In sports, the best offense is often a good defense. It’s not clear if the same applies in nuclear war.
In the face of nuclear threats from adversaries like Russia, China and North Korea, some politicians are clamoring for a system to reliably protect the United States from incoming missiles. That’s the aim of President Donald Trump’s plan for a next-generation missile defense system, dubbed the “Golden Dome.” Trump announced on May 20 that an architecture had been selected and that the system would be operational before the end of his term, at a cost of billion. But some scientists suggest that implementing such a system, as called for by a January executive order, would be daunting.

  • What is US' Stablecoin-Focussed GENIUS Act: Everything to Know

The US is currently prioritising a stablecoin-focused bill as part of its broader effort to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework for the crypto industry. Known as the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for US StablecoinsAct, the proposed legislation seeks to introduce clear guidelines for the issuance and management of stablecoins—cryptocurrencies that are pegged to the value of reserve assets such as fiat currencies or gold. Recently, Senator Elizabeth Warren emphasised the need for stablecoin regulations to prevent private companies from creating their own versions of the US dollar.Earlier this week, the bill was approved by the House Financial Services Committee, advancing it to the House of Senate for the final approval. The crypto industry lauded the development, calling it a milestone moment for the sector's recognition.Paul Atkins, the chief of SEC's Crypto Task Force, has shown a strong support to the GENUIS Bill. Atkins, in an interview with CNBC said, “We have every expectation now that it's going to pass."As momentum builds around the GENIUS Act, let's take a closer look at what this proposed legislation could mean for the future of the stablecoin sector.GENIUS Bill: Key DetailsThe GENIUS bill was first introduced to the US lawmakers in February this year. Tim Scott, the Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, is among the four sponsors of the proposed laws.Outlining the ambitions of this legislations, its sponsors said that the rules would establish clear protocols to guide the issuance of stablecoins in the US. Institutions like Meta that may seek licences to issue stablecoins will have to comply with these mandates. The rules will define reserve requirements for existing and potential stablecoin issuers, while also setting up regimes on the supervision, examination, and enforcement of stablecoin-producing businesses.Large-scale stablecoin issuers offering tokens worth billion or banking firms are proposed to be under a strict oversight by the Federal Reserve. Meanwhile, large-scale non-bank entities will be monitored by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency under, if the bill gets approved into an Act by the Senate. The states may individually get the right to regulate smaller stablecoin issuers internally.According to Senator Bill Hagerty, "The previous administration's hostility toward crypto and refusal to provide clear regulatory guidelines have severely stifled stablecoin innovation." He believes that this legislation can preserves a strong state pathway to stablecoin issuance. The US House Financial Services Committee passed the stablecoin bill in April.Stablecoin HypeThe US is among many nations that are now viewing stablecoin as a blockchain-based solution to quick, secure, and cheap cross-border transfers.Scott, the US Senate Banking Committee chief, sees stablecoins as a major advancement in the financial sector.“Stablecoins enable faster, cheaper, and competitive transactions in our digital world and facilitate seamless cross-border payments,” he said. "From enhancing transaction efficiency to driving demand for US Treasuries, the potential benefits of strong stablecoin innovation are immense."US President Donald Trump himself is part of issuing the USD1 stablecoin, indicating support to the sector's potential. While the stablecoin bill is still making its way through the legislative process in the US, Hong Kong passed its own stablecoin bill on May 21 that is slated to come into effect within this year.Traditional fintech giants like Visa, Mastercard, and PayPal are also exploring service offerings related to stablecoins.Among blockchain majors, Polygon plans to concentrate on its stablecoin plans this year, owing to "rising institutional demands".A recent report by Standard Chartered estimated that the size of the stablecoin market could surge by about 10-fold to trillionwithin the next three years.

