Google’s Pichai Says US Fix Is ‘De Facto’ Spinoff of Search
Alphabet Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai told a judge who found that Google illegally monopolizes online search that a Justice Department proposal to share search data with rivals would be a “de facto” divestiture of the company's search engine. If Google were required to share both its search data and the information on how it ranks results, rivals could reverse-engineer “every aspect of our technology,” Pichai testified on Wednesday.“The proposal on data sharing is so far-reaching, so extraordinary,” Pichai said. It “feels like de facto divestiture of search” and its entire intellectual property and technology over 25 years of research, he said.During testimony in federal court in Washington, Pichai asserted that a package of antitrust remedies proposed by the government is too extreme and will undermine Google's ability to compete in the market. The combination of remedies would “make it unviable to continue to invest in” research and development, he said. “It will have many unintended consequences.”‘Definitely a Slowdown'Pichai said the Justice Department's proposal is much broader than the recent European gatekeeper law, the Digital Markets Act, that requires Google to share some data with rival search engines. That law is “significantly narrower,” he said, but has caused the company to delay introducing some innovations in the EU. “There's definitely a slowdown on when we are able to launch features in Europe,” he said.Pichai was called to testify as part of a three-week trial aimed at determining how Google should restore competition to online search after US District Judge Amit Mehta ruled last year that the tech giant had illegally maintained a monopoly in the market. The Justice Department wrapped up its case on Tuesday afternoon and the company is now presenting its evidence and testimony. The government wants Google to divest itself of its Chrome browser, license some search data to competitors and stop paying for exclusive positions on other apps and devices. It has also asked that Mehta extend the ban to Google's AI products, including its AI assistant Gemini, which the government says were aided by the company's illegal monopoly in search.Google has countered that the government's proposal would hurt American consumers and the economy, and weaken US technological leadership.Pichai also pushed back on another aspect of the government's proposed remedy that would bar the company from paying smartphone makers or browsers for default placement. Those payments help browsers like Mozilla and smartphone makers support the Android ecosystem, he said.“If Google is able to continue to pay for defaults, how could any other competitor possibly pay as much as Google is able to pay?” Mehta asked.Pichai said both Microsoft and OpenAI have been able to outcompete Google on some deals with publishers for content to be used in AI systems. OpenAI also won a deal with Apple to offer its ChatGPT technology on the iPhone, he said, though Google hopes to sign a deal to offer its own AI chatbot on the iPhone this year.Third Time TestifyingPichai is testifying for the third time in as many years, as Google's long-running antitrust cases have wound their way through the courts. In late 2023, over two short weeks, the tech executive had to pivot from Mehta's courtroom in Washington, defending Google in the first phase of the Justice Department's search monopoly case, to another in San Francisco where a judge heard accusations by Fortnite maker Epic Games that Google Play had illegally maintained dominance in the mobile-app marketplace. In both those cases, plus a third where Pichai didn't testify — concerning Google's dominance of online advertising technology markets — Google was found to have engaged in anticompetitive behavior. That shows the unprecedented antitrust scrutiny the tech company has faced in recent years in the US over its power to control key aspects of the online world.Pichai, 52, has spent the majority of his career at Google, starting as a product manager in 2004 and rising through the ranks to become CEO of the company in 2015. He has held several roles, including helping to engineer the company's Android strategy and playing a key role in the development of Chrome.Lawyer Pushes PichaiDuring cross-examination, DOJ lawyer Veronica Onyema pushed Pichai on the idea that there was no way at present to know who an eventual buyer for the Chrome browser would be — and thus that Pichai wouldn't be able to speak to the internal security measures the buyer could put into place. Pichai said his intimate knowledge of Chrome and its security qualified him to give his opinion.“I personally built the underpinnings of Chrome, along with the security team,” he responded.Under questioning, he acknowledged that no company is perfect at addressing privacy concerns and that it would be impossible for Google to address cybersecurity issues on its own.As was the case during his first appearance in federal court for the initial phase of the Justice Department's search monopoly case, Pichai was dressed in a dark suit and decided to stand instead of sit as he gave testimony. He was Google's second witness, after the company's lawyers called on Google employee Heather Adkins, a cybersecurity expert, on Tuesday afternoon. Adkins testified that Google's commitment to security made it a good steward of Chrome, as she described ways that the company worked to thwart bad actors' malicious attacks targeting the browser.Mehta has said he wants to deliver a decision on how to remedy the harm caused by Google's dominance by August. But whatever he decides, there will likely be a years-long wait for any changes to take effect at Google. After the remedy hearing, the company is expected to appeal and potentially take the case to the US Supreme Court.(This story has not been edited by NDTV staff and is auto-generated from a syndicated feed.) AI strategies for cybersecurity press releases that get coverage
