  • What Are Apple's Mail Categories and How to Turn Them Off on iPhone
    www.cnet.com
Apple releasediOS 18.3in January, and that update brought somebug fixesto your iPhone. But when Apple released iOS 18.2 in December, it brought a handful of Apple Intelligence features, like Genmoji and Image Playground, to people with the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max or a device from the iPhone 16 lineup. That update also introduced Mail Categories to every iPhone."Mail Categorization sorts your messages to help you prioritize the most important messages," Apple wrote in iOS 18.2's release notes. But if you don't like how Categories work in Mail, no worries -- you can revert your app to look the way it did before the update.Read more: Everything You Need to Know About iOS 18Here's what you need to know about Mail Categories and how to remove the categories so your app looks like it did before the update. What are Mail Categories?Categories in Mail are similar to categories you would find in Gmail. The app filters your emails into one of four categories: Primary, Transactions, Updates and Promotions. Apple/Screenshot by CNETEmails with receipts, as well as order and delivery information fill the Transactions category, and news, social and other subscription emails go to Updates. Emails with special offers and deals go to Promotions, as you might imagine. The Primary category is a little more difficult to pin down. Apple writes in the app that Primary is for "Messages that matter most." I've used the redesigned app since it launched in beta, and in that time my Primary category was filled with emails from my wife, customer service and even refund information. It's a little bit of a catch-all category. Can I change an email's category? You can for most messages but not all. Here's how.1. Tap Mail.2. Tap either Transactions, Updates or Promotions tabs across the top of Mail -- but not Primary -- and tap a message.3. Tap the three dots (...) in the top right corner.4. Tap Categorization. Then you can manually categorize messages from a given sender to another category. Unfortunately, all messages from a sender will go to the new category, which could be irksome.Once, I ordered tickets for a show at a local theater, and the email was filtered to Promotions. I moved the email with those tickets to Primary, but now all emails from this theater -- including deals and sales -- go to my Primary category. Not being able to change that categorization back is annoying. It's important to note that you can recategorize an email from Promotions to Deals and then back to Promotions without issue. The only emails that can't be recategorized are those in Primary. How do I get rid of categories in Mail? Apple/Screenshot by CNETIf you don't like Mail Categories, you can remove them so Mail looks like it did before the update. Here's how.1. Tap Mail.2. Tap the three dots (...) in the top right corner of the app.3. Tap List View. Now your emails will populate in Mail from top to bottom as they arrive in your inbox. For more on iOS 18, here's what you need to know aboutiOS 18.3andiOS 18.2. • The Sooner You Lock in Your APY, the More You Could Earn. Today's CD Rates, Feb. 12, 2025
    www.cnet.com
Key takeaways Today's top CDs earn up to 4.65% APY.Experts expect the Fed will cut rates later this year.Locking in your APY now can help you maximize your earnings and shield your returns from future rate drops. Want to earn a guaranteed return on your savings? A certificate of deposit can be a great way to do it. CDs offer a fixed rate in exchange for keeping your money in the account for the full term. And with rates more than twice the national average right now, today's best CDs can help you grow your funds faster. You can currently earn up to 4.65% annual percentage yield, or APY, with the top banks we track at CNET. Here are some of the highest CD rates and how much you could earn by depositing $5,000.Today's best CD rates Term Highest APY*BankEstimated earnings6 months 4.65%CommunityWide Federal Credit Union$114.931 year 4.45%CommunityWide Federal Credit Union$222.503 years 4.15%America First Credit Union$648.695 years 4.25%America First Credit Union$1,156.73 Experts recommend comparing rates before opening a CD account to get the best APY possible. Enter your information below to get CNET's partners' best rate for your area. How you'll benefit from opening a CD todayThe Federal Open Market Committee meets eight times a year to set the federal funds rate based on the health of the US economy. The