  • Embracer is Being Renamed to Fellowship Entertainment, Coffee Stain Group is Being Spun Off

Embracer has announced that it is spinning off Coffee Stain Group – formerly known as Coffee Stain & Friends – into a standalone group of developers and publishers. As a result of this, what remains of Embracer Group, a division formerly known as Middle-Earth & Friends, will be renamed to Fellowship Entertainment. As part of this move, shares in Coffee Stain Group will be distributed to shareholders of Embracer and will go on to be listed on the Nasdaq First North Premier Growth Market in Stockholm. Fellowship’s stocks will continue to be listed on Nasdaq Stockholm. As a result of this move, Coffee Stain Group will take with it 250 employees among its development and publishing divisions. The overall group will include Coffee Stain, Tuxedo Labs, and Ghost Ship, along with some Scandinavia-based studios from Amplifier Game Investment. Some of the IPs under Coffee Stain Group will be Deep Rock Galactic, Goat Simulator, Satisfactory, Teardown, Valheim, and Welcome to Bloxburg. Fellowship Entertainment, on the other hand, will focus on transforming its business into a group that can handle game development and publishing, as well as the development of new IPs that can be spin-off into transmedia properties, including comics, merchandise, and film. Companies under Fellowship Entertainment include 4A Games, Aspyr Media, CrazyLabs, Crystal Dynamics, Dambuster Studios, Dark Horse, Deca Games, Eidos-Montréal, Flying Wild Hog, Gunfire Games, Limited Run Games, Middle-earth Enterprises, Milestone, PLAION, Tarsier Studios, THQ Nordic, Tripwire Interactive, Vertigo Games, and Warhorse Studios. These are among the 40 different companies under Fellowship Entertianment. “We’re really proud of everything we’ve built as part of Embracer, and grateful for the support and trust we’ve received over the years,” wrote Coffee Stain founder and group CEO Anton Westbergh. “Now, as we take the step to become a separately listed company, it feels both exciting and, honestly, a little bit scary—but in a good way.” “The games industry is more competitive than ever, but also more rewarding if you do things right, and we believe this move gives us the clarity and control to navigate the landscape better on our own terms. We can now focus even more on what we do best—supporting our developers, staying close to our communities, and building an even brighter future for Coffee Stain.” Embracer co-founder and group CEO Lars Wingefors also had a statement where he praised the talent, IPs and communities under Coffee Stain Group. The decision to split the company off was seemingly made because of Westbergh’s strategies and leadership for the long-term health and success of the company. “Coffee Stain Group has incredible talent, IPs and communities. To date, it has been a true recipe for success,” said Wingefors. “I am confident in Anton’s strategy and leadership and see a clear long-term opportunity in attracting and enabling partnerships with like-minded independent game developers and talents.” While the move looks largely like it might end up being a good thing for all parties involved, only time will tell how they might end up affecting the developers at all of the studios, as well as the games that they’re making, that will be affected.

  • How ‘Call of Duty’ Is Getting More Veterans Jobs Than the U.S. Government

As Memorial Day approaches and National Military Appreciation Month comes to a close, here’s a timely fact: the largest private funder of veteran employment in the United States is a video game.

Tied to Activision’s long-running military game franchise “Call of Duty,” the aptly named Call of Duty Endowmenthas placed over 150,000 veterans in jobs since 2009 and has been surpassing the federal government’s placement efforts since 2022, according to the organization’s president, Dan Goldenberg.

    Related Stories

The initiative has raised million through sales of special accessory packs in “Call of Duty” games alone, in addition to other donation streams, and “every cent of which is going to putting vets in jobs,” Goldenberg says.

    Popular on Variety

“The ‘Call of Duty’ community has been generous. Activision, as partners, have been incredible. They’ve all kind of come together in this ecosystem,” Goldenberg told Variety. “And one thing I know for sure is we’ve had more measurable social impact than anyone I know of in the gaming industry. I can’t think of another cause where it’s not so much the money raised, it’s the impact out. Others may have raised more money, but we’ve put — including the in-game stuff and other donations and corporate partnerships — close to million against this problem. And as a result, 150,000 vets have jobs, their families are more secure. Meaningful employment is just so core to so many other challenges a vet may encounter. If you have a meaningful job, you probably have health care, you have colleagues, you have purpose.”

According to C.O.D.E., it costs per placement of each vet. The average starting salary for vets in these placements is and 93% are receiving full-time placement. Goldenberg says the program has seen an 89% retention rate at six months. Additionally, 20% of the program’s veterans placed are women.