If you’ve ever tried to get your cybersecurity news picked up by media outlets, you’ll know just how much of a challenge (and how disheartening) it can be. You pour hours into what you think is an excellent announcement about your new security tool, threat research, or vulnerability discovery, only to watch it disappear into journalists’ overflowing inboxes without a trace. The cyber PR space is brutally competitive. Reporters at top publications receive tens, if not hundreds, of pitches each day, and they have no choice but to be highly selective about which releases they choose to cover and which to discard. Your challenge then isn’t just creating a good press release, it’s making one that grabs attention and stands out in an industry drowning in technical jargon and “revolutionary” solutions. Why most cybersecurity press releases fall flat Let’s first look at some of the main reasons why many cyber press releases fail: They’re too complex from the start, losing non-technical reporters They bury the actual news under corporate marketing speak. They focus on product features rather than the real-world impact or problems they solve. They lack credible data or specific research findings that journalists can cite as support. Most of these problems have one main theme: Journalists aren’t interested in promoting your product or your business. They are looking after their interests and seeking newsworthy stories their audiences care about. Keep this in mind and make their job easier by showing them exactly why your announcement matters. Learning how to write a cybersecurity press release What does a well-written press release look like? Alongside the reasons listed above, many companies make the mistake of submitting poorly formatted releases that journalists will be unlikely to spend time reading. It’s worth learning how to write a cybersecurity press release properly, including the preferred structure (headline, subheader, opening paragraph, boilerplate, etc). And, be sure to review some examples of high-quality press releases as well. AI strategies that transform your press release process Let’s examine how AI tools can significantly enhance your cyber PR at every stage. 1. Research Enhancement Use AI tools to track media coverage patterns and identify emerging trends in cybersecurity news. You can analyse which types of security stories gain traction, and this can help you position your announcement in that context. Another idea is to use LLMs (like Google’s Gemini or OpenAI’s ChatGPT) to analyse hundreds of successful cybersecurity press releases in a niche similar to yours. Ask it to identify common elements in those that generated significant coverage, and then use these same features in your cyber PR efforts. To take this a step further, AI-powered sentiment analysis can help you understand how different audience segments receive specific cybersecurity topics. The intelligence can help you tailor your messaging to address current concerns and capitalise on positive industry momentum. 2. Writing assistance If you struggle to convey complex ideas and terminology in more accessible language, consider asking the LLM to help simplify your messaging. This can help transform technical specifications into clear, accessible language that non-technical journalists can understand. Since the headline is the most important part of your release, use an LLM to generate a handful of options based on your core announcement, then select the best one based on clarity and impact. Once your press release is complete, run it through an LLM to identify and replace jargon that might be second nature to your security team but may be confusing to general tech reporters. 3. Visual storytelling If you are struggling to find ways to explain your product or service in accessible language, visuals can help. AI image generation tools, like Midjourney, create custom visuals based on prompts that help illustrate your message. The latest models can handle highly complex tasks. With a bit of prompt engineering (and by incorporating the press release you want help with), you should be able to create accompanying images and infographics that bring your message to life. 4. Video content Going one step further than a static image, a brief AI-generated explainer video can sit alongside your press release, providing journalists with ready-to-use content that explains complex security concepts. Some ideas include: Short Explainer Videos: Use text-to-video tools to turn essential sections of your press release into a brief (60 seconds or less) animated or stock-footage-based video. You can usually use narration and text overlays directly on the AI platforms as well. AI Avatar Summaries: Several tools now enable you to create a brief video featuring an AI avatar that presents the core message of the press release. A human-looking avatar reads out the content and delivers an audio and video component for your release. Data Visualisation Videos: Use AI tools to animate key statistics or processes described in the release for enhanced clarity. Final word Even as you use the AI tools you have at your disposal, remember that the most effective cybersecurity press releases still require that all-important human insight and expertise. Your goal isn’t to automate the entire process. Instead, use AI to enhance your cyber PR efforts and make your releases stand out from the crowd. AI should help emphasise, not replace, the human elements that make security stories so engaging and compelling. Be sure to shine a spotlight on the researchers who made the discovery, the real-world implications of any threat vulnerabilities you uncover, and the people security measures ultimately protect. Combine this human-focused storytelling with the power of AI automation, and you’ll ensure that your press releases and cyber PR campaigns get the maximum mileage.

