The game's publisher, Bandai Namco Entertainment, and movie production company A24 have announced a partnership that will see the popular action game being adapted to live-action movie form. Alex Garland has been announced as the writer and director of the project. He has previously been involved with movies like Civil War, Annihilation, and Ex Machina, while also being the writer behind projects like Dredd and 28 Days Later. FromSoftware famously worked with A Song of Ice and Fire series author George R. R. Martin to build up its lore. The author is also attached to the movie now, this time as a producer alongside Vince Gerardis, Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich. Winner of numerous Game of the Year Awards in 2022, Elden Ring turned out to be a massive success for the developer and publisher. Bandai Namco recently announced that the Souls-like RPG has sold over 30 million copies so far. Where the story will be set in the movie is a mystery. The game itself takes place following a cataclysmic chain of events, named The Shattering, that has effectively killed the world. The movie might take place before the event, during it, or even tell a story set in the same timeline as the game. In any case, it may be years before we hear about the movie project again. FromSoftware has been building upon Elden Ring since its launch, too. Last year, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion launched, taking players to an entirely different realm to tell another story in the dark fantasy universe. Soon, a spin-off title will launch out of the studio, too. Titled Elden Ring Nightreign, the cooperative multiplayer-focused title shakes up the gameplay loop and pacing entirely. President Donald Trump on Friday threatened Apple with a 25% tariff unless the company manufactures iPhones sold in America domestically rather than in India or other overseas locations. Trump posted on Truth Social that he had "long ago informed Tim Cook of Apple" about his expectation for US-based iPhone production, warning that failure to comply would trigger the substantial tariff penalty. The ultimatum follows Trump's expressed displeasure with Cook during his recent Middle East trip over Apple's plans to build iPhones at newly constructed Indian facilities. Apple has historically maintained that domestic iPhone manufacturing remains unfeasible due to insufficient skilled engineering talent and substantially higher production costs compared to Asian facilities. Disney's dramatic delay to Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, announced last night, means fans will wait longer to see Earth's mightiest heroes assemble again on screen. Avengers: Doomsday will now arrive seven months' later, on December 18, 2026. Secret Wars, meanwhile, will arrive a year after that, on December 17, 2027. But in among all this, fans are also talking about Spider-Man.Tom Holland's Peter Parker is also set to return next year, in the highly-anticipated Spider-Man: Brand New Day on 31 July, 2026 . This movie will pick up Peter's story following the events of No Way Home, where his identity was erased from the world's memory.PlayBefore Disney's delay, Spider-Man: Brand New Day would have arrived after Avengers: Doomsday, as a Tom Holland-flavoured MCU sandwich filling between Doomsday and Secret Wars. Now, Spider-Man: Brand New Day — which is still yet to begin filming — will arrive ahead of either Avengers movie, something fans hope gives the next Spidey story some breathing room, and potentially a more grounded narrative set at the Marvel universe's street level.Picture the previous situation for a moment. Avengers: Doomsday likely leaves audiences on a big cliffhanger, akin to Avengers: Infinity War, ensuring audiences turns up to see the resolution in the next film. If these remain projects are not linked to the Marvel universe, the MCU will have a relatively light movie schedule over the coming years. This year's awards celebrated creativity with purpose.

W Conran Design’s graphic design for last year’s Paris Olympics has won D&AD’s highest accolade. The Black Pencil is reserved for “truly groundbreaking work” and some years none are given out. But this year’s juries awarded three Black Pencils, including the Paris games’ visual identity. The judges called it a “breakthrough for traditional sports marketing aesthetics” and praised the design for being “playful and scalable, with a unifying but distinctive feel that blends heritage and sport.” W Conran Design co-founder and creative director Gilles Deléris called working on the Olympics and Paralympics, “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a designer.” “We are so proud and honoured by this recognition, which celebrates five years of collaboration with the Paris 2024 Organising Committee teams,” he said. “It was a shared commitment to excellence and a design system that is fresh, joyful, and popular.” W Conran Design’s work for the Paris Olympics It is only the fifth time a graphic design project has won a Black Pencil, joining Johnson Banks’ Fruit and Veg stamps for Royal Mail (2004), the new UK coin designs for the Royal Mint (2005), TBWA’s Trillion Dollar Flyers for the exiled Zimbabwean Newspaper (2010), and Hans Thiessen’s provocative annual report for the Calgary Society for Persons with Disabilities (2012). This year, the Paris design was joined on the Black Pencil podium by A$AP Rocky’s music video Tailor Swif, by Iconoclast LA, and FCB New York’s Spreadbeats, which hacked spreadsheets as a way to promote Spotify’s ad offerings. Its Black Pencil was for digital design, and this award caps a fine couple of weeks for that work, which also cleaned up at the ADC Annual awards, where it was named Best in Show. This year, 11,689 entrants from 86 countries submitted 30,000 pieces of work to the D&AD awards. But JKR global executive creative director Lisa Smith, who is also a D&AD trustee, said that judging was tricky due to a level of creative sameness. “Too many entries follow the same established design codes and trends, making everything start to look and feel alike, regardless of category,” she said. “The work that stood out – and was ultimately awarded – was the kind that breaks away from the expected: inspiring, well-crafted, and truly fit for purpose.” The Yellow Pencil is the highest award in each category. There were 48 in total, 11 of which went to the main design categories. There were 26 pencils for illustration, 20 for experiential, 12 for typography, and seven for writing for design. Across the