From Algorithms to Atoms: NVIDIA ALCHEMI NIM Catalyzes Sustainable Materials Research for EV Batteries, Solar Panels and More
More than 96% of all manufactured goods ranging from everyday products, like laundry detergent and food packaging, to advanced industrial components, such as semiconductors, batteries and solar panels rely on chemicals that cannot be replaced with alternative materials. With AI and the latest technological advancements, researchers and developers are studying ways to create novel materials that could address the worlds toughest challenges, such as energy storage and environmental remediation.Announced today at the Supercomputing 2024 conference in Atlanta, the NVIDIA ALCHEMI NIM microservice accelerates such research by optimizing AI inference for chemical simulations that could lead to more efficient and sustainable materials to support the renewable energy transition. Its one of the many ways NVIDIA is supporting researchers, developers and enterprises to boost energy and resource efficiency in their workflows, including to meet requirements aligned with the global Net Zero Initiative.NVIDIA ALCHEMI for Material and Chemical SimulationsExploring the universe of potential materials, using the nearly infinite combinations of chemicals each with unique characteristics can be extremely complex and time consuming. Novel materials are typically discovered through laborious, trial-and-error synthesis and testing in a traditional lab. Many of todays plastics, for example, are still based on material discoveries made in the mid-1900s.More recently, AI has emerged as a promising accelerant for chemicals and materials innovation. With the new ALCHEMI NIM microservice, researchers can test chemical compounds and material stability in simulation, in a virtual AI lab, which reduces costs, energy consumption and time to discovery. For example, running MACE-MP-0, a pretrained foundation model for materials chemistry, on an NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPU, the new NIM microservice speeds evaluations of a potential compositions simulated long-term stability 100x. The below figure shows a 25x speedup from using the NVIDIA Warp Python framework for high-performance simulation, followed by a 4x speedup with in-flight batching. All in all, evaluating 16 million structures would have taken months with the NIM microservice, it can be done in just hours.By letting scientists examine more structures in less time, the NIM microservice can boost research on materials for use with solar and electric batteries, for example, to bolster the renewable energy transition.NVIDIA also plans to release NIM microservices that can be used to simulate the manufacturability of novel materials to determine how they might be brought from test tubes into the real world in the form of batteries, solar panels, fertilizers, pesticides and other essential products that can contribute to a healthier, greener planet.SES AI, a leading developer of lithium-metal batteries, is using the NVIDIA ALCHEMI NIM microservice with the AIMNet2 model to accelerate the identification of electrolyte materials used for electric vehicles.SES AI is dedicated to advancing lithium battery technology through AI-accelerated material discovery, using our Molecular Universe Project to explore and identify promising candidates for lithium metal electrolyte discovery, said Qichao Hu, CEO of SES AI. Using the ALCHEMI NIM microservice with AIMNet2 could drastically improve our ability to map molecular properties, reducing time and costs significantly and accelerating innovation.SES AI recently mapped 100,000 molecules in half a day, with the potential to achieve this in under an hour using ALCHEMI. This signals how the microservice is poised to have a transformative impact on material screening efficiency.Looking ahead, SES AI aims to map the properties of up to 10 billion molecules within the next couple of years, pushing the boundaries of AI-driven, high-throughput discovery. The new microservice will soon be available for researchers to test for free through the NVIDIA NGC catalog be notified of ALCHEMIs launch. It will also be downloadable from build.nvidia.com, and the production-grade NIM microservice will be offered through the NVIDIA AI Enterprise software platform.Learn more about the NVIDIA ALCHEMI NIM microservice, and hear the latest on how AI and supercomputing are supercharging researchers and developers workflows by joining NVIDIA at SC24, running through Friday, Nov. 22.See notice regarding software product information.

