Apple’s Foldable iPhone Tipped to Have a Hole-Punch Display and Skip Face ID
Apple's upcoming foldable iPhone, now said to be a larger book-style device, is gradually starting to take shape. Months into the numerous rumours, there was some confusion about which design approach Apple would take for its first foldable. However, recent notes from analysts and leaks have begun to suggest at a book-style design. A recent leak suggested that Apple has moved forward with its choice of a near crease-free display with Samsung being its sole supplier. Now, more details about the displays used on the foldable iPhone have surfaced.According to a Naver blogger called ‘yeux1122', who sourced the information from Chinese microblogging platform Weibo, Apple's foldable iPhone will use a basic hole-punch camera for its first foldable. This is a departure from Apple's usual biometric authentication technology called Face ID, which has now become the standard on all iPhone models after the launch of the iPhone 16e. Turns out, Apple isn't done with Touch ID on iPhones yet, and will make use of the fingerprint-based biometric authentication technology (currently used in its affordable iPad models) for its upcoming foldable. An earlier note by famed analyst Ming-Chi Quo also mentioned the same. He stated that the device will be a book-style foldable, which should retail between $2,000 and $2,500, and claimed that it should hit production in the fourth quarter of 2026. His note also mentioned that the 7.8-inch display would be crease-free and that the cover display would measure 5.5-inches. The device would be “9-9.5mm thick when folded and 4.5-4.8mm when unfolded.”The new source, apart from reiterating the size of the display, also states that the cover display will sport a resolution of 2,088 x 1,422 pixels, while the larger inner display will have a resolution of 2,713 x 1,920 pixels. These display specifications aren't very different from what is being offered on Vivo's X Fold 3 Pro or Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 6.Given that Apple still uses Touch ID embedded into the power buttons of the Magic Keyboard on MacBook and on the iPad, we expect a similar implementation on the upcoming foldable as well. Some of the technologies for the foldable iPhone are said to be borrowed from another upcoming smartphone called the iPhone 17 Air. Said to be Apple's slimmest iPhone, it will measure just 5.5mm thick. A previous report also mentions that foldable's display will have a 4:3 aspect ratio, which is similar to most Android-powered foldable devices on sale today. CD Projekt RED Can’t Comment on The Witcher 3 for Switch 2, “All In” on Cyberpunk 2077
News CD Projekt RED Can’t Comment on The Witcher 3 for Switch 2, “All In” on Cyberpunk 2077 CDPR's Filip Downar also clarifies that Cyberpunk 2077's Switch 2 port has been in development for "much longer" than seven weeks. Posted By Ravi Sinha | On 17th, Apr. 2025 CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, with off-screen gameplay highlighting the current state of performance. But what about the developer’s other, arguably more acclaimed role-playing game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt? It’s already available for the Switch 1, so it would make sense. Former gameplay tech design lead (and current gameplay designer on Hadar) Filip Downar couldn’t confirm to Eurogamer whether it’s ever happening. For now, the studio is “all in” on Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, and it’s “thrilled” to work with Nintendo again. “Our relationship with Nintendo goes back to the original Nintendo Switch, where we released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. We were happy with how that game was received by players, so when we heard about the more powerful Nintendo Switch 2, we immediately thought it would be the perfect platform for Cyberpunk 2077.” “It’s incredibly exciting to be a launch title for this new hardware. Alongside all the Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive features – like motion controls, gyroscope implementation, the mouse sensor, and more – we can’t wait to see how the community explores the game in new ways.” Downar also clarified a “misunderstanding” about the port’s development time and confirmed that it’s “been ongoing for much longer.” “Our team has been working passionately to make all this happen, and for more than seven weeks, to be clear! This misunderstanding arose because the build we showcased was finalized seven weeks before we showcased it at Nintendo. Development has been ongoing for much longer as we’re working to bring Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition to Nintendo Switch 2.” Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition launches on June 5th alongside the Switch 2, retailing for $69.99. It includes the base game, the Phantom Liberty expansion, and all the post-launch updates on a 64 GB physical cart. Cross-progression is supported to transfer saves from other platforms. Your controversial gaming opinions?
