OpenAI countersues Elon Musk to stop his attacks and ‘fake takeover bid’
OpenAI filed a countersuit against Elon Musk on Wednesday, saying on X that “Elon’s nonstop actions against us are just bad-faith tactics to slow down OpenAI and seize control of the leading AI innovations for his personal benefit.” In the lawsuit, OpenAI’s lawyers argue that “Musk’s continued attacks on OpenAI, culminating most recently in the fake takeover bid designed to disrupt OpenAI’s future, must cease. Musk should be enjoined from further unlawful and unfair action, and held responsible for the damage he has already caused.” Musk, who was part of the initial founding team at OpenAI, initially sued last spring,  saying he wanted to force the company to “return to its mission to develop AGI for the benefit of humanity” instead of pursuing profits. (The Verge’s editor-in-chief, Nilay Patel, found Musk’s legal case against OpenAI “hilariously bad.”) Musk dropped that lawsuit in June but sued OpenAI again in August. In December, OpenAI published a blog post with the headline “Elon Musk wanted an OpenAI for-profit,” with receipts. The case is scheduled to go to trial in the spring of 2026. Earlier this year, Musk also offered $97.4 billion to buy OpenAI, saying in a statement that “it’s time for OpenAI to return to the open-source, safety-focused force for good it once was.” OpenAI’s board of directors unanimously rejected the offer, which today’s filing called a “sham bid.”  Disclosure: The Verge’s parent company, Vox Media, partners with OpenAI.

Deals for Today: Pokémon Surging Sparks, INIU Chargers, and Fallout Gear
Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet – Surging Sparks Booster Bundle is back in stock at Amazon for $45.02, offering a rare discount on a high-demand set. That’s still above the official MSRP of $26.94 — but compared to the inflated prices on secondary markets, this is the best mainstream option available right now, especially since it ships directly from Amazon (not a third-party seller). The bundle includes six booster packs from the latest Surging Sparks expansion, which has been tough to keep on digital shelves thanks to new chase cards and high collector demand. If you’re building out your set or just looking for a reliable sealed product drop, this is one of the most secure ways to snag it without overpaying.Pokémon TCG Surging Sparks Booster Bundle DiscountedPokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks Booster BundleINIU 140W Power BankFallout - Lucys Vault 33 - Backpack$199.99 at IGN StoreINIU Power Bank, 20000mAh 65WHumble Heroines Game BundleINIU Portable Charger 22.5WINIU Power Bank 100WINIU Portable Charger, Slim 45WMainGear North RTX 5070$2,095.00 at MainGearPokemon TCG: Azure Legends Tin - 5 Packs$29.99 at AmazonHumble Bundle: Earth Defense Force CollectionSanDisk 256GB microSD Express microSD CardPokémon TCG: Shining Fates Collection Pikachu V Box$58.99 at AmazonThe Elder Scrolls Skyrim - Dragonborn Helmet - Replica$119.99 at IGN Store Pokémon TCG: Scarlet and Violet Shrouded Fable Elite Trainer Box$57.98 at AmazonASUS ROG Cetra True Wireless Gaming HeadphonesASUS ROG Harpe Gaming Wireless MouseVampire Hunter D Book BundleASUS ROG Spatha X Wireless Gaming MouseStreet Fighter Trading Cards$20.00 at IGN StoreASUS ROG Falchion NX 65% Wireless RGB Gaming Mechanical KeyboardASUS ROG Strix Scope RX TKL Wireless DeluxeMeanwhile, INIU’s 140W Power Bank is on sale for $74.56 — a solid 25% off its usual $99.99 price. Designed for power users, this 27,000mAh beast can fast-charge everything from a MacBook Pro to an iPhone 15 Pro Max, thanks to its PD 3.1 140W USB-C output and smart digital display. It also features three total ports, letting you charge multiple devices at once, and its compact, airline-approved design makes it ideal for remote work, travel, or gaming on the go. Backed by a three-year warranty and lifetime tech support, this is a reliable investment for anyone tired of running on 5% battery.Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks Booster BundlePokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks Booster BundleI’ve been tracking the Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet – Surging Sparks Booster Bundle for weeks, and while this $45.02 price on Amazon is still above the original MSRP of $26.94, it’s the most reasonable listing I’ve seen that doesn’t involve a sketchy seller or a mystery warehouse. You get six booster packs from the latest set, which is hard enough to find in stores, and I appreciate not having to overpay a reseller just to get in on the new pulls. For anyone trying to keep up with the expansion, this is as straightforward as it gets.INIU 140W Power BankINIU 140W Power BankI think the INIU 140W 27,000mAh Power Bank is the backup battery I actually trust when I know I’ll be away from an outlet