After Pixar broke box office records with Inside Out 2, this animation giant seems ready to wow audiences again with this brand-new adventure. Sony Pictures Entertainment / Sony Pictures Entertainment Over 20 years after they resurrected the zombie franchise with 28 Days Later, director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland have returned with this long-awaited threequel. 28 Years Later The film’s haunting trailer has hyped up this sequel to be a dark, sprawling, and action-packed zombie epic, giving audiences more reasons to get excited about this movie. Universal Pictures / Universal Pictures Directed by Gareth Edwards (The Creator), Jurassic World Rebirth depicts an expedition into an old Jurassic Park lab site to recover some dino DNA, where several mutated dinosaurs threaten those who dare to set foot on their island. It seemed like the Jurassic World franchise had run out of steam with its third film, but given its massive popularity, it was all but guaranteed that people would line up for a sequel. Nevertheless, Jurassic World Rebirth seems like it could present a fresh but familiar adventure to audiences, thanks to a new set of stars and some monstrous new dinosaurs. Superman will introduce DC’s next Man of Steel as he struggles to battle Lex Luthor and countless other threats to the people of Earth. Superman is one of the most popular and influential characters in all of fiction, so many eyes have been locked on this new interpretation of the character. The trailers for the film have presented a lot for fans of Richard Donner and Zack Snyder’s Superman films, although the haters have been desperate to find excuses to rip on this film before it’s even released. A lot hinges on Superman’s success, as it could make or break the new DC Universe. However, director James Gunn has proven himself a master of making superhero movies many times in the past, making this film the most highly anticipated film of the summer. Marvel Studios / Marvel Studios The Marvel Cinematic Universe will finally introduce its new version of the Fantastic Four with this cosmic epic. Taking place outside the Sacred Timeline, The Fantastic Four: First Steps will follow Marvel’s First Family as they try to protect their version of Earth from being devoured by Galactus. Director Matt Shakman has already developed enough prestige in the Marvel community by directing every episode of the hit Disney+ show WandaVision. Since the film promises to introduce iconic characters like Galactus, the Silver Surfer, and Doctor Doom, the latter of whom will be the MCU’s next big bad, this blockbuster is gearing up to be Marvel’s most thrilling film yet. Paramount Pictures / Paramount Pictures Actor Liam Neeson takes the mantle of Detective Frank Drebin (Junior) as the new face of the Naked Gun franchise. Given the original Naked Gun’s illustrious legacy, this reboot has a lot to live up to in 2025. However, the film is in good hands with director Akiva Schaffer (The Lonely Island) and producer Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy). Editors’ Recommendations0 Reacties 0 aandelen 26 Views

ARSTECHNICA.COMNetflix introduces a new kind of subtitles for the non-hearing impairedWait, what did they say? Netflix introduces a new kind of subtitles for the non-hearing impaired Just the dialogue—no sound effects or music cues. Samuel Axon – Apr 25, 2025 4:48 pm | 129 Netflix programming is getting a new kind of subtitles. Credit: Netflix Netflix programming is getting a new kind of subtitles. Credit: Netflix Story text Size Small Standard Large Width * Standard Wide Links Standard Orange * Subscribers only Learn more Multiple studies and investigations have found that about half of American households watch TV and movies with subtitles on, but only a relatively small portion of those include someone with a hearing disability. That's because of the trouble many people have understanding dialogue in modern viewing situations, and Netflix has now introduced a subtitles option to help. The closed captioning we've all been using for years includes not only the words the people on-screen are saying, but additional information needed by the hard of hearing, including character names, music cues ("dramatic music intensifies") and sound effects ("loud explosion"). For those who just wanted to make sure they didn't miss a word here and there, the frequent descriptions of sound effects and music could be distracting. This new format omits those extras, just including the spoken words and nothing else—even in the same language as the spoken dialogue. The feature will be available in new Netflix original programming, starting with the new season of You in multiple languages. Netflix says it's looking at bringing the option to older titles in the library (including those not produced by Netflix) in the future. Traditional closed captions are still available, of course. Those are labeled "English CC" whereas this new option is simply labeled "English" (or whatever your preferred language is). This is just the latest answer to a long-standing problem. Streamers and device makers have been including speech or dialogue boost audio modes to help users better understand dialogue, too. There's no single reason this is now a problem that needs solving—rather, it's a confluence of things. The performance style of actors in current TV shows and movies is more naturalistic and less elocutive than it once was, so characters are more likely to speak softly. Streaming services compress the audio more vigorously than is common in physical media, which can cause problems with intelligibility. The range of home audio hardware is far wider than ever before, so engineers and editors mastering shows and films face the near-impossible task of providing strong dynamic range and quality for those with high-end systems, but still making it sound good on cheap TV speakers. It's a relatively new problem, and everyone from hardware makers to audio engineers is seeking the ideal solution. Netflix's new subtitles don't really fix it, of course, but they make the viewing experience a little nicer for the millions of people who've resorted to reading subtitles all the time.