Fed may raise interest rates to try to slow down inflation or lower them to stimulate spending. After cutting interest rates in 2024, the Fed paused rates at its January meeting amid signs that inflation was inching back up again. While the Fed doesn't directly set CD rates, banks generally set APYs according to the federal funds rate. CDs offer a fixed rate for a set period of time, so locking in a higher rate now can help protect your earnings if the Fed decides to lower interest rates in coming months, as experts expect it will. But you should be careful to choose a term that fits when you'll need to access your money. If you have to cash out the CD before it matures, you could be hit with early withdrawal fees."Going with the highest APY makes a lot of sense, although you'll want to make sure you pick a maturity date that aligns with your situation," said Keith Spencer, CFP, founder and financial planner at Spencer Financial Planning. You can earn up to 5% APY on the best high-yield savings accounts. Check out today's top savings rates.Average CD rates from week to week Term Last week's CNET average APYThis week's CNET average APYWeekly change**6 months 4.10%4.09%-0.24%1 year 4.07%4.08%+0.25%3 years 3.55%3.56%+0.28%5 years 3.56%3.56%No change Weigh these factors when comparing CDsA competitive APY is important, but it's not the only thing you should consider. To find the right CD for you, weigh these things, too:When you'll need your money: Early withdrawal penalties on CDs can eat into your interest earnings if you need your money before the term ends, so choose a timeline that makes sense. Alternatively, you can select a no-penalty CD, although the APY may not be as high as you'd get with a traditional CD of the same term.Minimum deposit requirement: Some CDs require a minimum deposit to open an account, typically $500 to $1,000. Knowing how much money you have to set aside can help you narrow your options.Fees: Maintenance and other fees can cut into your savings. Many online banks don't charge fees because they have lower overhead costs than banks with physical branches. Read the fine print for any account you're evaluating.Safety and security: Make sure the bank or credit union you're considering is an FDIC or NCUA member so your money is protected if the bank fails.Customer ratings and reviews: Visit sites like Trustpilot to see what customers are saying about the bank. You want a bank that's responsive, professional and easy to work with.MethodologyCNET reviews CD rates based on the latest APY information from issuer websites. Mortal Kombat 2 film poster reveals first look at Karl Urban's Johnny CageUncaged fury.Image credit: Netherrealm News by Ed Nightingale Deputy News Editor Published on Feb. 12, 2025 A new film poster for Mortal Kombat 2 has been released, giving a first look at Karl Urban's Johnny Cage."Uncaged fury" reads the poster, with Urban posing as Cage wearing iconic shades in front of an explosive background. The release date is still listed as "coming soon", though as previously reported the film is expected to arrive in October this year.Mortal Kombat 1 Official Jean-Claude Van Damme TrailerWatch on YouTubeThe film will be a direct sequel to 2021's Mortal Kombat, a film Eurogamer described as "boring". It begins with a pair of ninjas who go on to become Sub-Zero and Scorpion, but the story ultimately focuses on a brand new character: Cole Young (Lewis Tan).To see this content please enable targeting cookies. The sequel, then, will add Urban as Cage as well as Adeline Rudolph as Princess Kitana. Rudolph previously starred in Netflix's Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and 2022 Resident Evil TV series, led by Lance Reddick.Rudolph's Sabrina co-star Tati Gabrielle (Uncharted, The Last of Us Season Two) will also star as Kitana's bodyguard Jade.Urban, of course, played omer in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, as well as the likes of Leonard McCoy in the Star Trek reboot films, Judge Dredd in Dredd, and Billy Butcher in TV series The Boys.Hopefully the inclusion of more iconic characters in this new film will boost its credibility with fans.Fittingly, Johnny Cage is an action film star turned fighter, originally inspired by Jean-Claude Van Damme - who then voiced the character in 2023's Mortal Kombat 1 game. That explains the motorbikes in the film poster.Eurogamer described Mortal Kombat 1 as a "false start in the race for reinvention" in our review. It's since received multiple updates with additional characters.