for more than a few hours. It’s currently $74.56, which isn’t exactly pocket change, but for something that can charge a MacBook Pro or a Steam Deck without breaking a sweat, I’d say it’s well-priced. The digital display is genuinely useful, and having three ports (two USB-C and one USB-A) makes it easy to keep everything charged without doing the cable shuffle.Fallout - Lucys Vault 33 - BackpackFallout - Lucys Vault 33 - Backpack$199.99 at IGN StoreI don’t usually get excited about merch, but the Fallout – Lucy’s Vault 33 Backpack from the IGN Store actually feels like something I’d use. It’s $199.99, which sounds steep until you realize it’s a legit replica built from the same patterns used on the show. This isn’t a cheap cosplay throw-in, it’s got a full 20L capacity, a 16-inch laptop pocket, and more compartments than I know what to do with. Plus, it comes with that massive yellow fleece blanket for the full Fallout-core vibe. I’m not planning on trekking across a wasteland anytime soon, but it’s good to know the bag is ready just in case.INIU Power Bank, 20000mAh 65WINIU Power Bank, 20000mAh 65WUse on-site coupon for full discountINIU 65W 20,000mAh Power Bank is the one I reach for when I need power without the bulk. It's $39.99 and still strong enough to fast-charge my laptop, but compact enough to throw in a backpack without thinking about it. The extra port flexibility is nice, and the built-in phone stand is one of those small features I didn’t think I’d care about until I started using it constantly. It just does its job well without getting in the way.Humble Heroines Game BundleHumble Heroines Game BundlePay less to get fewer items, or pay extra to give more to publishers, Humble, and charities Girls Who Code and Girl Make Game Scholarship Fund.Humble Heroines: Rebels, Curses, and Mystery bundle is exactly the kind of thing I buy and then spend the next six months working through. For $12, you get seven games including Control: Ultimate Edition, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, Darksiders III, and a few smaller indie gems that deserve the attention. The lineup is solid, the value is obvious, and part of the money goes to Girls Who Code and Girls Make Games, so I don’t even have to justify it to myself. It’s a good excuse to grab some character-driven games that don’t all feel like the same recycled formula.INIU Power Bank 100WINIU Power Bank 100WI picked up the INIU 100W 25,000mAh Power Bank because I wanted one charger that could handle everything without fuss. For $53.98, I get enough power to charge two larger devices at once, thanks to dual USB-C outputs, and it still recharges fast when it’s drained. It’s well-balanced in size and performance, and I haven’t run into overheating or throttling issues even during heavy use. That’s more than I can say for a few others I’ve retired.INIU Portable Charger, Slim 45WINIU Portable Charger, Slim 45WThen there’s the INIU Slim 45W 10,000mAh Power Bank with Built-In USB-C Cable It's currently $22.49, but the real win here is the integrated cable. It charges both the power bank and my phone, which is ideal when I want to carry as little as possible. The compact build doesn’t compromise on speed, and I like that I can toss it in a jacket pocket without it feeling like dead weight. It’s simple, efficient, and takes up no mental space.ASUS ROG Cetra True Wireless Gaming HeadphonesASUS ROG Cetra True Wireless Gaming HeadphonesI’ve tried more wireless earbuds than I care to admit, but the Cetra lineup actually gets it right for gaming. I want latency low enough that my killshots sync with the sound of glory, not a second later. These deliver that, with the added bonus of active noise cancelation that’s good enough to block out my neighbor’s saxophone practice. The 27-hour battery life doesn’t hurt either, especially for marathon gaming sessions — or, let’s be honest, Netflix binges. Wireless charging is just the lazy cherry on top.ASUS ROG Harpe Gaming Wireless MouseASUS ROG Harpe Gaming Wireless MouseThis thing weighs 54 grams. Fifty-four. I’ve had granola bars that were heavier. I think it’s illegal to call something this light a “mouse” without an asterisk. The Harpe’s low-latency tri-mode connection and snappy AimPoint sensor make it feel like an extension of my brain. If you’re the type to tweak DPI mid-match just because you can, this one’s built for you. Also, shout out to ASUS for not naming it something ridiculous like “ShadowFang X69 Ultra.”Vampire Hunter D Book BundleVampire Hunter D Book BundlePay less to get fewer items, or pay extra to give more to publishers, Humble, and charity World Central KitchenHere’s the deal: for less than the price of a mediocre pizza, you get 29 volumes of vampire-fighting, post-apocalyptic drama illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano. I want this bundle