Launched in 2009 by former Activision chief Bobby Kotick and co-chaired by General James L. Jones beginning in 2012, the Call of Duty Endowment started out a time when the unemployment rate for veterans “was super high,” Goldenberg said.

“It stemmed from this very successful gaming franchise that said, ‘We’ve gotten really big, and we owe a lot of our success to the people who inspired us. We’d like to find a good way to give back to them,'” Goldenberg said, adding that “initially, we looked like a lot of corporate foundations writing big checks. But the difference was the discipline that had made Activision and ‘Call of Duty’ so successful was being applied to trying to solve a social problem here.”

C.O.D.E. is currently bracing for a higher number of unemployed veterans amid the recent job cuts across government service, a popular sector for vet placement, under the administration of President Donald Trump. But Goldenberg says the techniques the endowment already has in place — methods it has been building on through years of trial and error — will help significantly with this influx.

“A lot of it was vetting our partners, and we insisted on a return on our investment,” Goldenberg said. “The difference was, it was a social return. We wanted to see a lot of vets put in jobs. And when we started, we were at parity. Our cost per placement was about the same as the federal government’s efforts.”

And with “consistent disciplined vetting and accountability of our grantees on a quarterly basis,” Goldenberg says the Endowment has pulled ahead.

“It works. So last year, we placed vets in jobs for 1/15th the cost of placement of the government with much higher quality outcomes in terms of average starting salary, retention rates, and the percentage of those jobs that are for full-time employment,” Goldenberg said. “And I guess the big lesson out of it is the discipline of business can really make a big difference for social cost. That’s been our unequivocal experience. We didn’t go in for brands. We looked for nonprofit partners who we thought for the dollar could accomplish the most social impact, and that’s what we’ve gotten.”

As for how the actual “Call of Duty” video games can help vets, a study done by the Entertainment Software Association found that 86% of surveyed U.S. vets said video games provided them with a “healthy outlet for stress and anxiety.” “And not surprisingly, ‘Call of Duty’ is their favorite game,” Goldenberg says of the study’s findings.

“When I’ve talked to friends who’ve been forward, when I’ve gone forward, you would think, and people from outside will say, ‘Don’t you get enough of the military thing?’ And no, it’s like a great way for them — especially when we were in active combat, people would come back to the forward operating bases, and they use it to decompress and have fun,” Goldenberg says.

How ‘Call of Duty’ Is Getting More Veterans Jobs Than the U.S.
Related Stories The initiative has raised million through sales of special accessory packs in “Call of Duty” games alone, in addition to other donation streams, and “every cent of which is going to putting vets in jobs,” Goldenberg says. Popular on Variety “The ‘Call of Duty’ community has been generous. If you have a meaningful job, you probably have health care, you have colleagues, you have purpose.” According to C.O.D.E., it costs per placement of each vet. But the difference was the discipline that had made Activision and ‘Call of Duty’ so successful was being applied to trying to solve a social problem here.” C.O.D.E. is currently bracing for a higher number of unemployed veterans amid the recent job cuts across government service, a popular sector for vet placement, under the administration of President Donald Trump. Our cost per placement was about the same as the federal government’s efforts.” And with “consistent disciplined vetting and accountability of our grantees on a quarterly basis,” Goldenberg says the Endowment has pulled ahead. We looked for nonprofit partners who we thought for the dollar could accomplish the most social impact, and that’s what we’ve gotten.” As for how the actual “Call of Duty” video games can help vets, a study done by the Entertainment Software Association found that 86% of surveyed U.S. vets said video games provided them with a “healthy outlet for stress and anxiety.” “And not surprisingly, ‘Call of Duty’ is their favorite game,” Goldenberg says of the study’s findings. #how #call #duty #getting #more

At the 2025 Digital Dragons conference in Poland, Mike Pondsmith – the mastermind behind the Cyberpunk universe – shared some news about the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. He revealed that players will finally get to leave the iconic Night City and dive into a new urban setting.

Digital Dragons is one of Europe's top B2B events for the video game industry, put together by the Krakow Technology Park. This year's edition ran from May 18 to 20, 2025, at the ICE Krakow Congress Center. One of this year's guests was Mike Pondsmith, the creator of the Cyberpunk tabletop game series, which later inspired Cyberpunk 2077 developed by CD Project RED.