  • Atomfall dev praises Baldurs Gate 3s maximal approach to storytelling, but says that route is not available to everyone

Rest assured, all imagery and advice is unique and original. Check out how we test and review games here Contents hide The team behind Atomfall, the upcoming open-world, post-apocalyptic adventure from Rebellion, are certainly not afraid of a challenge. The game, which has made headlines for its intuitive lead system, is set to release on March 27 and looks to push the envelope when it comes to player freedom. We didnt want the player to be told what to do the whole time as theyre investigating, said Atomfalls lead designer Ben Fisher lead designer, who was speaking on the latest episode of the VideoGamer podcast. We wanted them to feel more like a detective and have more of a sense of open freedom. To help ground this sense of player independence and autonomy, Rebellion has ditched the traditional quest system in favour of a system that is similar but different aiming to gently guide or suggest the player through the world. You have to find your objective as you explore the game world, because there are characters that may or may not want you to do something, Fisher explains. However, having such an unscripted system does pose challenges when wanting to create narrative arcs. Save Up to $1,200 on the Samsung Galaxy S25! Pre-order now and save big with trade-in and Samsung credit. Limited time only! *Includes trade-in value + $300 Samsung credit. Weve done it the Rebellion wayIts easier to choreograph an emotional experience for the player if youre sending them through an act sequence thats not the only way to tell a story, and leaving things much more open makes it hard to tell stories that have that overall arc. So, if you like at something like Baldurs Gate, they did it the expensive way, they did it the maximal way and the route they took is excellent, but that route isnt available to everyone. So, were yet to see if the approach we have taken works but weve done it in a very Rebellion way so the player character doesnt have a story thats imposed upon them but instead there are lots of smaller narratives or characters you interact with in the world. Must-Listen: Publishing Manor Lords w/ Joe Robinson VideoGamer Podcast Listen Now If you like at something like Baldurs Gate, they did it the expensive way, they did it the maximal way and the route they took is excellent. REBELLIONS Ben FisherWhile at first glance its easy to look at Atomfalls post-nuclear backdrop and draw comparisons to the likes of Fallout and Stalker, its actually set five years after the 1957 Windscale nuclear disaster in Northern England, which is still regarded as one of the worst in history. Stalker fans should immediately feel right at home in Atomfall, with an enture Quarantine Zone to explore, ruined houses to ransack and items to craft. Were in the very, very, very final polish phase the Day 0 patch worked, said Fisher. So weve got a solid build but its only once youve got a solid build that you really start to fine tune and tweak those little details. For a deeper look at Atomfalls development, read our Making Of article right here. Whether its Black Ops or Modern Warfare, the two series that form the majority of Activisions library have dominated the charts thanks to their modern-day, near-futuristic, or historical settings.Despite the Black Ops 6 cycle being in full swing, fans of Modern Warfare are continuing to load into 2023s Modern Warfare 3 developed by Sledgehammer Games. The two games mentioned above are available as part of the hugely popular Xbox Game Pass. In addition to the two most recent releases, the best Call of Duty ever made is expected to join the subscription service.2009s Modern Warfare 2 is on its way to Game PassFirst reported by Xbox Era, 2009s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is due to arrive on Game Pass in March or April this year. Born AgainDexter: Resurrection continues to build an impressive cast with a Game of Thrones alum, and it sounds like he's almost guaranteed to be killed offThe character is a billionaire, it's a shoo-in, no?Image credit: Showtime/ Warner Bros News by Oisin Kuhnke Contributor Published on Feb. 12, 2025 The cast of Dexter: Resurrection is looking more and more impressive, as now Game of Thrones' own Peter Dinklage joins the cast.It was just reported last month that the iconic Uma Thurman, best known for her role in Kill Bill, had joined the cast of Dexter sequel series Resurrection, and now, as reported by Deadline, another big name has joined the cast: Peter Dinklage. You'll obviously best know Dinklage for his time on Game of Thrones as Tyrion Lannister, but he's also appeared in films like X-Men: Days of Future Past, and Avengers: Infinity War, as well as, if impermanently, the original Destiny. An official synopsis for Dexter: Resurrection hasn't been revealed yet, but Deadline was able to share some details about Dinklage's character. To see this content please enable targeting cookies. Dinklage will apparently be playing Leon Prater, who Deadline describes as "a billionaire venture capitalist. To the world, Leon is a generous philanthropist, but behind his polished exterior lies dark intrigue." It's also believed that Dinklage will be the main antagonist for the season, and if you ask me, all of that sounds like a recipe for Dexter ending up killing the guy. Whether he's successful or not, well, we'll see. This isn't the first we've heard about the character either, as Thurman's character Charley is the head of security of Leon Prater, previously described as a "former Special Ops officer, Charley worked various high-level private security jobs before taking on her position as the resourceful and meticulous right-hand woman for Prater." Thurman and Dinklage seem like a really great pairing when it comes to casting, so I'll be curious to see how the overall plot shakes out.Michael C. Hall is also set to reprise his role as the titular Dexter, last seen in the 2021 series New Blood, though last heard in the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin where he serves as the narrator for his younger self's escapades.