just so I can say I finally read the source material instead of quoting the anime like a poser. And since it supports World Central Kitchen, I've checked off my good deed for the day whilst reading about bloodthirsty aristocrats. Win-win.ASUS ROG Spatha X Wireless Gaming MouseASUS ROG Spatha X Wireless Gaming MouseIf the Harpe is the Ferrari of gaming mice, the Spatha is a tank with RGB. I mean, 12 programmable buttons, a magnetic charging stand, and enough battery life to outlast the apocalypse? I think this one’s for the MMO players and spreadsheet warriors who want their macros locked and loaded. The hot-swappable switches are a nice bonus for anyone who treats mice like seasonal accessories.Street Fighter Trading CardsStreet Fighter Trading CardsFrom $20, with the Warriors Dreams Master Case retailing at $960$20.00 at IGN StoreI grew up spamming Hadoukens, and now I can channel that energy into shiny cardboard form. I want the Collector Box because ripping open packs and chasing rare inserts scratches an itch I didn’t know I had. But if you’re a “go big or go home” kind of collector, the Inner Case ($240) or Master Case ($960) options are basically loot crates for adults — minus the digital regret.ASUS ROG Falchion NX 65% Wireless RGB Gaming Mechanical KeyboardASUS ROG Falchion NX 65% Wireless RGB Gaming Mechanical KeyboardI don’t always want a full keyboard taking up half my desk. The Falchion understands that. It's compact, mechanical, and still manages to squeeze in arrow keys and a weirdly satisfying touch panel for volume and macros. I love that it’s wireless but still offers USB-C when I’m feeling traditional. Bonus points for the cover case—it makes me feel like I’m carrying a fancy typewriter to a LAN party.ASUS ROG Strix Scope RX TKL Wireless DeluxeASUS ROG Strix Scope RX TKL Wireless DeluxeThis one’s a mouthful in name and a handful in features. I think this keyboard is perfect for anyone who wants their setup to scream “I game and I have taste.” The wrist rest is plush, the switches are fast and precise, and the tri-mode connection lets me hop from work laptop to gaming rig like some sort of digital nomad. It’s absurdly overbuilt, and I kind of respect that.MainGear North RTX 5070MainGear North RTX 5070$2,095.00 at MainGearI think this is one of the smartest ways to get your hands on an RTX 5070 without building from scratch or skimping on quality. MAINGEAR’s setup skips all the common bottlenecks — no mismatched parts, no airflow nightmares, no “good enough” corners cut. For $2,095, you’re getting a clean combo of a Ryzen 5 7600X CPU, 16GB of DDR5 RGB RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD, all assembled by people who care about things like cable management. It’s future-ready, quiet, and fast enough to leave your current rig feeling like a potato in comparison.Pokemon TCG: Azure Legends Tin - 5 PacksPokemon TCG: Azure Legends Tin - 5 Packs$29.99 at AmazonThis tin is pure Pokémon chaos in the best way. You get one random promo card—Kyogre ex, Xerneas ex, or Dialga ex—and five booster packs; 2 x Surging Sparks, 1 x Stellar Crown, 1 x Temporal Forces and 1 x Obsidian Flames. It’s a fun, low-stakes gamble for collectors or casual players who want a shot at good pulls without needing to take out a second mortgage.Humble Bundle: Earth Defense Force CollectionHumble Bundle: Earth Defense Force CollectionPay less to get fewer items, or pay extra to give more to publishers, Humble, and charity Oceana.EDF is the kind of game where logic goes out the window and fun takes over, and this $25 Humble Bundle gives you the best of it — EDF 5, EDF 4, World Brothers 2, plus a ton of downloadable content. I think this is worth it just for the laugh-out-loud co-op mayhem alone, and it doesn’t hurt that part of the proceeds go to charity while you blast oversized bugs into space.SanDisk 256GB microSD Express microSD CardSanDisk 256GB microSD Express microSD CardIf your current microSD card loads like it's on a coffee break, or if you need to expand your Nintendo Switch 2 storage on launch day, this one’s a serious upgrade. I want this SanDisk Express card purely for the ridiculous transfer speeds — up to 880MB/s read and 650MB/s write. It’s built for 4K video, gaming, and surviving every possible disaster short of lava, and it’ll likely outlive every other accessory in your bag.Pokémon TCG: Shining Fates Collection Pikachu V BoxPokémon TCG: Shining Fates Collection Pikachu V Box$58.99 at AmazonThe Shining Fates Pikachu V Box is a great grab if you’re chasing shiny cards or just really into oversized electric rodents. You get a Pikachu V promo, a jumbo card version for display, and four Shining Fates booster packs. It's pricey, but Shining Fates is out of print. The Elder Scrolls Skyrim - Dragonborn Helmet - ReplicaThe Elder Scrolls Skyrim - Dragonborn Helmet - ReplicaPre-order