A judge Monday found Trump is flouting his order from last week that paused a freeze on spending.The judge ordered the administration to restore and resume all frozen funding immediately.The order was by the federal judge in Rhode Island overseeing a lawsuit brought by 22 states and DC.The Trump administration is violating a federal court order by continuing to freeze funding for federal programs, a judge in Rhode Island found on Monday.In a sharply worded response, US District Judge John J. McConnell, Jr., who is overseeing a lawsuit brought by 22 states and the District of Columbia, ordered the administration to immediately restore and resume the funding.The order is the first major challenge to recent suggestions that if President Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and DOGE director Elon Musk don't like what a judge orders, one option is to ignore it, said Michel Paradis, who teaches constitutional law at Columbia Law School.Over the past few days, Vance posted on X that, "Judges aren't allowed to control the executive's legitimate power," and Musk posted his support of an X user's suggestion that Trump openly defy the courts. Trump, meanwhile, complained over the weekend that judges shouldn't be "allowed" to challenge recent DOGE actions."That's some tough language. The judge is not messing around," Paradis told Business Insider of Monday's order by the Rhode Island jurist."It's return fire, to the extent that the Trump administration has declared that neither Congress nor the courts are allowed to question his authority."McConnell's order comes in response to evidence from the plaintiff states showing that the freeze which he said was causing "irreparable harm" and was "likely unconstitutional" is being flouted, the judge wrote."The States have presented evidence in this motion that the Defendants in some cases have continued to improperly freeze federal funds and refused to resume disbursement of appropriated federal funds," the judge wrote.That evidence included affidavits detailing the ongoing distruption of funding from the Environmental Protection Agency, the Departments of Energy, the National Institutes for Health, and Health and Human Services, including for the Head Start program."The Defendants must immediately restore frozen funding" while the court weighs the state's claims and the government's arguments on behalf of the freeze, the judge wrote.Asked if the Trump administration would comply with the latest order, a White House spokesperson responded by criticizing the legal challenges to the president's recent executive orders."Each executive order will hold up in court because every action of the Trump-Vance administration is completely lawful," Harrison Fields, the principal White House deputy press secretary, said."Any legal challenge against it is nothing more than an attempt to undermine the will of the American people, who overwhelming elected President Trump to secure the border, revitalize the economy, and restore common-sense policies."Paradis said McConnell can find the defendants who include Acting Office of Management and Budget Director Matthew Vaeth and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in contempt if his court order continues to be ignored.Trump is also a defendant in the AGs' lawsuit. But holding a sitting president in contempt is a "constitutionally complex issue," and a "totally open question," Paradis said."There are plenty of people who say that just as you can't prosecute the president, you can't hold them in contempt because it creates a separation of powers problem," he explained."But there's no question whatsoever that you can hold his subordinates, including Cabinet secretaries, very much in contempt of court and that he could do nothing about that," Paradis said of Trump. Would you play a remake of Resident Evil 5? (Capcom)A few Resident Evil games have received new Xbox Series X ratings from the ESRB, sparking theories of modern re-releases.Even before the Resident Evil 4 remake became the fastest-selling game in the series, Capcom expressed an interest in remaking more of the older games.The new ending for the Resident Evil 4 remake initially sparked theories that 2009s Resident Evil 5 would be next in line. Last year, however, it was rumoured that remakes of Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil Code: Veronica were being prioritised instead.While Capcom has yet to say anything official, it does seem like the company is planning to do something with Resident Evil 5 as a new rating for the game has been spotted online.Spotted by Bluesky user Wario64, the website for the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) has recently posted a new listing for Resident Evil 5 rating it for the Xbox Series X/S.For the record, Resident Evil 5 was released for the Xbox One, as well as the PlayStation 4, in 2016, so the game is currently playable on Xbox Series X/S consoles thanks to backwards compatibility.The new rating indicates, however, that its for a dedicated Xbox Series X/S version of the game. While these listings only mention Xbox, its reasonable to assume any such re-releases would also come to PlayStation 5 and maybe even the Nintendo Switch 2.Even if Resident Evil 5 was being considered for a remake, Capcoms priority is likely Resident Evil 9, which was formally announced last year. The DeepSeek app, which shocked the stock market when it moved to the top of the Apple App Store in January, transmits data unencrypted over the internet and insecurely stores usernames, passwords, and other credentials, according to an analysis by mobile app security firm NowSecure. The vulnerabilities the firm found affect the mobile app through which many users access DeepSeeks AI models, not the models themselves, which can also be run locally on a users device or through a separate hosting platform.Because mobile apps change quickly and are a largely unprotectedattack surface, they present a very real risk to companies and consumers, NowSecure wrote. DeepSeek is high profile, but not unique. Analyzing the DeepSeek apps performance on real phones, NowSecure found that the iPhone version came with an important security feature designed by Apple turned off.The DeepSeek iOS app globally disables App Transport Security (ATS) which is an iOS platform level protection that prevents sensitive data from being sent over unencrypted channels, the analysts wrote. Since this protection is disabled, the app can (and does) send unencrypted data over the internet. The lack of encryption could make users susceptible to man-in-the-middle attacks, where someone with control over the network on which the device is communicating is able to view or modify communications between the user and DeepSeeks servers.NowSecure also found that in some instances the DeepSeek app was caching sensitive information, including username and password, in an unencrypted file on the device that could potentially be reviewed by an attacker who gained physical or remote access to the device. Other vulnerabilities NowSecure identified are more common among mobile apps. For example, the analysts determined that DeepSeek collects a variety of data about the