  • MultiVersus Live Service Dies (Again), Players Who Paid for Founder Pack Feel Scammed
    cgshares.com
Warner Bros. GamesYou might know MultiVersus because of its closure and comeback in May, and Warner Bros. Games has another one for you. The company has announced that the games live service is coming to an end again.Season 5 will serve as the final update for MultiVersus, beginning 4th February and ending 30th May 2025. After season 5 ends, players will be able to enjoy the game offline for the foreseeable future, its X/Twitter post says. All online features will continue to be available until Season 5 concludes on May 30 at 9 a.m. PDT. At that point, there will be an option to play MultiVersus offline via the local gameplay mode, either solo against A.I. opponents or with up to three friends, the creators explained. As of today, January 31, real money transactions will no longer be available for MultiVersus, which means you can no longer purchase Gleamium, but you can still use remaining Gleamium or character tokens to access in-game content until Season 5 ends on May 30 at 9 a.m. PDT. Additionally, when Season 5 finishes, the game will no longer be available to download via the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store. No one knows how long that foreseeable future will last, but players are understandably unhappy, especially those who paid $100 for the Founders Pack expecting 30 character tokens and 2,500 Gleamium but left disappointed. As one player noted, there will be 35 characters in the roster with Aquaman and Lola Bunny, which should save Warner Bros. Games from refunds legally, but the fact is people will have unused tokens lying around.23 characters were already unlocked before purchasing Premium Founders. They still charged despite that. Means they promised the purchaser that they would be able to use all 30 of those tokens knowing that they bought it even after unlocking everything that was released at that moment, a Redditor said.Im sure the company protected itself from legal action, so while players feel scammed, I doubt theyll get their money back. Most importantly, we want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus. All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have poured our heart and soul into this game. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey, the MultiVersus team said. What do you think about the games rapid demise? • Common Side Effects creators talked to a lot of people to get their conspiracy just right
    www.polygon.com
The thrust of Common Side Effects, Adult Swims new animated show, is a big one: What if you found a mushroom that would cure anything any ailment, any illness, any wound? Marshall (Dave King) has done exactly that, and he has found that the result is a lot of people think hes crazy, and hes got them after them. You know them: in this case, a cadre of shadowy figures, DEA agents, and various thugs sent by Big Pharma. Its a tale that goes as big as the animated world of Common Side Effects will let it. Which is exactly why co-creators Joe Bennett and Steve Hely wanted the story to stay grounded and natural right down to the motion of their eyes.Youre talking to [somebody] a lot of times their pupils are always scanning your face, just always moving around and scanning, Bennett says. That just feels like a little quirky thing that we dont really think about much. But Common Side Effects characters were considered on that level. Especially as the show balances the absurdity of being in a 90s-style conspiracy thriller from all angles. Weve always talked about Coen brothers movies being a really nice sort of North Star for us, Bennett says. You can have these really hilarious moments and then all of a sudden somebody gets shot in the face.To anchor that, Bennett who also worked on Scavengers Reign wanted the characters to look like people. (He laughs and acknowledges that these character designs are a little more on the bobblehead side of the spectrum of characters he creates.) And to help build out the world, Hely and Bennett pulled from all over were talking all over.Stuff weve been reading, stuff weve experienced, people we knew, people weve heard of, documentaries, life experiences, Hely told Polygon. The Insider, Erin Brockovich, Grisham movies, The X Files all of these things that were important to us growing up. Conspiracy theories! Weird characters from Reddit, weird characters from real life.We talked to people in the pharma business. We talked to a mycologist. We talked to a tortoise biologist. We talked to people that have worked in different parts of the corporate world. We talked to a law professor who knows a lot about how drugs become legal or illegal. All of that could certainly bog down any writing process. But for Bennett and Hely, it actually felt freeing. After all, like with any good conspiracy, Common Side Effects has a lot of moving parts. As people run and chase each other all over the world, there is a lot to consider even just on a pure timeline basis, let alone factoring in plot and pacing needs. To really lose themselves in the thriller, the research helped. It seemed often like the more it was true to what would really happen, it would reveal exciting things that could go into the show, Hely said. Its funny, the word cartoony is sort of a negative word were trying to make a show as real as Succession or Breaking Bad. To do that in animation, if we pull that off, that right there will make the show funny. The first two episodes of Common Side Effects are now streaming on Max. New episodes drop every Sunday night on Adult Swim at 11:30 p.m. EST and on Max the day after.

  • M3GAN 2.0 teases a new dance and a new mission for the killer doll
    www.polygon.com
Everyones favorite murderous, dancing robotic pre-teen is back in the first teaser trailer for M3GAN 2.0. Of course, the teaser includes a few new moves for M3GAN, as well as a bit of a new look. But the 45-second dance clip doesnt tell us much about what the killer robot will be getting up to when her sequel arrives on June 27. Thankfully, the YouTube description that goes along with the teaser has a lot more details to give us a preview.[Ed. note: This post will include the basic set up of M3GAN 2.0, so if you want to go into the movie totally fresh, its probably best to just watch the teaser without reading more.]Heres what the YouTube description has to say: Two years after M3GAN, a marvel of artificial intelligence, went rogue and embarked on a murderous (and impeccably choreographed) rampage and was subsequently destroyed, M3GANs creator Gemma (Allison Williams) has become a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of A.I. Meanwhile, Gemmas niece Cady (Violet McGraw), now 14, has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemmas overprotective rules.Unbeknownst to them, the underlying tech for M3GAN has been stolen and misused by a powerful defense contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno; Ahsoka, Pacific Rim: Uprising), the ultimate killer infiltration spy. But as Amelias self-awareness increases, she becomes decidedly less interested in taking orders from humans. Or in keeping them around. With the future of human existence on the line, Gemma realizes that the only option is to resurrect M3GAN (Amie Donald, voiced by Jenna Davis) and give her a few upgrades, making her faster, stronger, and more lethal. As their paths collide, the original A.I bitch is about to meet her match. In other words, M3GAN 2.0 is taking the classic path that murderous robots like the Terminator walked before her: shes becoming good in the sequel. But while her turn toward the heroic isnt particularly surprising, it does seem like a fun direction to take the character, particularly given how much audiences enjoyed her the first time around when she was the movies villain. Letting her continue her sassy streak and horrifying violence to protect the girl she almost killed the first time around seems like a natural evolution for the franchise. Along with bringing back the characters that survived the first movie, M3GAN 2.0 is also a reunion for the original movies creative team, bringing back writer Akela Cooper, director Gerard Johnstone, and producers James Wan and Jason Blum. Megan 2.0 will be in theaters June 27.