for September release$119.99 at IGN StoreThis Skyrim Dragonborn helmet replica isn’t going to protect you in battle, but it will absolutely level up your desk setup. At just under six inches tall, it’s small enough to display but detailed enough to show off. I think it’s a solid collectible if you’re still emotionally tethered to Skyrim and have no shame in displaying that fact proudly. Pokémon TCG: Scarlet and Violet Shrouded Fable Elite Trainer Box Pokémon TCG: Scarlet and Violet Shrouded Fable Elite Trainer Box$57.98 at AmazonThis Shrouded Fable ETB is the kind of set that makes you feel like you’ve got your TCG life together. It comes with nine booster packs, a Pecharunt promo, energy cards, dice, and a nice little collector’s box to keep your chaos organized. Shrouded Fable is a slept on set, perfect for trainers who are sick of chasing Journey Together and Prismatic Evolutions stock. Why Should You Trust IGN's Deals Team?IGN's deals team has a combined 30+ years of experience finding the best discounts in gaming, tech, and just about every other category. Father Whose Daughter Died From Measles Says RFK Jr. Never Even Mentioned the Vaccine
Two-FacedApr 9, 4:24 PM EDT / by Noor Al-SibaiFather Whose Daughter Died From Measles Says RFK Jr. Never Even Mentioned the Vaccine"I had supper with the guy... and he never said anything about that."Apr 9, 4:24 PM EDT / Noor Al-SibaiImage by Niall Carson/PA Images via Getty / FuturismIn public, Donald Trump's health czar Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. has become a surprise vaccine advocate amid the growing measles outbreak. His private comments, however, betray his conspiratorial leanings.Following the funeral for eight-year-old Daisy Hildebrand — the second known child to die from measles complications in Texas, the heart of the outbreak — the girl's father told The Guardian that the anti-vaxxer now running America's healthcare seemed to fall down on the job when he came to pay his respects."He did not say that the vaccine was effective," Pete Hildebrand, the father of the unvaccinated girl, told the newspaper of the Health and Human Services secretary. "I had supper with the guy... and he never said anything about that."Despite his public change of heart regarding the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine, it's not exactly shocking that Kennedy is privately talking out of both sides of his mouth.Soon after the outbreak of the previously-contained respiratory virus claimed its first life — an unvaccinated six-year-old Mennonite girl who, like Hildebrand, died in West Texas' Gaines County — the brain-wormed political scion not only touted natural treatments over vaccination, but also suggested that immunity was better gained by simply allowing children to get the measles."It used to be, when you and I were kids, that everybody got measles. And the measles gave you lifetime protection against measles infection," Kennedy told Fox News host Sean Hannity during a March interview. "The vaccine doesn’t do that. The vaccine is effective for some people for life, but for many people it wanes."That claim, it's worth noting, is undercut by strong evidence that catching measles weakens a child's immune system so significantly that they may become more susceptible to getting sicker from other illnesses down the line.Like with that first measles death, Kennedy once again sent mixed messages about measles prevention and treatment. Though he reupped his public endorsement of the MMR vaccine, the health secretary and alleged former drug dealer also touted the work, as the Daily Beast reports, of two shady "healers": Ben Edwards, a local antivaxxer who runs a so-called "wellness clinic," and Richard Bartlett, an infamous doctor who was once videotaped digging through hospital trash and who used to misprescribe medications so severely that he was barred from practicing medicine in Texas for two years.Worse, he used a lengthy X post about a Texas toddler who'd survived measles to promote the pair — and once again, there was nary a mention of vaccines in that missive.Regardless of what he says in public, it's clear that Kennedy's antivax bona fides have a home in West Texas. Unfortunately, that includes the father of the latest girl to die from measles."I know [the vaccine is] not effective because some family members ended up getting the vaccine, and they got the measles way worse than some of my kids," Hildebrand told the Guardian after his daughter Daisy's funeral. "The vaccine was not effective."Share This ArticleImage by Niall Carson/PA Images via Getty / FuturismRead This Next

Trump Freezes Cornell Funding, Compromises U.S. Military Safety
