• Potential new iPhone 17 Pro camera design shown in 3D renders
    9to5mac.com
The next generation iPhone is expected to arrive later this year, but there are already plenty of rumors about it especially when it comes to design and cameras. Previous rumors have suggested that the iPhone 17 Pro models will have a new rear camera design with a different bump. Now 3D renders shared by Jon Prosser show what the final version of the new phones might look like.Rumored iPhone 17 Pro camera design shown in videoIn a new video on the Front Page Tech channel, Prosser showed renders based on information from his sources. Contrary to what previous renders have shown, Prosser claims that the arrangement of the three lenses on the back of the iPhone will be the same, but that doesnt mean that the design wont change. Instead of a square-shaped bump, the iPhone 17 Pro will have a wide camera bar on the back. The bar shown in the renders is much taller than what weve seen in previous renders. The three lenses are still on the left, while the LED flash, microphone, and LiDAR sensor are now on the right. Previous renders suggested that the three lenses would be aligned horizontally.A recent leak revealed a potential back part of the rumored iPhone 17 Air, which has a wide rear bar for the camera that extends from one side of the phone to the other.Prosser also says that previous reports misinterpreted the rumors about the back of the phone having a two-tone appearance. According to him, the back of the iPhone 17 Pro will still have a single shade of color, but the camera bar will have a much darker tone. Sources also told him that the iPhone 17 Pro will be lighter than current models.Of course, its always important to take these rumors with a grain of salt. While Prosser has shared correct information about upcoming Apple products in the past, he has also shown alleged renders of products such as a new Mac mini and iPhone 14 that turned out to be wrong.Even so, all the rumors suggest that Apple is definitely considering some changes to how the iPhones rear camera looks. Whether it will be horizontally aligned or keep the current arrangement with a large wide bar, we dont know for sure. Well probably have to wait a bit more until we see things like the first cases made for the iPhone 17 lineup. But what about you? Which rumored design do you prefer? • PostgreSQL Vulnerability Exploited Alongside BeyondTrust Zero-Day in Targeted Attacks
    thehackernews.com
Feb 14, 2025Ravie LakshmananZero-Day / VulnerabilityThreat actors who were behind the exploitation of a zero-day vulnerability in BeyondTrust Privileged Remote Access (PRA) and Remote Support (RS) products in December 2024 likely also exploited a previously unknown SQL injection flaw in PostgreSQL, according to findings from Rapid7.The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2025-1094 (CVSS score: 8.1), affects the PostgreSQL interactive tool psql."An attacker who can generate a SQL injection via CVE-2025-1094 can then achieve arbitrary code execution (ACE) by leveraging the interactive tool's ability to run meta-commands," security researcher Stephen Fewer said. The cybersecurity company further noted that it made the discovery as part of its investigation into CVE-2024-12356, a recently patched security flaw in BeyondTrust software that allows for unauthenticated remote code execution.Specifically, it found that "a successful exploit for CVE-2024-12356 had to include exploitation of CVE-2025-1094 in order to achieve remote code execution."In a coordinated disclosure, the maintainers of PostgreSQL released an update to address the problem in the following versions -PostgreSQL 17 (Fixed in 17.3)PostgreSQL 16 (Fixed in 16.7)PostgreSQL 15 (Fixed in 15.11)PostgreSQL 14 (Fixed in 14.16)PostgreSQL 13 (Fixed in 13.19)The vulnerability stems from how PostgreSQL handles invalid UTF-8 characters, thus opening the door to a scenario where an attacker could exploit an SQL injection by making use of a shortcut command "\!", which enables shell command execution. "An attacker can leverage CVE-2025-1094 to perform this meta-command, thus controlling the operating system shell command that is executed," Fewer said. "Alternatively, an attacker who can generate a SQL injection via CVE-2025-1094 can execute arbitrary attacker-controlled SQL statements."The development comes as the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) added a security flaw impacting SimpleHelp remote support software (CVE-2024-57727, CVSS score: 7.5) to the Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog, requiring federal agencies to apply the fixes by March 6, 2025.Found this article interesting? The scheme seeks to adapt the Grade II-listed care home to contemporary needs, incorporating new independent residences and expanded communal spaces. The proposals include approximately 450sqm of covered courtyards and eight independent residences, designed to integrate with the landscape and incorporate tree planting. The covered courtyards are intended to provide heated communal areas for the 50 full-care residents, with layouts designed to accommodate social distancing measures. The independent units, featuring two bedrooms, are designed to offer residents the option of close care while allowing space for partners or family members to stay. The scheme incorporates sustainability measures, including south-facing roof slopes with photovoltaics, air source heat pumps, and a fabric-first approach. The residences are designed to meet zero-carbon standards without offsets, a condition of planning consent from London Borough of Hounslow. Flood mitigation measures exceeding Building Regulations requirements have also been incorporated.Source: Paul Vick ArchitectsAerial viewArchitect Paul Vick stated: In particular, the curved, communal pavilion facade aims to make a fluid sense of inside and outside, with trees at its shared centre, redefining the circular idea of a traditionally internalised Chapter House and its meeting function. The analogy draws on St Marys historic origins and ethos of family, where the 19th-century chapel is still used by residents and the remaining nuns.St Marys Convent and Nursing Home was established in 1896 by Mary Jones, a pioneer of professionalised nursing care. She was involved in providing nurses for Florence Nightingale during the Crimean War and played a role in shaping the ward system still in use today. The convents history and architecture form part of the schemes wider heritage context.