Alien: Rogue Incursion new story trailer, gameplay details
Were excited to say that Alien: Rogue Incursion is ready for your PS VR2 weve gone gold and are putting the finishing touches on the game, which is releasing on December 19. To celebrate, we have a brand-new trailer that delves deeper into Zulas story on LV-354, also known as Purdan.Play VideoHow did we go about making this trailer? Trailers are tricky things. You need to quickly break through the noise of everyday life, grab the audiences attention, and get them excited to see more. It seems logical that youd show the most fantastic, and exciting content. But that approach doesnt entirely work fans often complain that trailers give away too much detail about the film or game.Trailers need to curate the key components that fans expect, showcasing critical features in a compelling way and teasing elements that will blow players away, all while telling a self-contained story that begins and ends in roughly two minutes or less. VR games need to both establish the world that youll be immersed in and to communicate how you will operate in that environment. We have 2 minutes to make you feel that sense of presence and wonder.Trailers often focus on a particular theme or feature of the game that the team wants to showcase. So far, for Alien: Rogue Incursion, weve released trailers for our Hero Reveal, Enemies, Weapons & Gear, etc. Fans of the Alien franchise are also hugely invested in the story, so this trailer introduces the audience to the larger narrative, providing the set-up of why Zula Hendricks is on LV-354, Purdan. What happened to Zulas friend and former squad mate there? What deadly experiments have the researchers at this facility been messing with? Here is a breakdown of how we approached this trailer and told the story of the story. One of our early creative decisions was that whatever happened on Purdan had already happened. Zula is stepping into the aftermath of some event that has left Castors Cradle the research facility infested with horrifying Xenomorphs. Picking up the story after the facility has been compromised allows us to jump right into the suspense and action. The trailer follows a classic three-act structure, where each act has a particular focus. Act One of the trailers focuses was Mystery. Zula and Davis 01 head to Purdan to meet with Zulas former squad mate, Ben Carver. While approaching Castors Cradle, they notice their communications are jammed. Suddenly, they are fired upon by missiles and crash land at the facility. Act One of the trailer presents Zula -and the audience with many questions that need answering.Act Two of our story trailer focuses on revealing those events and showcasing the Dawning Horror. We see inside the facility and hear the voices of the people who work there. We weave in classic Alien themes like corporate corruption, personal greed, and professional hubris, all of which create a perfect storm of conditions for a Xenomorph outbreak. Hearing this dialog over the imagery of destruction, smoke, fire, and blood, we know the facility has already fallen. Now for the Big Finish! Our third act is The Enemy Revealed, where we see what Zula is up against. More truths are revealed about the facilityincluding that Gemini Exoplanet Solutions was experimenting with Xenomorphsand, most importantly, the Xenomorphs have already taken over. Zula has seen a lot in her storied career, but sheand the player will discover that the Xenomorphs at Castors Cradle are tougher, faster, and more unpredictable than what she has encountered. They are, in a word, evolved.Weve established by this point that danger is truly everywhere, and now we want to show players that you have the means to fight back. Armed with your weapons (M41 Prototype Pulse Rifle, Shotgun, Revolver, and Tacticals), Gear (Motion Tracker, Plasma Torch, Health Stims, Tablet), and Davis 01 at your side, you get to take the fight to them experiencing the world of Alien like you never have before. You will finally get to feel what its like to step into the world of the films -Aliens in particular- and immerse yourself in an experience so visceral and real that it will change your perceptions forever.Alien: Rogue Incursion launches December 19 on PS VR2. And thats a promise, as the game has already GONE GOLD! See you all at launch!