In a chat with Michal Manka, Pondsmith mentioned that we'll be visiting "another city" in the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel – but he quickly added that he couldn't say much more. He didn't drop a name or give any details, so it kind of felt like something that slipped out by accident. The interview begins at 3:06:11 and is available to watch in full on the TVGRY YouTube channel as part of the Digital Dragons stream.

Might be somewhat similar to Chicago?

There's already been a rumor floating around for a while that the city in the sequel could be Chicago, mainly because some posters in Cyberpunk 2077 mention it. One even says, "Travel from Chicago to Night City in under three hours, coming in 2080." So, could this be a small hint that the rumor's actually true?

Mike Pondsmith hints Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel will feature a new city to explore

Project Orion is still shrouded in mystery, but one thing’s clear: we’ll be leaving Night City. Looks like there’ll be a whole new place to burn.

I guess makes sense since they explored night city pretty thoroughly. Would be cool if we see a little bit of night city again though

I'd be bummed if the sequel was just more night city, not that it couldn't work but let's go somewhere new please.

Man can't wait to find out more. I always had to admire CD project from a distance because I wasn't really into medieval fantasy. Always heard how good The Witcher was but was less impressed when I played the games myself. Cyberpunk was amazing , Phantom Liberty was amazing. One can only hope they learned their lesson and can deliver a Phantom Liberty level experience from the start.

Would be really interesting to see Seattle which i think is supposed to be the largest city on the west coast or Chicago which is functionally just dog town extra large edition as far as I'm aware.

Or hell it would be awesome to see Tokyo which is supposed to be one of the most economically powerful cities post collapse.

That would be rather weird if it was set in a completely different city. A side trip to one, sure, but as the main city?

Cyberpunk's world has explored parts of the rest of the world, sure, but it's very highly focused on Night City. This isn't Shadowrun with a bunch of cities explored, mapped out and described around the world. Night City is Cyberpunk to a lesser and greater extent.

It won't use the same engine as 2077, so the chances of them redoing all of Night City in Unreal 5 were slim anyway, no?

Y'know, this sorta kills me - Night City has better Public Works Infrastructure than most real American cities today.

And, per the lore, it's not even "legacy" infrastructure, the NCART network in 2077 is recent, as a replacement for their previous crumbling subway system. Nevermind that Night City has high-density housing within walking distance of amenities.

IDK, are we sure Night City is the dystopia when we talk about Real Life America vs Cyberpunk?

Aside from handling interior loading-zones, they wouldn't really have to "redo" Night City if they leverage existing assets. Static meshes and textures don't care what engine they're in - Aside from the material-shaders.

And if they're not reusing all the assets they made, it wouldn't even matter if they'd stuck with REDEngine, that's still a lot of work to redo.

Fair enough. There is a lot of ways they can expand Night City especially if they give it a good time gap.

By 2077 it's supposed to have at least partly been rebuilt, there's a few mentions of people going there in game. I think by rail or something.

But I imagine it's very much a Pacifica situation

Oh I thought they'd have everything to redo, I didn't know they could reuse everything in another engine. Would this also mean they could keep the same art style? Cause I loved how NC looked in 2077.

I hope they will design a proper "architecture"next time that is suitable for a game, because the feel of the city is just bad when you walk through it and interact with it.

I've said in the past I think a whole new city would be totally appropriate for a sequel. I was told night city is basically the entire setting. But I could definitely see them creating their own city from the ground up and it doing really well.

If it's not something in addition to Night City then it would be a mistake.

So much unrealised potential in the existing map, all they need to do is that again but make it interactive

Hope they look after us habitual building climbers lol.

If they build upon the "unintentional" Parkour system, the possibility for urban exploring is going to be even better. Populating rooftops and areas usually not designed to be reached with automated systems would go a long way.

This is actually a great comparison because Faerûn is way bigger than just the Sword Coast

I think the comparison is apt as the Sword Coast is basically the setting when it comes to the Forgotten Realms same as Night city is for Cyberpunk RED even if there technically is other regions. Even when BG2 left the city of Baldur's Gate it was still the Sword Coast.