April 9, 20253 min readTrump’s Cornell Funding Freeze Could Make U.S. Troops Less SafeCornell is being slammed with stop-work orders that will seriously impact department of defense research linked to the Air Force and military safety, sources tell Scientific AmericanBy Stephanie Pappas edited by Jeanna BrynerCornell’s Electron Storage Ring (CESR) is a particle accelerator that is used as an x-ray source for the Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source. Cornell Wilson Wilson Synchrotron LabCornell University has been slammed with stop-work orders on more than 75 Department of Defense grants that support research into robotics, superconductors and military safety, university officials said on Tuesday.Among the affected projects is a joint research effort between the Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source (CHESS) and the Air Force Research Lab, Scientific American has learned. How are funding freezes impacting universities? On supporting science journalismIf you're enjoying this article, consider supporting our award-winning journalism by subscribing. By purchasing a subscription you are helping to ensure the future of impactful stories about the discoveries and ideas shaping our world today. The freeze placed on these grants is part of a pattern of stop-work orders and threats to withhold funding that the federal government has issued to several universities over campus protests and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts. The New York Times reported that the Cornell grant freeze has gone far beyond DOD funding and has affected grants from the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Health and Human Services. The university is being investigated by the Department of Education for allegations of antisemitism related to pro-Palestinian protests and of DEI efforts that the administration considers discriminatory. Cornell is one of 60 universities put on a list by the education department in March. Northwestern University was also subject to a funding freeze on Tuesday, according to the university’s student newspaper.Previously, Columbia University agreed to review its admissions procedures, ban face masks for the purpose of concealing one’s identity on campus and put its department of Middle Eastern, South Asian and African studies under a receivership, which is supervision from an authority outside the department, among other concessions. What Cornell research is impacted by the new funding freeze? In a recent statement, Cornell leaders said the grants affected “research into new materials for jet engines, propulsion systems, large-scale information networks, robotics, superconductors, and space and satellite communications, as well as cancer research—work of significance for our national defense, the competitiveness of our economy, and the health of our citizens.” A spokesperson for the university declined to offer further detail.Scientists with knowledge of CHESS, however, said that the frozen funding includes monay from the Air Force Research Laboratory for the Materials Solutions Network at CHESS (MSN-C), a pair of x-ray stations that analyze metals and polymers used in military aircraft, electronics and armor plating. These DOD projects will pause under the stop-work order. The high-energy, high-intensity x-rays produced by Cornell’s synchrotron can only be made in a few facilities around the world. That means the move could significantly affect the U.S. military’s ability to design and test new materials. The beam is also used to investigate unexplained failures in materials that are already in use in planes and other military equipment. The agreement between CHESS and the Air Force Research Laboratory meant that the Department of Defense had priority for projects most crucial to its needs, such as finding ways to manufacture safe but ultra-light airplane parts or ways to 3D print components for replacement parts on far-flung bases or even from sea.In addition, the Air Force funding for MSN-C supported a large portion of CHESS’s core operating expenses, which means the facility will not be able to begin any new non-DOD projects, sources told Scientific American. What comes next?In its recent statement, Cornell’s administration said it was actively seeking to learn more about the basis for the funding freeze from federal officials. University officials at Cornell will likely be watching Columbia’s example: though the latter university agreed to many of the Trump administration’s demands on March 21, and Secretary of Education Linda McMahon told CNN Columbia was “on the right track” to restore its federal funding on March 23, the university is now facing deeper cuts. Science Magazine reported today that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will now stop all funding to the university, including for existing grants. In 2024, according to Science, Columbia received $690 million from the NIH.

What do you mean Hori’s Piranha Plant Nintendo Switch 2 camera is 480p in 2025?
