This article contains spoilers for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episode 8.We still may not know much about Jude Laws Jod Na Nawood (if thats even his real name) or the various identities hes assumed across his life, but the season finale of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew may have just given us the first real nugget of information about his past. Jod is a ruthless pirate, theres no doubt about that, but hes also clearly Force-sensitive. While previous fan theories have assumed that he was a survivor of the initial wave of Order 66, the story he tells to the kids and their parents sounds more like he was a victim of its aftermath.Jod tells them that a woman, a Jedi on the run, found him starving on his home planet and took him under her wing. According to Jod, she only taught [him] a little before they hunted her down, and they made me watch whilst they killed her While he doesnt explicitly define who they are, its not unlikely that she was killed by Darth Vaders Inquisitors.After the initial massacre of the Jedi, Darth Vader created the Inquisitors as a sort of Jedi-hunting task force. This program took Force-sensitive youths, many of whom were former Jedi, and turned them over to the Dark Side. While they arent considered to be full Sith, the Inquisitors are taught to channel anger and hatred and use that to hunt down other Force-sensitive people. In some cases, especially if the Force-sensitive person is younger, theyll try to convert them, but most of the time the Inquisitors have orders to kill.And from what weve seen of the Inquisitors in Star Wars thus far, whether in Star Wars: Rebels, Obi-Wan Kenobi, or the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order video game series, among others, the Inquisitors are ruthless and often relish their kill, just as Jod describes. Obviously he found a way to escape whomever it was at some point, but even spending just a short time with the Inquisitors makes Jods whole deal make a lot of sense.The Inquisitors and pirates seem to have a lot more in common than you might think. They are both ruthless, going after what they want with a greedy fervor. Whether they are after riches or power, both groups are willing to do whatever it takes to get what they want. They arent afraid to use fear and intimidation to make others bow to their will, and they arent above taking hostages to lure their true target out in the open.If Jod really has been fighting for his survival his entire life, a run-in with the Inquisitors is just the kind of encounter that could begin to turn a scared young boy into the ruthless man we know him as now. Especially if that encounter tore him from the one person in his past that seems to have ever shown him kindness.Now this is all just speculation Jods past is still just as much an enigma of secret identities and apparent backstabbing as it was when Skeleton Crew began. But this is the first clue about his past that feels real and not like a misdirect or manipulation tactic. Hopefully this isnt the last weve seen of this mysterious pirate and simply the beginning of his story, both past and present, in the Star Wars universe.All eight episodes of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew are available to stream on Disney+ now.

Australian-German startup Quantum Brilliance has raised $20mn in Series A funding as it looks to deploy small, portable quantum accelerators that promise to supercharge the computational power of everything from data centres and robots to satellites.A quantum accelerator is a specialised hardware unit that speeds up specific quantum algorithms, or tasks. They act as co-processors to classical computers, such as CPUs or GPUs, taking on specific quantum calculations.Austrian deep tech fund Main Sequence, In-Q-Tel (IQT) in the US, and Japans Intervalley Ventures led the funding round. It represents a significant step forward as we advance the design, performance, and manufacturability of diamond quantum devices, said Quantum Brilliance CEO Mark Luo.Founded in 2019, Quantum Brilliance uses diamonds in its accelerators, allowing them to operate at room temperature, unlike most quantum systems that need super-cooling. Earlier this month, Apple CEO Tim Cook donated $1 million to President-elect Donald Trumps inauguration. Now, Bloomberg reports that Cook is set to attend Trumps inauguration next week. Many big tech companies, including Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, and Google, have donated to Trumps inauguration. Of note is that Tim Cooks donation is being made personally to Trumps inauguration fund. Apple as a company has not donated. In addition to Cook, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Amazons Jeff Bezos will attend Trumps inauguration next week. Telsas Elon Musk will also (unsurprisingly) be in attendance. The president-elect has also met privately with a number of executives at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, including Cook. The North Korea-linked Lazarus Group has been attributed to a new cyber attack campaign dubbed Operation 99 that targeted software developers looking for freelance Web3 and cryptocurrency work to deliver malware."The campaign begins with fake recruiters, posing on platforms like LinkedIn, luring developers with project tests and code reviews," Ryan Sherstobitoff, senior vice president of Threat Research and Intelligence at SecurityScorecard, said in a new report published today."Once a victim takes the bait, they're directed to clone a malicious GitLab repository seemingly harmless, but packed with disaster. The cloned code connects to command-and-control (C2) servers, embedding malware into the victim's environment."Victims of the campaign have been identified across the globe, with a significant concentration recorded in Italy. A lesser number of impacted victims are located in Argentina, Brazil, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Pakistan, the Philippines, the U.K., and the U.S.The cybersecurity company said the campaign, which it discovered on January 9, 2025, builds on job-themed tactics previously observed in Lazarus attacks, such as Operation Dream Job (aka NukeSped), to particularly focus on targeting developers in Web3 and cryptocurrency fields.What makes Operation 99 unique is that it entices developers with coding projects as part of an elaborate recruitment scheme that involves crafting deceptive LinkedIn profiles, which are then used to direct them to rogue GitLab repositories. The end goal of the attacks is to deploy data-stealing implants that are capable of extracting source code, secrets, cryptocurrency wallet keys, and other sensitive data from development environments.These include Main5346 and its variant Main99, which serves as a downloader for three additional payloads -Payload99/73 (and its functionally similar Payload5346), which collects system data (e.g., files and clipboard content), terminate web browser processes, executes arbitrary, and establishes a persistent connection to the C2 serverBrow99/73, which steals data from web browsers to facilitate credential theftMCLIP, which monitors and exfiltrates keyboard and clipboard activity in real-time"By compromising developer accounts, attackers not only exfiltrate intellectual property but also gain access to cryptocurrency wallets, enabling direct financial theft," the company said. "The targeted theft of private and secret keys could lead to millions in stolen digital assets, furthering the Lazarus Group's financial goals."The malware architecture adopts a modular design and is flexible, and capable of working across Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems. It also serves to highlight the ever-evolving and adaptable nature of nation-state cyber threats."For North Korea, hacking is a revenue generating lifeline," Sherstobitoff said. "The Lazarus Group has consistently funneled stolen cryptocurrency to fuel the regime's ambitions, amassing staggering sums.