How to unlock free characters in Genshin Impact
In Genshin Impact, youll start out with just a single character, the Traveler. But over time, youll work to build out your roster with more characters, each with their own unique abilities. You usually do this by making Wishes on the gacha banners, but if you want to Wish a lot, youll need to spend money. Luckily, there are a few free characters you can get to help kickstart your teams growth.Notably, three of the characters listed below (Amber, Kaeya, and Lisa) are all characters that are rarely featured in the gacha Wish banners. Getting constellations for these characters is extremely rare. Our Genshin Impact guide covers the free characters you can get, including some details about how to get them and how they play. The Traveler (Aether/Lumine) Anemo, Geo, Electro, Dendro, or Hydro sword-userWhen you first start Genshin Impact, youll get to choose between the male character (Aether) or the female character (Lumine). This character is commonly referred to as the Traveler and they are the protagonist of the game. You do not have to actively use them in your party, but they will star in most of the subsequent cutscenes. The Traveler starts as an Anemo character, but once you arrive in different regions, youll be able to unlock the respective elements for that region. Going to Liyue will unlock Geo abilities. going to Inazuma will unlock Electro abilities, going to Sumeru will unlock Dendro abilities, and going to Fontaine will unlock Hydro abilities. You can change the characters element by visiting a Statue of the Seven in the respective region.Note that as of writing this, the Traveler has no Pyro abilities, even though we have access to Natlan. The Travelers Pyro form is likely coming in a later patch.Amber Pyro bow-userAmber is the second character youll come across. Once you meet Paimon, follow the opening quest and youll bump into Amber very quickly. You cant really progress and explore without picking up Amber, so just follow the main story quests until you recruit her.Amber is known for being one of the weakest characters in the game, but her ability to fire off Pyro-infused arrows will help you solve tons of puzzles around Teyvat.Kaeya Cryo sword-userKaeya is the third character youll pick up. Shortly after you encounter Amber and enter Mondstadt, youll get a handful of quests. One of those quests, Crash Course, talks about meeting Kaeya at a temple. Follow the objective marker and meet him at the dungeon. After a short tutorial on how Kaeya and Cryo characters work, youll finish the quest and recruit Kaeya to your party.Just like Amber, Kaeya is not particularly strong, but his Cryo abilities will help you solve early puzzles. Additionally, his Glacial Waltz ability does have its uses in niche team compositions.Lisa Electro catalyst-userLisas acquisition method is very similar to Kaeya. Once you visit Mondstadt, youll get a quest called Sparks Amongst the Pages. Follow the quest marker to another temple, and go through it. As is the case in Crash Course, youll get a tutorial for Lisa, and then add her to your party once youre done.Just like the other two, Lisa is far from the best Electro character youll get, but youll definitely want her around to solve any Electro puzzles you see in the early game.Xiangling Pyro polearm-userOnce you hit Adventure Rank 20, youll unlock the Spiral Abyss. This is a kind of floor-based dungeon where youll take your squad through progressively harder floors, gaining some bonuses as you go. If you manage to clear Floor 3, Chamber 3 of the Spiral Abyss, youll get Xiangling for free.Xiangling is the best of the free characters, and she remains extremely relevant to the meta, as her Pyronado ability allows her to consistently keep up damage, even when shes not on the field. Alongside Bennett, another four-star character, she remains a staple in a ton of teams.Noelle Geo claymore-userNoelle is free in a technicality, as shes guaranteed from the beginners gacha wish banner. You could avoid wishing on that banner and not get the guaranteed Noelle from it, if you really wanted to.There are only five permanently-available Geo characters in the game outside of the Traveler, so Noelle is a good get, especially if you need to solve Geo based puzzles. You can also build her to swing big and hard if you wanted to.Collei Dendro bow-userJust like Xiangling, youll unlock Collei for free from just doing Spiral Abyss. Youll need to clear Floor 4, Chamber 3, so youll need to clear more than you needed to for Xiangling.Collei is a fine Dendro support, as she can apply Dendro well and help you solve Dendro puzzles in a pinch (especially if you dont have your Traveler attuned to the right element).Lynette Anemo sword-userLynette unlocks for free once you reach Adventure Rank 25 or higher, and she can be claimed from the usual event screen.Shes a great Anemo support who can be used the same way Kazuha or Sucrose can be; place her skills on the field to add big zones of area-of-effect swirl damage when combined with other elements.Other free characters through eventsOn occasion, some limited-time events will reward free characters (or Constellations, if you already have the character). So far, the flagship events have only rewarded four-star characters, but this can be useful if youre missing important, powerful characters like Xingqiu or Bennett. The characters available through these events normally reflect the region where the event is taking place. For example, a big event in Mondstadt may reward Barbara or Noelle, but an event in Liyue may reward Ningguang or Beidou. Either way, its worth paying attention to events to score some freebie characters.During the fourth anniversary event for the game, players were able to select a standard five-star character (Dehya, Keqing, Mona, Qiqi, Jean, Tighnari, or Diluc) for free. This is the only time the game has given away a five-star character, but we can likely expect something similar for future anniversary events. If youre looking for more to do in Genshin Impact, we have tons of guides to get you started. Our early Genshin Impact guides will list out beginners tips to get your started, how the characters elemental reactions work, and explain the battle pass to you.We have expansive guides on pesky Sumeru side content, like Udumbara Pistil locations and where the Aranyaka Mysterious Clipboard buried chests are. We have content for Natlan, too, explaining how to unlock the various Natlan world quests and how to make the Natlan craftable weapons.