  • GPAD gets go-ahead for 13-flat infill scheme in Wembley
    www.bdonline.co.uk
The development includes a 12% BNGas part of its approach to mitigating the loss of green spaceSource: Haze VizSource: Haze VizSource: Haze VizSource: Haze Viz1/4show captionBrent Council has approved plans for a 13-unit residential scheme on a former grass verge in Wembley. The development, designed by GPAD with landscape input from Match, forms part of a wider urban infill approach within an area originally developed by Barratt Homes in the 1990s.The proposal seeks to optimise the use of underutilised land while incorporating sustainability measures, including a 12% Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and an Urban Greening Factor of 0.78. These elements were presented as key factors in addressing concerns over the loss of existing green space. The existing site comprises lawned greenspace on the junction between Pellatt Road and Chamberlayne Avenue in Wembley. The building features a series of accessible terraces and balconies across the first, second, and third floors, with planting along the northern edge and active amenity space to the south. A communal roof terrace on the second floor provides residents with informal relaxation areas, including a terraced seating enclave with views to the south and a corner perch overlooking the greenery.Designed to create a sense of enclosure, the spaces are integrated within planting, with sensory species and a mix of deciduous and evergreen shrubs, perennials, and grasses adding texture and seasonal variation.Sustainability features include green roofs, habitat boxes, and pollinator-friendly planting to support urban wildlife. The development also prioritises sustainable drainage, with rain gardens and permeable surfaces designed to mitigate flood risk.According to Match, the scheme has been informed by Metroland and Garden Suburb principles and is intended to offer environmentally responsible homes with super-insulated materials and potential on-site renewables, supporting a more sustainable suburban model. The approved scheme includes an additional storey compared to earlier iterations, following a design review process between pre-application stages. The proposal was supported by planning consultancy MJP Planning.

  • DOGEs Website Is Just One Big X Ad
    www.wired.com
At a press conference in the Oval Office this week, Elon Musk promised the actions of his so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) project would be maximally transparent, thanks to information posted to its website. At the time of his comment, the DOGE website was empty. However, when the site finally came online Thursday morning, it turned out to be little more than a glorified feed of posts from the official DOGE account on Musks own X platform, raising new questions about Musks conflicts of interest in running DOGE.DOGE.gov claims to be an official website of the United States government, but rather than giving detailed breakdowns of the cost savings and efficiencies Musk claims his project is making, the homepage of the site just replicated posts from the DOGE account on X.A WIRED review of the pages source code shows that the promotion of Musks own platform went deeper than replicating the posts on the homepage. The source code shows that the sites canonical tags direct search engines to x.com rather than DOGE.gov.A canonical tag is a snippet of code that tells search engines what the authoritative version of a website is. It is typically used by sites with multiple pages as a search engine optimization tactic, to avoid their search ranking being diluted. In DOGEs case, however, the code is informing search engines that when people search for content found on DOGE.gov, they should not show those pages in search results, but should instead display the posts on X.It is promoting the X account as the main source, with the website secondary, Declan Chidlow, a web developer, tells WIRED. This isn't usually how things are handled, and it indicates that the X account is taking priority over the actual website itself. All the other US government websites WIRED checked used their own homepage in their canonical tags, including the official White House website. Additionally, when sharing the DOGE website on mobile devices, the source code creates a link to the DOGE X account rather than the website itself. It seems that the DOGE website is secondary, and they are prodding people in the direction of the X account everywhere they can, Chidlow adds.Alongside the homepage feed of X posts, a section of Doge.gov labeled Savings now appears. So far the page is empty except for a single line that reads: Receipts coming soon, no later than Valentine's day, followed by a heart emoji.A section entitled Workforce features some bar charts showing how many people work in each government agency, with the information coming from data gathered by the Office of Personnel Management in March 2024.A disclaimer at the bottom of the page reads: This is DOGE's effort to create a comprehensive, government-wide org chart. This is an enormous effort, and there are likely some errors or omissions. We will continue to strive for maximum accuracy over time.Another section, entitled Regulations, features what DOGE calls the Unconstitutionality Index, which it describes as the number of agency rules created by unelected bureaucrats for each law passed by Congress in 2024.