Shovel Knight Dig Launches for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One on May 15
News Shovel Knight Dig Launches for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One on May 15 The Wicked Wish expansion, which will add new content for free, will also launch for new and existing platforms on the same day. Posted By Shubhankar Parijat | On 01st, May. 2025 Yacht Club Games announced in June last year that Shovel Knight Dig would be headed to PlayStation and Xbox at some point, though at the time, a release date wasn’t announced, while there have also been no further updates since then. Now, however, a specific release date has been revealed- and it’s not too far away.  Yacht Club Games has announced that Shovel Knight Dig will launch for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One in a couple weeks’ time, on May 15. Why a PS4 version isn’t on the docket is a mystery, especially with the game set to release for Xbox One.  Meanwhile, on the same day, Yacht Club Games will also release Wicked Wish, the game’s second major free update, which will add new Relics, bosses, localization improvements, bug fixes, and more.  In our review of Shovel Knight Dig, we awarded it a score of 9/10, saying, “Shovel Knight Dig, while far from being the furthest departure from the franchise’s classic gameplay, still manages to be a unique experience thanks to the unique twist of having to use a platforming move set to make progress by traversing vertical space. The Shovel Knight gameplay is still as crisp as ever, and Shovel Knight Dig’s story and progression systems do a great job of staying out of the way, and ultimately encouraging you to try one more run.” Read the full review through here. Easily twice as long as it should have been and it didn't help that despite the levels looking different, they all kinda felt the same. Same with Alien Isolation. It was great until it wasn't. They built up all that tension only to keep doing the same trick over and over until its hold on you was completely gone. Should have been 5-10 hours shorter. Metaphor is a more recent example, it built up to a climax and then kept going for 15 hours too long. /edit: I saw the Mario & Luigi games mentioned. Great examples too. Dream Team was almost a 50 hour game for fuck's sake. Brothership too. That's a much better game than DT ever was and actually had a great endgame, but the pacing in that, my God. I hate it when games build towards a clear ending and then say "nope, here's another 15 hours". TLOU2 was awful in that regard, couldn't wait for that shit to end and it just kept going. To be clear I think games should be as long as they need to be, but most simply don't need to be. "Less is more" is a lesson that will never be learned I fear.  EvaUnit787 Member Aug 6, 2023 2,834 Valhalla felt a bit too long, but I just played longer in AC Shadows and did not feel as bad. I think there it is down to how much you enjoy the open world and story/progression. I felt Baldur's Gate 3 was a bit too long. The Wait For The Galaxy S25 Edge Could Soon Be Over, With A Leaked Image Teasing Samsung’s “Beyond Slim” Phone And Confirming A May 13 Launch Date
Menu Home News Hardware Gaming Mobile Finance Deals Reviews How To Wccftech Mobile The Wait For The Galaxy S25 Edge Could Soon Be Over, With A Leaked Image Teasing Samsung’s “Beyond Slim” Phone And Confirming A May 13 Launch Date Ezza Ijaz • May 1, 2025 at 02:30am EDT Samsung has been working on its ultra-thin phone for quite some time, and users have been anticipating the Galaxy S25 Edge for its slim form factor and for the device being claimed to be most design-forward. Until now, we have gotten glimpses of the device, but it looks like we finally have a launch window as leaked promotional images now tease the device to be coming out this May 13th in South Korea initially and then followed by a broader rollout. This is because the tech giant generally tests demand in the home market before reaching out to the US and other regions. Samsung's launch date for the Galaxy S25 Edge was revealed in a leaked teaser of an upcoming event, and we might be seeing the device soon