You can trust VideoGamer. Our team of gaming experts spend hours testing and reviewing the latest games, to ensure you're reading the most comprehensive guide possible. Rest assured, all imagery and advice is unique and original. Check out how we test and review games here Now that the Nintendo Switch 2 has been truly revealed with almost-full specs, a list of exciting new games and features like the Discord-esque GameChat, third-party hardware companies are crawling out of the woodwork with their own takes on official Switch 2 hardware. At the cream of the crop, Hori’s Piranha Plant Camera for Nintendo Switch 2 was a standout device just after the console’s big reveal. However, now that the dust has settled and its real specs have released, we can firmly ask: what do you mean the Hori Pirahna Plant Nintendo Switch 2 camera is only 480P? Yep, despite being a USB-C camera that is releasing in the Year of our Lord 2025, the new third-party Switch 2 camera is only 480P. Yeah, 640×480 for a total of 307,200 pixels. Nintendo’s official Nintendo Switch 2 camera is a full 1080p which, let’s face it, is surprisingly competent for a Nintendo product. Let’s be as fair as we possibly can, the Hori Piranha Plant Nintendo Switch 2 camera is cheap. At a price of just £33.99, or your regional equivalent, it is a little cheaper than the £49.99 official option. However, for 67% of the price, you’re getting just 14% of the pixels, and that’s pretty damn crap. Goddamn, it is cute though. When’s the last time you even saw a 480p camera on sale in 2025? Having a gander over on Amazon there are certainly options for just a few quid, but nothing as expensive as £33.99. Although, they don’t come in a cutesy Piranha Plant shell…. At the end of the day, kids are going to see the Hori camera option on the shelves of GameStop or wherever you actually buy gaming accessories in a store anymore, and they’re getting a bum deal. (Is that the term?) While the official Nintendo option looks surprisingly boring for the company that made the ugly 2DS, we’d suggest anyone who wants a Switch 2 Camera to not buy the awesome-looking Piranha Plant option. We’re big fans of wet-dry vacuums that can pick up everything from spilled milk to coffee grounds without any leftover residue on our floors. What’s more, you won’t have to wait until Black Friday to score one at an affordable price. We found some of our favorites for as low as $100 right now.Photo: Terri WilliamsBissell CrossWave Omni Force Wet-Dry VacuumThink of the Bissell CrossWave OmniForce as a two-in-one wet-dry vacuum. You can use it as a vacuum and mop or as a regular vacuum, which is then amped up for 75% more suction. Williams, who includes this model in her best wet-dry vac review, likes the Turbo mode for messier spots, and the tangle-free technology helps prevent that unsightly wad of hair wrapped around the bristles. Other perks include a screen that shows battery time, suction level, fluid level, and the notification when the dirty tank is full. (There are two tanks, one for clean and one for dirty water.) If there are any issues during cleaning, the machine will beep. The brush is self-cleaning, but you probably want to air it out since the vacuum won’t dry it.ILIFE V5s Plus Robot Vacuum and Mop ComboNot only is the ILIFE V5s Plus pretty and one of the most budget-friendly options, it also boasts dual sweeping and mopping features and comes with a 300-ml dustbin and 300-ml water tank—banishing dust bunnies and other pesky dirt from a hardwood floor, laminate, and low-pile carpet. AD contributing writer Jordan Goldberg tested this wet-dry robot vac, and she was impressed by how the appliance navigated on path mode (this setting was most efficient because the robot works to find and tend to areas that need cleaning). “The vacuum is dedicated to getting even the tiniest specks of dirt, circling back two or three times until the area is spotless,” she says. Use your app to control the water distribution, which comes at Goldilocks levels: gentle, standard, and strong. It’s also perfect for tracking cleaning history. You’ll always know if the vacuum was put to work. With a run time of 110 minutes, you can clean the entire house on one charge. Another perk: It works quietly and won’t disturb you. Goldberg even slept in one morning, not realizing her little machine was cleaning away.Photo: Terri WilliamsShark HydroVac MessMaster Cordless Wet-Dry VacuumThe Shark HydroVac MessMaster Cordless Wet Dry Vacuum is another top pick. Keep it close to your kitchen as this small upright vacuum cleaner works great to pick up dry messes (like coffee grounds), as well as wet messes (like spilled milk). “I appreciate the ability to change the water flow from Everyday mode to Area Rug mode as needed,” Williams says in her review. The battery life is pretty average, around 40 minutes, making it perfect for a quick run before guests arrive. In terms of cleaning, place the vacuum cleaner on the dock, and the rinse system will clean it.Photo: Terri WilliamsBlack & Decker Steam MopWhile it’s not technically a wet-dry vacuum, this Black + Decker steam mop is our favorite steam cleaner for giving floors a thorough refresh. Williams has used it in her space and notes that