board, the winners demonstrate “the power of design not just as a form of art, but as a catalyst for commercial success and behavioural change,” says D&AD CEO, Dara Lynch. “The resurgence of craftsmanship stands as a reminder that in an era of automation, true excellence lies in the thoughtful execution of ideas,” she added. President Trump has just blasted Apple in a post on his account on TruthSocial. The president said that he has “long ago informed” Apple CEO Tim Cook that iPhones sold in the United States should be manufactured and built in the United States, “not India, or anyplace else”. He continues by threatening that if this does not happen, “a tariff of least 25% must be paid by Apple”. The details of the ‘tariff’ are unclear, but the outburst has nonetheless shook investors and Apple company stock has already dropped 3% in response to the announcement. The seemingly-impromptu decree represents a continuation of the sentiment shared by Trump earlier this month, when he said he has a ‘little problem’ with Tim Cook when he heard the news that Apple was diverting iPhone production to India. This originates comments from Apple on its earnings call about how it intends to mitigate the impact of the reciprocal tariffs imposed on goods imported from China (although since, there is a temporary stay on that). Apple explained that the majority of iPhones sold in the US, in the June quarter, would be made in India. China iPhone production would continue to service the rest of the world. Similarly, U.S. sales of Macs, iPads and AirPods would be produced from Vietnam manufacturing facilities. This strategy would allow Apple to minimize the tariff impact, but of course it does not really achieve Trump’s stated aims of bringing manufacturing back to America. Apple has shown little interest in making iPhones domestically, partly due to cost and partly due to the lack of U.S. expertise and available labor. Even if it was possible, it would probably take a decade to build facilities capable of producing enough units to satisfy the tens of millions of iPhones sold in the US each year. Generally, Apple and Cook have managed Trump very well in this presidency and his prior stint. However, this latest development today suggests the company and the administration may be entering a more contentious phase. Apple is yet to comment on Trump’s statements. May 23, 2025Ravie LakshmananRansomware / Dark Web As part of the latest "season" of Operation Endgame, a coalition of law enforcement agencies have taken down about 300 servers worldwide, neutralized 650 domains, and issued arrest warrants against 20 targets. Operation Endgame, first launched in May 2024, is an ongoing law enforcement operation targeting services and infrastructures assisting in or directly providing initial or consolidating access for ransomware. The previous edition focused on dismantling the initial access malware families that have been used to deliver ransomware. The latest iteration, per Europol, targeted new malware variants and successor groups that re-emerged after last year's takedowns such as Bumblebee, Lactrodectus, QakBot, HijackLoader, DanaBot, TrickBot, and WARMCOOKIE. The interaction action was carried out between May 19 and 22, 2025. "In addition, €3.5 million in cryptocurrency was seized during the action week, bringing the total amount seized during the Operation Endgame to more than €21.2 million," the agency said. Europol noted that the malware variants are offered as a service to other threat actors and are used to conduct large-scale ransomware attacks. Furthermore, international arrest warrants have been issued against 20 key actors who are believed to be providing or operating initial access services to ransomware crews. "This new phase demonstrates law enforcement's ability to adapt and strike again, even as cybercriminals retool and reorganize," Europol Executive Director Catherine De Bolle said. "By disrupting the services criminals rely on to deploy ransomware, we are breaking the kill chain at its source." Germany's Federal Criminal Police Office (aka Bundeskriminalamt or BKA) has revealed that criminal proceedings have been initiated against 37 identified actors. Some of the individuals who have been added to the E.U. Most Wanted list are listed below - Roman Mikhailovich Prokop (aka carterj), 36, a member of the QakBot group Danil Raisowitsch Khalitov (aka dancho), 37, a member of the QakBot group Iskander Rifkatovich Sharafetdinov (aka alik, gucci), 32, a member of the TrickBot group Mikhail Mikhailovich Tsarev (aka mango), 36, a member of the TrickBot group Maksim Sergeevich Galochkin (aka bentley, manuel, Max17, volhvb, crypt), 43, a member of the TrickBot group Vitalii Nikolaevich Kovalev (aka stern, ben, Grave, Vincent, Bentley, Bergen, Alex Konor), 36, a member of the TrickBot group The disclosure comes as Europol took the wraps off a large-scale law enforcement operation that resulted in 270 arrests of dark web vendors and buyers across 10 countries: the United States (130), Germany (42), the United Kingdom (37), France (29), South Korea (19), Austria (4), the Netherlands (4), Brazil (3), Switzerland (1), and Spain (1). The suspects, Europol noted, were identified based on intelligence gathered from the takedowns of the dark web marketplaces Nemesis, Tor2Door, Bohemia, and Kingdom Markets. Several suspects are alleged to have conducted thousands of sales on illicit marketplaces, often using encryption tools and cryptocurrencies to conceal their digital footprints. "Known as Operation RapTor, this international sweep has dismantled networks trafficking in drugs, weapons, and counterfeit goods, sending a clear signal to criminals hiding behind the illusion of anonymity," Europol said. Along with the arrests, €184 million in cash and cryptocurrencies, 2 tons of drugs, 180 firearms, 12,500 counterfeit products, and more than 4 tons of illegal tobacco have been seized by authorities. The joint action follows Operation SpecTor in May 2023, which led to the arrest of 288 dark web vendors and buyers and the seizure of €50.8 million in cash and cryptocurrency. "With traditional marketplaces under increasing pressure, criminal actors are shifting to smaller, single-vendor shops — sites run by individual sellers to avoid marketplace fees and minimize exposure," Europol said. "Illegal drugs remain the top commodity sold on the dark web, but 2023 also saw a surge in prescription drug trafficking and a rise in fraudulent services, including fake hitmen and bogus listings designed to scam buyers."