Samsung's Galaxy S25 Edge has been in the limelight for quite some time, even before it was released, due to the ultra-thin form factor it would be bringing about, and speculations have been suggested that we might see the device somewhere in April. However, delays led to the date being pushed, and now a teaser for an upcoming event was leaked, giving away the launch window for the phone. According to the latest rumor, the Galaxy S25 Edge might debut on May 13 in South Korea and then be followed by a broader release by the end of the month. We did get an early look at the device during this year's Unpacked event. However, the other details of the slim phone have remained under the hood, and it seems like we might see what Samsung is offering in its S25 Edge model in the coming weeks. This is not the first time we have heard of a May launch window, as speculations have hinted at the device being a couple of weeks away, but the newly leaked image via Evan Blass on X seems to confirm the date for the ultra-thin flagship. The leaked image has "Beyond Slim" written on it since Galaxy S25 Edge is said to be the company's slimmest profile yet. The teaser also includes a disclaimer for the date in Italian, "13 Maggio 2025," which translated in English to May 13, 2025. The teaser also shows a silhouette image of the upcoming phone's ultra-thin design and style. It remains to be seen whether the current leaked promotional image reveals the actual date, but for now, it seems that Samsung's Galaxy S25 Edge might be just around the corner.

EA Abandons One Of The Longest-Running Racing Franchises After 25 Years
Earlier today racing game developer Codemasters announced that it was no longer developing any future dirt rally racing games, ending a 25-year run that started back in 1998. Suggested ReadingThe Top 10 Most Played Games On Steam Deck: February 2024 Edition Share SubtitlesOffEnglishSuggested ReadingThe Top 10 Most Played Games On Steam Deck: February 2024 Edition Share SubtitlesOffEnglishThe Top 10 Most-Played Games On Steam Deck: February 2024 EditionOn April 30, Codemasters—a UK studio that specializes in racing games and was bought by EA in 2021— posted an update on its official website announcing that it would no longer release new updates or expansions for 2023's EA Sports WRC rally racing game. This game acted as a successor to the Dirt series, which itself had connections to the studio’s earlier Colin McRae Rally franchise that started all the way back on the original PlayStation. But the more disappointing news for fans is that Codemasters is done making rally games altogether. As announced in the Wednesday update, Codemasters is “pausing” all current development on future dirt racing rally games, effectively killing the Dirt/Colin McRae rally franchise after two decades and 10+ entries. The last entry in the Dirt franchise,Dirt 5, launched in 2020. Kotaku has reached out to EA for more information. “For now, we are pausing development plans on future rally titles,” explained Codemasters. “Our [World Rally Championship] partnership was a culmination of sorts for our Codemasters journey with off-road racing, spanning decades through titles like Colin McRae Rally, and Dirt. We’ve provided a home for every rally enthusiast, striving tirelessly to push the boundaries and deliver the exhilarating thrill of driving on the ragged edge. We’ve brought together incredibly talented racing developers, worked with some of the sport’s icons, and had the opportunity to share our love of rallying. Thank you to all the fans who have and continue to be part of our rally journey.”The studio promised fans that EA Sports WRC will continue to be “available” to new and existing players, so thankfully it doesn’t sound like the team’s last rally game will be delisted and shut down anytime soon. Still, it’s a shame to see the studio stepping away from rally racing after nearly 30 years of excellent games in a genre that is often ignored by other studios and publishers.Codemasters will continue to develop other racing games, like EA’s yearly F1 series and possibly (hopefully) future entries in the track racer franchise Grid. .