Mike Pondsmith hints Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel will feature a new city to explore
Xando Member Oct 28, 2017 37,672 At the 2025 Digital Dragons conference in Poland, Mike Pondsmith – the mastermind behind the Cyberpunk universe – shared some news about the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. Click to expand... Click to shrink... Click to expand... Click to shrink... This was announced a while ago as Project Orion Cyberpunk 2.  Horns Member Dec 7, 2018 3,399 Where ever it may be set, I am assuming it is 5-7 years away at this point. I loved cp2077, but it will be many years until we ever get a sequel. Hard to get hyped for it when it is so long away.   Reflecting Sky Member Mar 17, 2024 2,669 Valus said: Sequel?? It would be like if a Forgotten Realms game wasn't set on the Sword Coast. Click to expand... Click to shrink... This is actually a great comparison because Faerûn is way bigger than just the Sword Coast   FakePlasticTree Member Jul 24, 2018 14,010 Slim Action said: This is actually a great comparison because Faerûn is way bigger than just the Sword Coast Click to expand... Click to shrink... I think the comparison is apt as the Sword Coast is basically the setting when it comes to the Forgotten Realms same as Night city is for Cyberpunk RED even if there technically is other regions. Even when BG2 left the city of Baldur's Gate it was still the Sword Coast.

  • Pokémon TCG Pocket unleashes Ultra Beasts in new Extradimensional Crisis packs

Following the release of Triumphant Light, The Pokémon Company has announced the fourth themed booster pack for Pokémon: Trading Card Game Pocket, Extradimensional Crisis, introducing Ultra Beasts to the mobile collectible card game.

Ultra Beasts, first introduced in the Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon video games, are enigmatic creatures from another dimension. They arrive through Ultra Wormholes and emit a strange, otherworldly energy. Pokémon TCG Pocket introduces cards like Buzzwole ex, Blacephalon, Nihilego, and Guzzlord ex, including a few more Pokémon from the Alola region, such as the debut of Type: Null.

To mark the Ultra Beasts’ debut in Pokémon TCG Pocket, a themed binder cover featuring these powerful creatures will be available in the Shop starting May 29, purchasable with shop tickets. Additionally, players can highlight their favorite card using a new floral display board, which can be obtained with event shop tickets earned during the upcoming Wonder Pick event, running June 11-28.

There will be three events during June to coincide with the release. The first is the Ultra Beast Drop Event starting June 3-13, where players can take on special solo battles to earn new promo cards, including Ultra Necrozma ex. The Wonder Pick Event next starts June 11-21, where promo cards for Poipole and Stufful will be available to pick. Lastly, the Ultra Beast Mass Outbreak Event starts June 22-28, where Ultra Beast-related cards will have increased chances of appearing in rare picks and bonus picks.

Collecting Pokémon cards through the app might be the safer — and less stressful — option right now. You don’t want to be competing against the scalpers who camp outside GameStop literally risking their lives to get Pokémon cards.

  • Cyberpunk 2077 DreamPunk 3.1.1 Mod Pushes Visuals to Unprecedented Realism With Enhanced Path Tracing and More

Cyberpunk 2077 continues to be one of the most impressive-looking open-world RPGs ever released, thanks to mods such as the DreamPunk mod which elevates the game's visuals to new levels of realism.
The 3.1.1 version of the mod and the enhancements it brings to the game developed by CD Projekt Red are showcased in an 8K resolution video shared by the creator of the mod, NextGen Dreams, on YouTube. The new version of the mode redefines all the features seen in the previous versions at a small performance cost, introducing a new LUT designed to extend the lower dynamic range of the game, enhanced path tracing configuration, and more. The video also showcases the custom-made photo realistic camera shake shader, which looks great for gameplay showcases and free roaming.
With the development of Cyberpunk 2077 concluded, except for the development of the Nintendo Switch 2 port, which is launching next month together with the next-generation Nintendo system, CD Projekt Red is now entirely focused on the development of the second entry in the series, currently known as Project Orion. Earlier this week, the creator of the Cyberpunk universe revealed that the game will feature a second city to explore besides Night City, a city that was described as a sort of Chicago gone wrong, with a very different vibe than the city players have explored alongside V in the original game.
Cyberpunk 2077 is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox One. The game will launch on Nintendo Switch on June 5th.