How Elemental Reactions and Resonance work in Genshin Impact
The seven elements in Genshin Impact are important for battle, but knowing all of the combinations of Elemental Reaction and Resonance is a must for building powerful teams. Our guide explains all the Elemental Reactions and Resonance effects in Genshin Impact.Elemental ResonanceHaving two of the same element type on a party will activate Elemental Resonance, giving your team a special buff. The buffs are as follows:Fervent Flames (Pyro): Affected byCryofor 40% less time. Increases ATK by 25%.Enduring Rock (Geo): Increases shield strength by 15%. Additionally, characters protected by a shield will have the following special characteristics: DMG dealt increased by 15%, dealing DMG to enemies will decrease theirGeoRES by 20% for 15s.Sprawling Greenery (Dendro): Elemental Mastery increased by 50. After triggering Burning, Quicken, or Bloom reactions, all nearby party members gain 30 Elemental Mastery for 6s. After triggering Aggravate, Spread, Hyperbloom, or Burgeon reactions, all nearby party members gain 20 Elemental Mastery for 6s. The durations of the aforementioned effects will be counted independently.Impetuous Winds (Anemo): Decreases Stamina Consumption by 15%. Increases Movement SPD by 10%. Shortens Skill Cooldown (CD) by 5%.Shattering Ice (Cryo): Affected byElectrofor 40% less time. Increases CRIT Rate against enemies that are Frozen or affected byCryoby 15%.Soothing Waters (Hydro): Affected byPyrofor 40% less time. Increases max HP by 25%.High Voltage (Electro): Affected byHydrofor 40% less time. Superconduct, Overloaded, Electro-Charged, Quicken, Aggravate, or Hyperbloom have a 100% chance to generate an Electro Elemental Particle (CD: 5s).Protective Canopy (Any four unique elements): All Elemental RES +15%, Physical RES +15%.Youll likely want to take advantage of these bonuses. Tons of teams with main Pyro DPS will use Bennett or Xianglings Pyro affinity to get an ATK bonus, whereas Zhongli and Itto mains may rely more on the increased shield strength.Elemental ReactionsWhen two elements are applied to an enemy, they will typically react. Not every combination will have a reaction, but you should definitely be using the ones that are available to your advantage in combat. The reactions are as follows:Frozen (Cryo + Hydro): Frozen beings are rendered immobile, but also become rock-hard.Vaporize (Pyro + Hydro): The Pyro or Hydro attack that triggers Vaporize deals increased DMG.Electro-Charged (Electro + Hydro): Electro-Charged continuously deals Electro DMG until it wears off. Electricity intermittently arcs off of Electro-Charged beings, shocking Hydro-affected opponents nearby.Overloaded (Pyro + Electro): The resulting explosion deals AoE Pyro DMG, and tears effortlessly through otherwise sturdy objects.Superconduct (Cryo + Electro): Superconduct deals AoE Cryo DMG and significantly decreases Physical RES for the affected being.Burning (Pyro + Dendro): Continuously deals Pyro DMG until it wears off.Swirl (Anemo + Cryo/Electro/Hydro/Pyro): Swirl can deal elemental DMG, affect beings, and generate further Elemental Reactions.Melt (Cryo + Pyro): The Pyro or Cryo attack that triggers Melt deals increased DMG.Crystalize (Geo + Cryo/Electro/Hydro/Pyro): This type of elemental reaction can generate corresponding Elemental Shards and provide your character with various Elemental Shields.Bloom (Dendro + Hydro): Bloom causes Dendro Cores to fall off the enemy and onto the floor. When Dendro Cores are hit with Pyro, this causes Burgeon, which does AoE Dendro damage. When Dendro Cores are hit with Electro, the cores become homing Sprawling Shots. Cores left on the ground will explode and do AoE Dendro damage.Quicken (Dendro + Electro): When Quickened, Electro attacks activate Aggravate and do more damage. Further Dendro attacks to a Quickened enemy activate Spread, which increases Dendro damage to the enemy.

