The JWST May Have Discovered the Milky Way's Twin
The Milky Way may have a twin. The discovery of the most distant spiral galaxy to date may change the way we think about both the speed and process in which such systems are birthed, an international team led by the University of Geneva (UNIGE) reported in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics. Astrophysicists have long thought that large spiral galaxies like the Milky Way form over several billion years in a chaotic process and initially form irregular shapes. But the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is changing that conception. It is revealing large, well-structured galaxies at much earlier times than anticipated. And its resemblance to the Milky Way is uncanny.“Its disk spans over 60,000 light-years, comparable to our own galaxy, and contains more than 100 billion solar masses in stars,” Mengyuan Xiao, a research fellow postdoctoral researcher at UNIGE and lead author of the study, said in a press release. “This makes it one of the most compelling Milky Way analogues ever found at such an early time, raising new questions about how massive, well-ordered spiral galaxies could form so soon after the Big Bang.”Rethinking Galaxy FormationThe newly found galaxy, named Zhúlóng, meaning "Torch Dragon" from Chinese mythology — came into existence a mere billion years after the Big Bang.“In the myth, Zhúlóng is a powerful red solar dragon that creates day and night by opening and closing its eyes, symbolizing light and cosmic time,’’ Xiao said in the release. “What makes Zhúlóng stand out is just how much it resembles the Milky Way – both in shape, size, and stellar mass.” Zhúlóng was discovered somewhat serendipitously. The JWST was operating in “pure parallel mode” — meaning that while its main instrument was collecting data from a primary target, its secondary one was scanning the cosmos. “This allows JWST to map large areas of the sky, which is essential for discovering massive galaxies, as they are incredibly rare,” Christina Williams, an astronomer at NOIRLab and an author of the paper, said in a press release. “This discovery highlights the potential of pure parallel programs for uncovering rare, distant objects that stress-test galaxy formation models.”Milky Way Twin DiscoveryDiscovering Zhúlóng shows that this is a sound strategy. Astronomers will employ the JWST and Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) observations to learn more about Zhúlóng’s properties as well more details about how it was confirmed. The discovery of the Milky Way twin shows both the power of new imaging techniques as well as how much about the universe remains a mystery.Article SourcesOur writers at Discovermagazine.com use peer-reviewed studies and high-quality sources for our articles, and our editors review for scientific accuracy and editorial standards. The best infrared saunas for 2025
We may earn revenue from the products available on this page and participate in affiliate programs. Learn more › Few things can make you feel more luxurious than sitting in a sauna, but getting an infrared sauna treatment? That’s next level. If you’re unfamiliar, infrared saunas are saunas that use infrared light to heat your body. It’s not to be confused with other types of saunas, like a steam room that produces moisture, or super hot saunas that warm the air along with the people inside. Infrared saunas rely on infrared waves to warm your body directly, so the room itself doesn’t have to get as hot. This is a great option if you absolutely hate sitting in a hot room but still want the benefits of a sauna. And something like our best budget pick, the SereneLife Portable Infrared Home Spa, doesn’t even require a permanent space.  You’ll still sweat, of course, and your heart rate may go up as your body tries to cool itself (so remember that water bottle). Saunas can produce several health benefits. Other research has shown that infrared saunas can help with chronic pain, increase blood flow, help with muscle damage, and lower stress and fatigue. This list of the best infrared saunas will help you choose the right model for your specific body and home needs. Best overall: Sunlighten Sauna Best sauna blanket: Heat Healer Infrared Sauna Blanket Best two-person sauna: Clearlight Sanctuary 2 Best outdoor sauna: Enlighten SIERRA – 4 Peak Best budget: SereneLife Portable Infrared Home Spa How we chose the best infrared saunas When deciding which infrared saunas to suggest, we wanted to give a diverse range of recommendations that reflect the market. There are portable, compact infrared saunas and sauna blankets, as well as large customizable rooms that can take up half a backyard.  