How to maintain control and transparency with in-app bidding
Compared to traditional waterfall instances, in-app bidding can be advantageous. However one concern raised within the context of in-app bidding is the loss of manual tweaks to fill ad requests. Given the automation with in-app bidding, it can raise concerns about losing control and transparency. To help mitigate concerns around moving to in-app bidding, there are tools and services that help you maintain transparency and control. This article looks at three key pillars to addressing those concerns: testing, granular reporting, and understanding your ad experiences.Maintain control through robust testingIn the automated in-app bidding environment, you need to be able to test, learn, and adapt ad strategies to see long-term success. A/B testing gives you greater understanding of your monetization metrics, from average revenue per user (ARPU) to retention. Knowledge is power, and A/B testing is the only way you can truly measure the impact of different in-app bidding strategies. Running an A/B test can give you the answers you need to feel secure in this new landscape.Certain KPIs you can look at to help determine success could be: overall average revenue per daily active user (ARPDAU), ARPU growth, increase in the number of impressions per user, and fewer managed instances. Tracking ARPDAU before and after you implement bidding measures overall revenue, not just performance by network. In addition, A/B testing gives you granular insights into your strategy so that you can continue to optimize and build a dynamic marketplace in this new ecosystem. Unity LevelPlay has a robust A/B testing solution that allows you to test a wide range of variables including bidding vs. traditional waterfalls, mediation groups, new networks, instance pricing, and ad strategy. Among LevelPlay customers who A/B tested integrating the Unity Ads bidder, the test group won in 78% of the cases, and those who applied the changes saw ad ARPDAU increases of up to 7%.Overall, A/B testing brings you peace of mind when transitioning to an in-app bidding world, confirming the switch is right for your app. After switching, a robust A/B testing tool continues to give you control over the bidding environment, allowing you to test and implement new optimizations.Learn more about A/B testing.Gain transparency with deeper reportingHaving transparency into your ad performance can help you make informed changes to accelerate your app’s growth. In-app bidding is an automated setup which will run based on general best practices, so the ability to make real-time, data-informed choices for your app is incredibly valuable, giving you a leg up on competitors.Features such as real-time pivot from LevelPlay provide granular visibility into monetization performance and the ability to make instant changes. Publishers can detect performance changes as they occur, compare revenue over time, and analyze network performance. Trackable KPIs such as eCPM buckets, ad latency, impressions, DAU, DEU, and sessions per DEU can help publishers understand not only ad performance, but user engagement patterns as well. These metrics can be sliced and diced by country, time, ad source, and more to give a deeper level of insight to determine what, if any, changes are needed.“In 2024, Unity LevelPlay remains focused on giving developers more control and transparency through granular analytics that provide actionable data in real time, to help optimize their monetization strategies and maintain user experience to drive higher retention and ARPU,” Omer Adato, Senior Director of Product Management at Unity says.Experience ads as your users doAnother concern raised is that since in-app bidding operates in real time and your ad space can be filled quite quickly without you even knowing, having transparency into the ads being shown in your app is key to ensuring you’re selling ad space to advertisers that won’t disrupt the user experience. After all, seeing a frustrating ad or having a glitchy experience can quickly cause users to churn. However you can gain insight that supports both brand and safety as well as revenue.Gaining oversight of your users' ad experiences supports not only branding and safety, but revenue as well. By blocking troublesome ads initially, you cultivate a healthier ecosystem until networks address issues. Once resolved, lifting blocks on revenue sources restores income while maintaining a quality user experience. Overall, targeted blocking and unblocking empowers monetization through cooperation on ad quality.Ad Quality from LevelPlay is designed to give full transparency into your ad experience. You can access a gallery of all the ads shown in your app, ad analysis, and user journeys. Publishers can also define a set of triggers in Ad Quality, called custom notifications. This feature proactively alerts publishers if a specific creative, advertiser, content rating, or buggy ad appears in your app, so that you can immediately respond to any critical needs. While in-app bidding is running automatically in the background, a feature like Ad Quality gives you much needed transparency into how your ad space is being filled.“Ad Quality helps us ensure that ad content in our apps is appropriate for our audiences. We get notified when titles with high content ratings are displayed, so we know when to reach out to the networks. This visibility is key for us.”-- Stefano Accossato, Head of UA & Ad Monetization at TutoTOONSIn an in-app bidding environment, working with a mediation platform that has the right features to maintain control and transparency over your ad strategy can help make the transition from traditional waterfalls easier and help create a top performing ad strategy.Learn more about Unity LevelPlay and how you can get started with A/B testing, Real time pivot, and Ad Quality.