You Can Finally Reset Your Instagram Algorithm
The modern internet is ruled by algorithms. When you boot up Instagram, for example, what you see in your feed is strategically sorted by the app's AI based on your past activity to keep you engaged as long as possible. If Instagram showed you a bunch of random posts you had no interest in, you'd likely leave immediately. But when each photo or video is something that piques your curiosity, well, that's how a social media addiction is born. That said, sometimes, our algorithm goes a little haywire. Perhaps you had a passing interest in a creator or subject, but now it's all over your feed. Maybe an accidental "like" or share mistakenly taught the algorithm you're a fan of something you really are not, and now you're subjected to the topic with every other post (and advertisement, for that matter). In the past, you really had two options: tell Instagram you didn't want to see these types of posts and actively seek out other types of content, or start fresh with a new account, and take care not to anger the algorithmic gods. Now, however, things are about to change: Instagram is going to let you reset your algorithm.Meta announced the changes in a blog post on Tuesday: The company is currently testing the ability for users to reset their "recommendations" (essentially a PR-friendly word for algorithm). Once cleared, you will find posts on your Explore page, Reels tab, and your main feed that you likely wouldn't have encountered before, and you'll probably miss out on posts you would have seen under your previous algorithm. That said, the algorithm is still active, which means it'll learn your habits over time and begin showing you personalized content based on your activity and pages you follow. If you're careful about the posts you like and share, and the pages you follow, this algorithm might turn out better than the old one. How to reset your Instagram algorithmOnce the option rolls out on your end, you'll find it in your Instagram settings. Open the app, tap your profile, then tap the hamburger menu in the top right. Scroll down and tap Content preferences under "What you see," then tap the new Reset suggested content option. Here, Instagram will warn you that your reset cannot be undone, and you'll see posts you wouldn't normally see. As an added deterrent, Instagram will suggest that you unfollow certain accounts instead of reseting your recommendations altogether. However, if you're set on resetting, choose Reset suggested content, then hit the option again on the pop-up. Instagram will return you to your main feed, with a subtle alert confirming your suggested content was reset.

First trailer for A Minecraft Movie delivers on iconic in-game moments
A Minecraft Movie has dropped its first full-length trailer today, expanding on the blocky world hinted at by the teaser released in September. While the game Minecraft gives players only the barest sense of direction, there will be a traditional story driving A Minecraft Movie.Jack Black provides a voiceover about how his character, Minecraft mascot and stock avatar Steve, was drawn to the mines as a child and discovered the Overworld. He teams up with four other people, seemingly from the real world we know, to protect the Overworld from "dark forces" with their inventiveness and creativity. This all sounds like pretty standard fare for a video game movie rag-tag group of misfits band together and learn the power of friendship. It's unclear whether their foes will be baddies from the Nether or the End, because while those can be a pain, they canonically don't seem interested in world domination. But I'm not here for a clever, compelling plot. The trailer is a sizzle reel of familiar in-game experiences, and that's exactly what I want. Taming a wolf with a bone, making a chicken-roasting redstone machine and nighttime coming way faster than you want it to all get their due. The team certainly did their homework on that front. The art style they've chosen doesn't speak to me, but I'm also willing to admit to some bias after hundreds of hours spent looking at the original source material. I'm also not sure if they'll stick the landing on the humor and emotion or whether it'll fall flat like an elytra that's run out of juice. We'll find out when A Minecraft Movie releases on April 5, 2025.This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/entertainment/tv-movies/first-trailer-for-a-minecraft-movie-delivers-on-iconic-in-game-moments-210252851.html?src=rss