We also looked at value for what you get. Of course, a constructed sauna room is going to cost way more than a blanket, so we measured the cost-value ratio across each product type. Does it come with auto features in case of overheating? Are the materials used nontoxic? We got your back, team. Finally, we scoured the internet for reviews. Seriously, we looked at Reddit … Amazon … any and all reviews for the same sauna across multiple platforms. The editors and writers at PopSci have combined decades of experience covering technology of all kinds, including those in the wellness arena. That experience provides the basis for our search for the best infrared saunas. The best infrared saunas: Reviews & Recommendations With the jargon sorted, it’s time to get into our picks for the best infrared saunas. While we’ve broken down the picks by category for specific users, remember that they absolutely overlap, and all these models promise solid performance and value.  Best overall: Sunlighten Sauna Pros High quality, top of the line 7 wellness programs using the tablet Chromotherapy Comes in several customizable sizes Cons Expensive Specs Electrical: 240V 4800W 20A Exterior Dimensions: 85.6” W x 70.6” D x 78.5” H Heaters: 14 FIR, 12 MIR, 7 NIR Why it made the cut: The grand champion of infrared saunas serves near, mid, and far infrared heaters, seven wellness programs, and everything else you could ever want. This infrared sauna represents the top of the line, and for good reason. It offers a highly customizable experience depending on who’s using it: modify the ambiance, sounds, smells, and wellness programs to your specific tastes. Inside, it offers a super-comfortable ergonomic bench, a Blaupunkt sound system that offers top-notch audio, and thick, durable, gorgeous wood with top-tier insulation.  Assembly is super easy with their Magne-seal locking method, meaning you don’t have to use screws or nails. One of the best parts is the included Chromotherapy lighting, which uses colors from the sun’s visible light spectrum to set the mood.  It’s big and it’s an investment, but if you can swing it, this will check every box that you have. Best sauna blanket: Heat Healer Infrared Sauna Blanket Pros Compact, portable, and convenient  Certified non-toxic Made with premium amide fabric Less expensive than building full sauna rooms Cons The attachment can be annoying to deal with Can be a pain to put away and take out for daily use Specs Max Temp: 80 C (176 F) Blanket Dimensions: 75″ long; circumference of 69″ Type of Infrared: Far Why it made the cut: If you don’t have room or cash for an install, you can still enjoy some infrared. A sauna blanket is the perfect compact and portable solution to getting your infrared sauna needs in the privacy of your own home. We chose Heat Healer’s super high-quality and luxurious sauna blanket because it offers a solid mix of features and price. It’s certainly not “cheap,” but compared to building an infrared sauna in your backyard, it’s decidedly more affordable. The blanket relies on a carbon fiber heating element along with 96 jade and tourmaline stones, which offers a super evenly dispersed heat for optimal results.  What we love most about this blanket is that it’s certified non-toxic, made with premium amide fabric (the same material used by NASA astronauts’ spacesuits), which is extremely chic. Always put a towel down when using it to keep your blanket clean and hygienic, and wipe clean with a natural solution, like vinegar.  It also claims to block EMF, but there’s no real proof that they’re harmful to you, so take those claims with a grain of salt.  Best two-person sauna: Clearlight Sanctuary 2 Pros Gorgeous contemporary design Smartphone controlled 36-hour programmable timer Cons Large, you’ll need ample space Expensive Specs Power: 240V / 2,250W / 15A Exterior Dimensions: 57″ W x 52″ D x 82″ H Weight: 765 lbs Why it made the cut: This gorgeous smartphone-controlled sauna is made with carbon/ceramic far infrared heating technology, and furniture-grade cabinetry. We are in love with the gorgeous, contemporary Clearlight Sanctuary 2 Sauna. These state-of-the-art saunas feature a full-spectrum heating system that creates consistent, even heat.  Easily control your sauna remotely with their app. It also comes with a built-in charging and audio station, a door handle/smartphone cradle, 8mm thick glass front and ceiling, and furniture-grade materials and construction.  They also offer a slew of upgrades, such as Jacuzzi LED Light Therapy, Electric Aroma Therapy, and a bench cushion if you so desire. This sauna is extremely luxurious, so remember that when you find out the cost. We did some digging and found it for around $8,000, but it can go up from there. Best outdoor sauna: Enlighten SIERRA – 4 Peak Pros Eco-Certified Cedar Wood/Non-Toxic Double Roof (Flat Roof + Outdoor Roof) Bluetooth Player With Speakers Lots of Indoor Features Cons Some customers had issues with long wait times/delivery Specs Power: 220/240 V / 3750 W Exterior Dimensions: 61.5” x 71.6” x 96” Weight: 1,025 lbs Why it made the cut: This spacious, eco-friendly outdoor sauna with nine carbon heaters and two full-spectrum heaters fits four people comfortably. Made from gorgeous Canadian red cedar wood, this spacious Far Infrared Sauna is big enough to fit four people comfortably. It comes with nine carbon heaters and two full-spectrum heaters, Bluetooth speakers, a built-in backrest, a digital controller, indoor lighting, and a wide bench. It also includes smaller touches like towel and magazine racks, cup holders, and other smart details. The cedar wood is also gorgeous, and cedar tends to be more weather-resistant than other woods. This kind of sauna isn’t the kind of thing you can install yourself, so expect to go through a somewhat intensive ordering, delivery, and installation process to get it up and running. Once it’s in, though, it doesn’t require much in the way of maintenance, and it should last for years.  