WWW.DIGITALTRENDS.COMYou may have to wait longer for a more affordable Tesla Model YIt’s been a while since Tesla gave a long-awaited makeover to its Model 3 EV, and followed it with the introduction of an updated Model Y in its home market. However, the company’s rumored plans for a more affordable SUV that will be assembled in the US have reportedly run into a delay. According to Reuters, Tesla was hoping to assemble nearly a quarter million units of its cheaper Model Y variant in 2026. The goalpost has now been shifted, and there is no clarity regarding a revised market launch plans for the vehicle, which is said to be in development under the codename E41. . Recommended Videos “Global production of the lower-cost Model Y, internally codenamed E41, is expected to begin in the United States, the sources said. That would occur at least a few months later than outlined in Tesla’s public plan, they added, offering a range of revised targets from the third quarter to early next year,” says the report. Related Christian de Looper / Digital Trends The watered-down Model Y variant will reportedly have a smaller footprint and is touted to sell at a 20% lower sticker price. For comparison, the Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD) trim of the Model Y currently goes for $41,490 in the US, after applying the federal tax credit worth $7,500 in the US. Based on the report, the upcoming car could be priced a hair under the $40,000 mark before tax credits are put into the mix. With an asking price like that, Tesla would would put itself in direct competition with the likes of Hyundia, Kia, Chevrolet, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Ford. Notably, Tesla is said to have ramped up local sourcing of parts in the past few quarters, which means if the company moves ahead with plans of mass manufacturing the Model Y “E41” variant, the impact of tariff won’t be felt as much. However, the situation remains volatile as Tesla has seen a sharp decline recently. Christian de Looper / Digital Trends The company’s market share slid below 50% for 2025’s first quarter in California, one of the biggest EV markets in the country. “An aging product lineup and backlash against Elon Musk’s political initiatives are likely key factors for the decline in Tesla BEV market share,” the California New Car Dealers Association said about the slump. In addition to a stripped down Model Y, the carmarker is currently occupied with its Cyber Cab project. Interestingly, the Reuters report mentions that Tesla is also working on “a bare-bones version of its Model 3.” The company was recently said to be working on an affordable EV that could cost as little as $25,000, but those plans have been shelved, for now. Some Canadian retailers are now labelling products imported from the United States. Some stores were already labeling locally-made products since Trump's tariffs were announced. Empty shelves show consumers are responding with strong preferences for Canadian products. Some Canadian retailers aren't playing nice about US imports anymore. They've escalated from simply labeling products made in Canada to singling out American-made products with a warning label "T" for "tariffs."Loblaw Companies Ltd., which operates about 2,400 stores across Canada, announcedAn April 17 Leger poll found that 76% of Canadians have increased their purchases of locally made and sourced goods in recent weeks, representing the highest number of respondents looking to buy Canadian goods since the market research firm began tracking the behavior in mid-February. Shelf labels at a supermarket in St. John's, Canada, show a maple leaf and the price, indicating items made or produced in the country. VCG/VCG via Getty Images Business Insider previously reported that Canadians have seen a surge in patriotism since President Donald Trump, in mid-March, made comments about making the 158-year-old nation the 51st US state — and that patriotism is reflected in the grocery aisle."All the grocery stores now have Canadian and American labelled produce — and the Canadian produce is always gone," Vancouver-based shopper Isabella Zavarise told BI.It's not just a preference for Canadian-made goods; it's an active avoidance of US imports, Zavarise said. And the preference isn't about saving money — quite the opposite: "Everyone I know is shopping local despite how expensive it is," she added. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported that small grocery stores, in particular, are seeing price increases related to the tariffs being exchanged between the US and Canada, and the country's consumer price index rose 2.3% year over year in March, following an increase of 2.6% in February.Prices of American imports have skyrocketed — 100ml of Tropicana orange juice is listed for $13.99 at Metro stores, another Canadian chain — but even locally-made goods have seen increases, the outlet reported. The US and its Northern neighbor have been locked in an escalating trade dispute over Trump's aggressive trade strategy, which, as of March 13, levied tariffs of 25% on many Canadian consumer goods and 10% on energy product imports from Canada.Canada announced 25% counter-tariffs on US goods in response.Representatives for Loblaw and Metro did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Business Insider. WWW.ARCHDAILY.COMCafé with a Large Tree in the Middle of Town / Kazuto Nishi Architects + toitdesignCafé with a Large Tree in the Middle of Town / Kazuto Nishi Architects + toitdesignSave this picture!© Masahiro Terada Architects: Kazuto Nishi Architects, toitdesign Area Area of this architecture project Area: 221 m² Year Completion year of this architecture project Year: 2025 Photographs Photographs:Masahiro TeradaMore SpecsLess Specs Save this picture! Text description provided by the architects. This is a plan for a café that will be built in the middle of town and open to the local community. The client wanted to create a place where local people can easily visit and improve their own brand through this building. The construction site is in the middle of the hustle and bustle of a regional city lined with large facilities, in a chaotic corner of the town where commercial and industrial atmospheres mix together. In this somewhat cold, dry urban environment that lacks naturalness, the architect thought that architecture with the strength to express its existence as it is could create a lively state and place in this place.Save this picture! The architecture embodies the pleasant feeling of being in a forest and the strength of trees. Specifically, the main structure is constructed of wood, and the structural framework and strength-bearing members are left as much as possible uncovered, and the plan was made so that they would live as the facade, creating an architecture that resembles a collection of large trees with large branches and leaves in the middle of an artificial town.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture!Entering the building from the entrance, the ceiling is covered with a powerful structure like the large branches supporting a large tree. Aside from the wood, the background is a monotone of white and gray, enhancing the abstraction of the structural frame. Upon going up to the second floor, the branches become more subdivided and lighter.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture!By derailing the architecture from the somewhat commercially uniform design code of this place and reinterpreting it as part of the natural environment, we have created a space where visitors can spend a more natural and relaxed time. The use of wood also has a meaning other than simply creating space. By actively using wood, the "act of construction" itself becomes a new demand for forest resources in urban areas that already benefit from forests, and becomes part of the "wood cycle." Carbon, which is the source of carbon dioxide, is fixed in wood.Save this picture! As long as the wood remains in the wooden building, the building itself can be considered a second forest, an urban forest, in terms of carbon storage as well. We planned this building with the hope that it will become a starting point for thinking about the nature of architecture for the next generation, the relationship between business and society, and the relationship between people, cities, and nature – all of these connections.Save this picture!