tgrfawcett Member Oct 25, 2017 795 Utah Welcome to the controversial gaming opinions thread! Just a couple notes before people jump into the discussion, please be respectful of other thoughts, disagreeing with the mainstream consensus is kind of the point here. Next, don't be afraid to argue your case, see if you can win a few hearts and minds to your side. Don't be afraid to be verbose and engage with the main lines of thought going on throughout the thread. With that all said go ahead and get into your hot takes, your cold takes, and the controversial gaming opinions you have and the reasons behind them? I will kick things off with a controversial take that is growing less so as the years go on: Bioshock 2 is the best of the series thus far. It builds on everything the first did better without trying to copy its dramatic twist. Instead, it dives further into the philosophy of the world of Rapture and explores a new cast of characters with a lot to say. Also, the gameplay is a fantastic improvement on the original. Bioshock 2 is a certified best game.  Last edited: Nov 8, 2023 Dr. Benton Quest Resettlement Advisor Member Oct 25, 2017 3,758 Bloodborne isn't in the same genre as other souls games. While Persona 5's gameplay, and technical aspects are all superior - the game still falls short of its predecessors. The story goes on too long. Characters have weak arcs that are underwritten. The outdated Activity/skill system collapses in on itself by the back half of the game. The dating system is still poor. The group doesn't feel as connected (the game lacks group moments that bring them together). By the 5th dungeon, I was actually feeling bored. If they are cosmetic only and help to fund free gameplay content (see Overwatch, PUBG) I'm A-OK with them. The only problem is if they make the game somehow unbalanced, but so far I've seen very few games doing this. Just like DLC and season passes before, there is a massive overreaction because it's the new way to make money. Their most universally beloved games all build on top of existing systems/mechanics made/adapted by other people. When you start getting into games where they had a bigger role in designing things, you start getting into a lot more flawed (albeit interesting) experiences. Platforming challenges in these games, each with disconnected "missions" rather than levels you learn and can accept as worlds in and of themselves, don't teach the player as organically as I'd like. Chunking platforming ideas so hard apart, rather than building upon each of them within long-form levels, allows for more difficulty but less challenge and general satisfaction. It's less that I can't enjoy the games and more that I pine for platformers that either don't worry about difficulty much (Sonic series for example) or which encourage 1-credit-clear play.

Apple, Qualcomm, MediaTek And Others Are Rumored To Introduce A Significant Price Hike On Its Chipsets Due To TSMC’s Increased 2nm Wafer Costs, Resulting In More Expensive Devices
Menu Home News Hardware Gaming Mobile Finance Deals Reviews How To Wccftech Apple, Qualcomm, MediaTek And Others Are Rumored To Introduce A Significant Price Hike On Its Chipsets Due To TSMC’s Increased 2nm Wafer Costs, Resulting In More Expensive Devices Omar Sohail • Apr 17, 2025 at 06:48am EDT TSMC reportedly started accepting 2nm wafer orders earlier this month, with industry estimates putting each wafer at a cost of a whopping $30,000. It is unconfirmed if the foundry giant can lower the price once it reaches a certain scale, but this will put companies like Apple, Qualcomm, MediaTek, and others in a tough position. On one hand, no firm wants to be left behind by having access to cutting-edge technology, but at the same time, the price increase of chipsets that will leverage the 2nm process could result in phone makers having to absorb the cost. In short, future smartphones and tablets all equipped with next-generation silicon will have little choice but to be shipped at a higher price. This year could see Apple, Qualcomm, and MediaTek avoid price hikes due to sticking with TSMC’s third-generation 3nm process It will take TSMC a while to boost production of its 2nm wafers, but when that time comes, Digital Chat Station has commented on Weibo that the increased production cost will force Apple, Qualcomm, and MediaTek to charge a premium for their chipsets. Earlier, TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that not all iPhone 18 models will feature a 2nm A-series SoC because of the high wafer costs, suggesting that the higher-end iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will exclusively ship with this silicon. For 2026, Qualcomm is said to be working on not one, but two 2nm chipsets, one of which will be the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 3. However, even the San Diego firm is well aware of the consequences that will materialize if it continues relying on just TSMC, which is why the company is still exploring a dual-sourcing option where it can take advantage of Samsung’s advanced nodes. As for MediaTek, it can command a higher market share by selling its upcoming Dimensity 9600 at a lower price to phone makers. The tipster could be correct in his prediction regarding the price increase of 2nm chipsets, but seeing as how demand for these wafers is higher than 3nm ones, a possibility exists where TSMC lowers the price based on scale alone. We recommend readers to treat this rumor with a pinch of salt, and we will be back with more updates.