Best budget: SereneLife Portable Infrared Home Spa Pros Inexpensive  Compact and portable Comes with foldable chair Convenient hand access zippers Foot heating mat Cons Plastic smell when new, goes away with time Specs Max Temp: 140 F Product Dimensions: 31.5 x 27.56 x 37.8 inches Max Time: 60 minutes Why it made the cut: Portable, convenient, and compact, this home spa comes with a foldable chair and foot heating pads for a total body spa experience at an affordable price. This indoor sauna kit comes with everything you need for an at-home sauna spa experience and is under the $250 mark. It’s portable, convenient, and compact for apartments or small spaces, and energy and power efficient, so you’re not running up those utility bills. It comes with a foldable chair to sit on during your session (you can use this for up to 60 minutes, which is the preferred amount before you start to seriously dehydrate). We love that it comes with convenient hand access zippers so you can easily grab a book, your phone, tablets, or whatever else you need, so that you’re not dying of boredom. And it also has a heated mat for your feet. The moisture-resistant fabric allows for outdoor use, as well. It also has a plastic smell when new, but many customers say it will go away after the first use. Things to consider before buying an infrared sauna Before we dive into the final list of picks, there are some specific terms and features you should understand regarding the best infrared saunas. Here are some specs or terms you’ll see along the way.  Type The main types of infrared saunas are ceramic or carbon heaters. Infrared saunas also come as blankets, portable single-person units, or full-fledged wooden rooms. Also, outdoor saunas and indoor saunas have different requirements that are essential for safety and success. Identify your preferred type before moving on.  Budget The cost of infrared saunas varies, given the type of sauna you choose. A blanket is obviously going to be much more inexpensive than a huge structure—blankets can be around $500-$800 while sauna rooms can cost between $5,000-$8,000. Settle on a budget that feels comfortable for you and then look within that range.  Safety Look for a few key features to ensure the highest level of safety in your infrared sauna, including:  Temperature should not exceed 140 F. Scratch-resistant safety glass should be thick and sturdy. Be sure not to install the sauna on carpet and check for any electrical wiring issues. Size Can it fit two people? Four? Six? Is it only meant for solo use? Think about how you plan to use your sauna, and whether it’s worth investing in a larger size if several people will want to use it in the same household. Materials Look for saunas that use high-quality wooden paneling (these will retain heat much better), high-quality carbon heaters, and any accessories you might want (audio, ceiling vents, etc). If you’re purchasing a sauna blanket, make sure that you’re not getting a cheap, crappy plastic bag.  FAQs Q: How long should you sit in an infrared sauna? How long you should sit in an infrared sauna depends on your tolerance! Our best advice is to start slowly at about 10-15 minutes and work up to 30-40 minutes. For infrared blankets, many manufacturers say you can even go up to 60 minutes if you feel up for it.  Q: Where should I put a home sauna? You should put a home sauna wherever you have the space, a heat source, and protection. You should never put a sauna on the carpet. Good locations include a shed, an oversized bathroom, a garage, an ADU, or outside if it’s an outdoor sauna. Q: How do you clean a home sauna? Since you’ll be breathing in the air in a confined space, be sure to only use a non-toxic, chemical-free, mild detergent. We love these two brands: Therapy Clean and Force of Nature.  Therapy Clean is a great line of plant-based cleaners that aren’t toxic and full of chemicals. Force of Nature is a small cleaning appliance that uses electricity to convert tap water, plus a recyclable capsule of salt, water, and vinegar, into a powerful multipurpose cleaner and deodorizer!  Best overall: Sunlighten Sauna Best sauna blanket: Heat Healer Infrared Sauna Blanket Best two-person sauna: Clearlight Sanctuary 2 Best outdoor sauna: Enlighten SIERRA – 4 Peak Best budget: SereneLife Portable Infrared Home Spa Infrared saunas aren’t for everyone, especially if you have a heart condition or other issues that will act up under the heat. For some people, however, the flood of IR waves can feel calming and soothing, especially after a workout. While most of the options on this list are rather pricey, they’re also meant to last for years once installed, so you can continue your routine well into the future.