  • 4 Game-Changing Quantum Computer Types That Could Transform Everything
    www.forbes.com
Dive into the fascinating world of quantum computing as we explore the four major types of quantum ... [+] computers reshaping our technological future.Adobe StockQuantum computing is shaping up to be among the most transformative technologies of our era. While still in their infancy, these powerful machines are expected to help us solve many problems by accelerating the speed at which we can process certain types of data by a factor of hundreds of millions. But not all quantum computers are the same. Researchers are working on many different ways to apply principles of quantum mechanics to computing technology. This has led to a variety of methods, architectures and paradigms, all suited for different use cases or tasks. So here Ill overview some of the different categories, giving a brief explanation of what makes each one unique and what its hoped they will achieve.First, What Is Quantum Computing?Just in case youre completely new to the topic quantum computing refers to a new approach to computing that harnesses some of the strange and powerful properties of quantum mechanics, such as entanglement and superposition. Instead of using traditional bits (ones and zeros) like a classical computer, quantum computers use qubits that are spookily able to exist in more than one state simultaneously. This means they can potentially solve some very complex mathematical problems, such as those involving optimization problems or simulating complex real-world systems like molecular physics far faster than existing computers.MORE FOR YOUSo What Are The Different Types Of Quantum Computers?Several distinct quantum computing methodologies have emerged, each leveraging quantum properties in different ways, making them suitable for carrying out different types of computation. Heres an overview of some of the most popular:Quantum AnnealingThis is a quantum computing methodology thats particularly well-suited to solving optimization problems. These are computations that require finding the best combination of a large number of variables. It can be of use in real-world scenarios ranging from planning the most efficient route for multi-drop delivery drivers to optimizing stock portfolios. D-Wave is recognized as a leader in this field of quantum computing and has worked with companies, including Volkswagen, to create systems that use annealing methodology to optimize assembly line packaging operations and delivery logistics.Superconducting Quantum ComputersOne of the most mature quantum computing methods involves building circuits from superconductive materials such as niobium or aluminum, cooled to near absolute zero temperatures. This allows qubits to exist in superposition states of both one and zero simultaneously, where they can be manipulated by microwaves. In simple terms, this lets them carry out computational logic operations (and/or/not etc) in a way that lets them explore multiple possible solutions to a problem in parallel, rather than one at a time. Superconductive quantum computing is being pioneered by companies such as IBM and Google and has real-world applications in drug discovery, artificial intelligence, and encryption.Trapped Ion Quantum ComputersThis involves using positively charged atoms (ions) trapped and held within a 3D space in a way that entirely isolates it from the outside world. This means that it can be held in its superposition state for a very long time rather than decohering into one or zero. Lasers are used to switch the ions between different states as required for calculations, as well as to retrieve the information that forms the answer to the question that needs to be solved. Leaders in this field of quantum computing include IonQ, which has worked with the United States Air Force to create secure quantum networking technology for communicating between drones and ground stations.Photonic Quantum ComputersThis involves harnessing photons, which are light waves, and manipulating them using optical components like beam splitters, lenses and mirrors. Having no mass, light waves are not affected by temperature. This means that photonic quantum computing doesnt require super-low temperatures and a specially configured environment. Another benefit of being light beams is that the qubits encoded in photons can maintain their coherence over relatively long distances. Real-world applications for it have been found in quantum cryptography and communications, and leaders in the field include Xanadu.Where Next For Quantum?Although real-world use cases for quantum computing are increasing, much of the work in the field is still purely hypothetical, and various other methods are under development in labs and academic institutions.Other research is focused on reducing the error rate of quantum computing caused by the delicate nature of qubits held in a quantum state. Its also worth noting that most quantum computing taking place today involves a hybrid model of quantum and classical methodologies. As research and development continue, there's no doubt well start to see more breakthroughs in the journey towards practical, scalable and useful quantum computing.