it is a versatile, easy-to-use option. “The low setting worked well for gently steam-cleaning my hardwood floors, and the mop head pivots to easily maneuver around corners,” she says. “The floor mop head does a good job of dispensing steam evenly without leaving a mess, as well.” Plus, it boasts plenty of helpful attachments like a squeegee for windows and a garment steamer to keep fabrics around the house wrinkle-free.Best Robot Vacuum SalesIf floor-cleaning is usually the last thing on your to-do list, a robot vacuum cleaner could lend a hand in the best way. This handy, high-tech appliance is designed to map out your floors and clean every nook and cranny without running into furniture. Robot vacuums are usually on the steeper side, so finding one like the options below around $100 or more off is a great deal.Photo: Lauren ArzbaecheriRobot Roomba i3+ EVO (3554) Self-Emptying Robot VacuumThe iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO will be a best friend for anyone working from home. In the words of Ron Popeil, “Set it and forget it.” Not only will this robot vac use dirt-detecting technology to find messes, but it will also clean itself by emptying into an enclosed bag that doesn’t have to be touched for two months. The cleaning approach sends it to work in rows (with overlapping passes) so your room is clean from wall to wall. “This small but mighty robot vacuum keeps up with the seemingly endless amount of hair that builds up on the floors of a home with three women living in it, and it is a big time-saver when it comes to cleaning,” says commerce producer Lauren Arzbaecher, who tested the iRobot. Not only does it work on assorted rugs, but the smart features also learn your habits and can set up personal cleaning suggestions and can be paired with Alexa, Siri, or Google Assistant. Arzbaecher loves that it can be activated when she’s away—a game changer. You can even name your robot vacuum in the app. Arzbaecher and her roommates chose the name Dolly—“because she’s working 9-to-5 to keep our home sparkling.”ECOVACS DEEBOT X1 Omni Robot Vacuum and Mop ComboLike a good cleaning device that it is, the Deebot automatically empties the grimy contents into the dustbin. After mopping, mop heads are washed and dried with hot air. Its 5,000PA suction power is made to handle tough stains on hard floors and carpets. Thanks to a laser-based navigation system, it works like something out of Mission Impossible to find the most efficient cleaning path with Tom Cruise precision—it can even navigate your home in the dark. It’s a solid option for anyone with little kids, as you can command the robot vacuum to pick up crumbs under the table or movie-night popcorn spills under the couch.Photo: Terri WilliamsDyson 360 Vis Nav Robot VacuumFew things are as annoying as a vacuum cleaner that leaves a strip of dust by the baseboards and in the corners. Not the Dyson 360 Vis Nav—it has specialty brush bars. Williams also likes that she can control the robot from the LCD touchscreen on the dock, the MyDyson app on her phone, or via smart voice control. “The robot creates a map of my home with the app, and from my phone I can create cleaning zones and also see where the robot has already cleaned,” she explains. You can even make a map for specific zones or on another level of your home. You might even want to add spots that you don’t want to clean—say when your kids are in the middle of a Lego-building project.Eufy X10 Pro Omni Robot VacuumThink of the Eufy X10 Pro Omni as your home’s personal groomer. This robot vacuum is equipped with a multidirectional floating roller brush with rubber and bristles, which works overtime (hello, 8,000Pa suction!) and removes dust and debris from carpets. To handle wet messes, the MopMaster 2.0 has dual mopping pads and 180 rotations per minute to lift away grime without damaging hard floors. Williams appreciates that the obstacle-avoidance algorithm (like the one in self-driving cars) detects slippers and whatever else might be on the floor. “Since it does such a good job of working in the background, I usually don’t notice it,” she says. “Therefore, the voice reminders like ‘low battery, heading home,’ and ‘start scheduled cleaning,’ are helpful in keeping me abreast of the machine’s activities.” The Eufy is pretty much self-sufficient and will recharge, then it will return back to wherever it left off cleaning. The same goes for refilling itself at the station, which washes the mop pads. These are also dried, making Williams glad that she doesn’t have to worry about mold or mildew growing on soggy pads.Best Upright Vacuum SalesFor those who like a traditional-style vacuum, an upright cleaner is a great choice. These classic vacuums are known for their huge dust bin capacities—ideal for cleaning the whole house in one fell swoop—as well as their powerful suction technology. While they’re bigger in size, you can grab one at a smaller price point for nearly hundreds off canister designs and more.Shark NV752 Upright VacuumWith more than 17,300 reviews and a 4.4 out of 5 rating, you know the Shark NV752 Rotator is doing something right. While we love our wet-dry and robot vacuums, one of the main benefits of upright models is that they can be used