Microsoft Will Support Nintendo Switch 2 With Its Games, Says Xbox Chief Phil Spencer
Photo Credit: Screenshot - Xbox On/ YouTube Phil Spencer has said more Xbox games will release on PlayStation and Nintendo platforms Highlights Nintendo Switch 2 was fully unveiled on April 2 in a Direct showcase Xbox games have previously launched on the Nintendo Switch Some Xbox games have been rumoured to launch on the Switch 2 Advertisement Nintendo Switch 2 was fully unveiled earlier this month at a Direct showcase, with Nintendo finally sharing details about its next console and the games coming to it in 2025. In addition to first-party titles like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, several third-party developers announced their games for the Switch 2 at the presentation. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has now said in he intends to support the new console with Xbox games, too.Phil Spencer on Switch 2In a new interview with Variety, Spencer talked about Microsoft's plans for Nintendo Switch 2 and said the platform offered the Xbox parent a way to reach new players.“So we've been supporting Switch 1, I want to support Switch 2. Nintendo has been a great partner. We think it is a unique way for us to reach players who aren't PC players, who aren't players on Xbox,” the Xbox chief said.“It lets us continue to grow our community of people that care about the franchises that we have, and that's really important for us to make sure we continue to invest in our games.“I'm really a big believer in what Nintendo means for this industry and us continuing to support them. And getting the support from them for our franchises, I think, is an important part of our future.”Xbox Games Rumoured for Nintendo Switch 2Spencer has previously confirmed that Xbox would support Nintendo's new console. While Microsoft did not announce any of its games for the Switch 2 at the Nintendo Direct presentation on April 2, but some Xbox titles have been reported to be coming to Nintendo's new console.Earlier this year in January, industry insider NateTheHate had shared his predictions for Xbox and its games in 2025, where he said that Xbox exclusives Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection would launch on Nintendo Switch 2 and PS5.A separate Windows Central report at the same time, had claimed that Microsoft intended to double down on its multiplatform strategy in 2025 and launch more games on Sony and Nintendo's platforms. According to the report, first-party Xbox games like Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, Age of Mythology: Retold and potentially Gears of War: Ultimate Edition could arrive on PS5 and likely on Nintendo Switch 2 this year. Microsoft has not yet confirmed any of its games for the Switch 2 yet.But as Spencer mentioned in his latest interview, the Xbox parent has supported the Nintendo Switch platform in the past. Last year, in a pivot from its Xbox and PC exclusive launch strategy for its first-party games, Microsoft announced that four of its titles would launch on the Nintendo Switch and PS5.These four games — Pentiment, Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush and Grounded — later launched on both platforms and are currently available on the Switch. Microsoft is set to launch Bethesda's Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on the PS5 later this week after the game's initial release on PC and Xbox Series S/X. Hopefully this gets sorted though I plan to play predominantly in handheld mode.   Transistor This isn't going to go the way you think Administrator Oct 25, 2017 40,981 Washington, D.C. logash said: That's a shame. Someone mentioned to me in another thread that you can do 4K 120 with 4:2:0 on HDMI 2.0 (and now I feel bad because I meant to respond to them and never did lol). Although I might be misremembering that too, it's been a long fucking week lol. Honestly, will probably just have to wait till it's in the hand of tech reviewers before we really know  Derkon Member Oct 25, 2017 3,450 What is going on with this console   Instro Member Oct 25, 2017 16,806 What is/was on the JP site?   