network and device the app is operating on that can be combined with other information and used by data brokers, or potentially even more nefarious actors, to track and monitor a user. The NowSecure report comes as several governments are banning their employees from using DeepSeek due to security vulnerabilities and the fact that the company is based in China.On Monday, New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced that state employees were barred from using DeepSeeks models on their devices. Yesterday during the Super Bowl, Marvel gave us another solid look at Thunderbolts, the final movie to bow out the current phase of the MCU, as we prepare to take some fantasticFirst Steps just a few months later. But while the trailer largely covered re-introducing us to its rag-tag team just like our first big look did, it threw in some very interesting looks at just what those would-be-heroes are up against and its not great. While Marvels still largely tip-toeing around the fact, it was already pretty much a given that Lewis Pullmans Bob inThunderbolts was in fact Robert Reynolds, aka Marvels most famous answer to Superman in the comics, Sentry. We barely got to see Bob in the first trailer, and we see him even less in the new trailer. Well, sort of. Because while we dont see much of Bob himself as the man who will become Sentry in the trailer, we do see a lot of, well, a Superman-esque figure causing a whole lot of chaos and carnage. And they are in fact one and the same. Enter the Void Marvel Comics Robert Reynolds gains his superhuman powers as a teenager, when he steals a vial of an experimental strain of the Super Soldier Serumone born from historical research by a fractured pan-nation coalition of scientists in the wake of Captain Americas appearance in World War II. Granting him vast powers of enhanced strength and speed, flight, invulnerability, and more, Roberts ailing mental health also reacted to his transformation, immediately subsuming him in a malevolent persona that that would become known only as the Void. Capable of wielding all of Roberts newfound powers but with a depraved malice that lifted his restraints, the Void was countered in Roberts mind by the creation of a heroic persona, one that he would eventually manifest as Sentry. The Void persisted as a violent aspect of Robert in his mind, emerging out of his control and without his true knowledgebelieving for many years that the Void was a separate person and Sentrys archvillain nemesisto grimly balance the scales of his career as Sentry. For every life that Robert saved as Sentry, the Void aspired to take one in turn, and it would take years of investigation before Robert realized that Sentry and Void were two sides of the same coin. At the conclusion of his debut Marvel Knights miniseries, after the Void had slaughtered a million people in Manhattan, Robert worked with Mr. Fantastic and Doctor Strange on a plan to end the Voids grip on him: by erasing not just Roberts memory of his powers and time as Sentry, but the entire worlds, the Void would no longer have need to manifest as a dark foil to Sentrys actions, seemingly eliminating the two altogether.In the years since as Robert has returned on and off as Sentry, so has the Void, with Robert also occasionally still believing that the Void is a separate entity beyond his manifestation within him, and has tried and failed to either outright destroy or separate the Void several times. It would take, again, a sacrifice on Roberts part to seemingly vanquish the Void entirely, albeit an unintentional one: when Sentry died in the 2020 eventKing in Blacktorn to shreds by the titular villain, Knullthe Void remained as a lingering entity, choosing to submit to Knull and be absorbed by him entirely. When Knull himself was beaten by Eddie Brock at the climax of the event, the Void, entirely subsumed by Knull, seemingly died with him. The Voids Powers, Explained Marvel Comics As the same person, the Void essentially has all of Roberts powers as Sentry as well as the compulsion to use them for evil. But as we see in the new Thunderbolts trailer, he does actually have several unique abilities that spin out of them. The Void uses Roberts ability to manipulate matter and energy to not only shapeshift his form, but also project clouds and tendrils of dark matter, like the one we see enveloping New York in the film. Voids tendrils themselves can also fluctuate in power, either being able to simply ensnare and subdue opponents, or in their most focused form, cause atomic cancellation in a persons bodydisintegrating them entirely as the field sustaining their atomic and subatomic particles is dissipated. We seem to see some form of that in the new trailer, when Void flattens several fleeing civilians into black smears.Although mostly bonded to Sentry, Void can possess other hosts beyond Robert, too, just as he did when he became part of Knull after Roberts own death. Which means when the Thunderbolts go up against him this May, not even killing poor Bob outright might be able to stop one of the Marvel Comics universes deadliest threats. Want more io9 news? We decided to restore this wood, preserving its history. In the social and wet areas, the previous renovation had replaced the original floors with ceramic tiles that didnt enhance the property. For these spaces, we opted for black hydraulic tiles. This choice carries an emotional significance while also referencing residential buildings in Braslia that feature black floors in their pilotis. Deforestation and habitat loss is forcing more monkeys to migrate into towns and cities. On Sunday at around 11:00 local time (12:30 AM EST), a nationwide blackout forced its 22 million residents to either turn to personal generators, or endure the latest outage while temperatures rose to 86 degrees Fahrenheit. According to the Sri Lankan newspaperThe Daily Mirror, engineers soon traced the issue to the Panadura Power Station in the town of Colombo. Once on the scene, multiple witnesses including a security guard reported hearing a loud explosion accompanied by a ball of fire at the station. A subsequent investigation at the facility quickly confirmed the culprit.A monkey has come into contact with our grid transformer, causing an imbalance in the system, Kumara Jayakody, Sri Lankas Energy Minister, told local reporters yesterday.Although power has since been restored across the country, the hourslong emergency highlighted the energy grids ongoing unreliability. In 2022, Sri Lanka experienced multiple widespread blackouts during the nations economic crisis, and continues to face regular power shortages. Sri Lankas main source of energy production comes from hydropower, but it still often relies on coal and oil, as well. This has proven particularly problematic since the 2022 crisis, when the country used the entirety of its two fossil fuel reserves. Although Sri Lanka now has a supplementary 1,000 megawatt solar energy system, those panels are not directly connected to the islands primary grid.The government continues to explore potential energy grid deals with India, as well as plans to construct a new, larger hydropower plant to boost energy availability.