to clean upholstery and the narrow sections of stairs. This bagless vacuum has a large-capacity dust cup (0.88-quart), which is a bonus for households with pets. Plus, it comes with a self-cleaning Pet Power Brush. If you’re prone to allergens and sneezing, know that this model comes with a HEPA filter that’s designed to trap 99.9% of irritating particles.Dyson Ball Animal 3 Extra Upright Vacuum CleanerAt 17.3 pounds, the Dyson Ball Animal 3 is relatively easy to maneuver—when you clean your floors, it’s designed to feel almost like you’re mowing. The model is engineered to clean a large space where pet hair is prevalent. Three cleaning modes and five accessories (tangle-free turbine tool, pet groom tool, tool holder, stair tool, and combination tool) make this upright vacuum a jack of all trades. Once your surfaces are clean, an occasional vacuum spruce-up is in order, and with a washable filter it’s easy to do.Miele Complete C3 Calima Bagged Canister Vacuum CleanerWith power comes great responsibility—to clean, that is. This vacuum has six suction levels that work on any surface, including medium-pile carpets, but it “really thrives on hardwood floors,” Williams says. While technically not a standard upright style, the bagged canister vacuum is not bulky. “Since all the weight is on the floor, the stick has the feel of a lightweight handheld vacuum, while a 33-foot cleaning radius ensures you get around your home nimbly and without too much extra movement,” Williams continues. “One-touch cord rewind prevents knots, and all of the accessories can be stored within the actual vacuum itself, keeping everything right where it needs to be when you need it.” Miele’s high-quality design includes a HEPA Lifetime Filter that promises to trap even the finest dust.Bissell CleanView Swivel Vacuum CleanerHere’s another budget-friendly option for pet lovers. Bissell supports homeless pets, and every purchase contributes to the cause. The Triple Action Brush Roll will play fetch with clumps of pet hair, and the extension wand works wonders on upholstery—it’s not called Pet TurboEraser Tool for nothing. Amazon also notes that this 4.5-star-rated product has fewer returns than similar items.Best Stick Vacuum SalesSome of the most stylish appliances out there, stick vacuums are both sleek and easy to maneuver thanks to the abundance of cordless models on the market. Even though they usually have a narrow design, they also pack cleaning power with strong HEPA filtration systems from the likes of Samsung, Dyson, and more leading brands. Snag one of our favorites for up to 35% off now.Samsung Bespoke Jet Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner w/ Clean StationThe Samsung Bespoke has an adjustable telescopic pipe to help you reach tricky spots. Williams calls out its elegantly designed cleaning station that keeps her home hole-free since this model does not need a wall mount. You can use it to clean area rugs, tile, and hardwood floors. “This model has more air watts (210W) than any of Samsung’s previous cordless stick vacuums—and it also includes more accessories,” she says. “The lightweight (six-pound) vacuum is easy to maneuver, and the nozzle includes a dual brush head (a soft one for hard floors and another one with fins for carpets).”Bissell Cleanview XR Pet 300W Cordless VacuumBissell CleanView XR 200W Vacuum is one of our picks for the best vacuums on Amazon. Williams loves that the three-in-one (stick, handheld, or high-reach) can easily convert to make the most of the crevice tool, combination dusting brush, and upholstery tool. “Run time is only 35 minutes—but at this price, you can purchase an additional battery and swap them out,” Williams says.LG CordZero All in One Cordless Vacuum CleanerAs for the best cordless vacuums, Williams can’t get enough of LG’s CordZero Cordless Stick Vacuum and is a big fan of the “sleek and stylish design.” Here, fashion meets function as the run time is about 60 minutes, and the purchase includes an extra battery. The dust bin capacity is pretty good as well, the Kompressor technology promises 2.4 times more space. Williams also appreciates the adjustable telescopic wand, which she sets to a comfortable height. For deep cleaning of the HVAC vents in her kitchen’s ceiling, she goes for the Power Mini Nozzle.Dyson Gen5detect Absolute VacuumThe Gen5detect is famous, at least in the world of Dyson. It is known for being one of the brand’s most powerful HEPA cordless vacuums with an extra-long battery life (70 minutes). Cleaning with this machine is a bit like working in a high-tech science lab because the illumination technology reveals even the tiniest specs of dirt. You’ll also be impressed with the Digital Motorbar cleaner head that has 56 detangling vanes to remove wrapped hair. The screw tool attachment is your ally to remove everything from pretzels to change from car seats and couch cushions. “I find myself using the built-in dusting and crevice tool, which fits in tight spaces to pick up debris, and the combination tool, which has a wide nozzle and brush for cleaning vents and other areas,” Williams says. “This is one of the best Dysons, one of the best vacuum cleaners, and one of the best cordless stick vacuums out there.”