Jaypeg Member Feb 10, 2023 96 This console launch is deflating fast   RPGsandFGCs Member Jun 30, 2024 702 California It's gonna be like bluetooth audio in the Switch 1 and get randomly added in a system update 4.5 years after launch   Rowsdower Shinra Employee of The Wise Ones Avenger Oct 27, 2017 19,550 Canada Hopefully it's like with the PS5 where it didn't support it at first but they patched it in later. Honestly, it would have been much better they did not market it for portable play if they cannot guarantee it to also work on TV.   MadraptorMan Member Oct 27, 2017 1,071 Niigata, Japan Hopefully it's still actually supported, but if not, goodbye smooth 40 fps "balanced" modes...   Jencks Member Oct 25, 2017 9,090 We lost   Neoxon Spotlighting Black Excellence - Diversity Analyst Member Oct 25, 2017 92,771 Houston, TX Now I'm officially confused, why support it for only handheld but not docked? cubicle47b said: I still see it on Nintendo's site here: https://www.nintendo.com/en-gb/Hard...ch-2-More-details-about-features-2790188.html I wouldn't freak out because a marketing page changed. See how the little disclaimer after the VRR mention only has HDR and 120fps, like the new disclaimer does on the US/CAN websites

Maingear Launches New MG-1 Pre-Built Systems, Featuring NVIDIA RTX 5060 And RTX 5060 Ti GPUs
Maingear MG-1 will now be available with NVIDIA's latest 60-class GPUs from Blackwell family, featuring decently powerful specs for gaming at 1080p. Maingear Debuts MG-1 Silver and Gold Pre-Configured Systems Based on RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti GPUs As NVIDIA launched its latest RTX 5060 series, several OEMs have announced their newest lineups of PCs featuring the latest Blackwell gaming GPUs. Maingear has debuted its newest gaming pre-built systems powered by both RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti graphics cards. The company has been making pre-built systems using the latest AMD, NVIDIA, and Intel hardware and has just updated its MG-1 gaming system lineup. The MG-1 PCs will be available in Silver and Gold configurations and will feature both the newly launched RTX 5060 series GPUs to enhance gaming experience at 1080p and 1440p resolutions. Right now, only the RTX 5060 Ti-based MG-1 Gold configuration is available on the official Maingear website, but more will be coming soon. The RTX 5060 will officially hit the shelves next month. Therefore, Maingear's RTX 5060-based MG-1 systems will be available next month as well. The MG-1 with RTX 5060 Ti comes with AMD Ryzen 5 9600X, a powerful mid-range Zen 5 CPU that is an ideal choice to pair with the 5060 Ti. The system will feature 16 GB DDR5 6400 MT/s of memory and 1 TB of storage but can be upgraded as per requirement. The CPU will be cooled using an AIO solution and will be installed on an AMD B850 motherboard to enable overclocking. The price of this system with 16 GB/1 TB starts at $1699 and will include 1 year of warranty. The GeForce RTX 5060 Ti has been launched in two editions: 8 GB and 16 GB, carrying price tags as $379 and $429 respectively. Considering the Maingear MG-1 with RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB costs $1699, the rest of the configuration costs $1270, which is definitely more than what you would pay if you bought the components separately, but if you don't want to face the hassle of building the system, Maingear will be doing the job for you. As far as the performance of these systems goes, expect them to be ideal for both 1080p and 1440p gaming and will offer the latest Multi-Frame Generation and Transformer Model DLSS for improved performance and visual quality. The RTX 5060-based Maingear systems should cost $1500 with a similar configuration but you will have to wait for the next month. News Source: Maingear Deal of the Day
