• Who Should Be the Next James Bond? Jeff Bezos Wants You to Chime In
    www.cnet.com
Bezos. Jeff Bezos. The billionaire Amazon founder may have a big say in who gets cast in one of the film world's most iconic roles: Bond. James Bond. And fans have the opportunity to champion their favorite actors and try to capture Bezos' attention.Bezos kicked off a flurry of activity among Bond aficionados by posting a simple question to social media on Thursday: "Who'd you pick as the next Bond?" Bezos included a screenshot of a Reuters article highlighting the news that the Bond franchise's long-time producers have handed creative control of the action films to Amazon.Henry Cavill as James Bond? If Bezos actually reads the Instagram comments, then he'll know who the general public is pulling for to take over as 007. A quick survey of the responses shows one name in particular popping up repeatedly. Henry Cavill may have played the American superhero Superman, but he's very British. "I think the world has gone mad if Henry Cavill isn't offered this role," said one commenter.See also: Every James Bond Movie Ranked -- the Best and Worst of 007British actor Idris Elba also got a few mentions, though when asked back in 2018, he said he wouldn't be the next Bond. Maybe he'll change his mind.Cavill might be a popular choice, but some fans are thinking outside the box. There was at least one vote for American comedian Kevin Hart. Whoopi Goldberg, known for her work on Star Trek and as a co-host of The View, received a shoutout as well.Amazon didn't immediately respond to a request for comment on Bezos' level of involvement with creative or casting decisions for the franchise.Amazon takes creative control of James Bond Enlarge Image Daniel Craig was the most recent James Bond, but he stepped down from the role in 2021. MGM/Universal PicturesAmazon closed a multibillion-dollar deal to buy MGM Studios in 2022 and formed Amazon MGM Studios. MGM has been the home of the Bond series, with every Bond movie now streaming on Amazon's Prime Video-- for an extra fee of around $4 to rent each movie, or about $15 to buy, depending on the age of the movie. While the Bond franchise is a big business, it's also been a family venture under the control of producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli."With my 007 career spanning nearly 60 incredible years, I am stepping back from producing the James Bond films to focus on art and charitable projects," said Wilson in an Amazon statement on Feb. 20. "Therefore, Barbara and I agree, it is time for our trusted partner, Amazon MGM Studios, to lead James Bond into the future."See also: Being James Bond: How 007 Movies Got Me Into Intelligence WorkThe long-time producers and Amazon MGM will remain co-owners of the franchise. "Since the MGM acquisition, Amazon has held rights to distribute all of the James Bond films, and as a result of this transaction will have creative control over future productions," Amazon said. That's why Bezos' Instagram post carries some weight.Though famous on film, the suave superspy debuted in a series of novels by Ian Fleming. Many actors, from Sean Connery to Pierce Brosnan, have played the role. Daniel Craig was the most recent 007, but he stepped away from the character after No Time to Die in 2021. The blockbuster movie handily topped the $700 million mark. The next actor to play James Bond will have big shoes and even bigger action scenes to fill. It can be a long commitment. Craig's run started in 2006. (Then again, there was also the one-and-doneGeorge Lazenby). Expect some things to stay the same, no matter who steps into the role. Tuxedos, martinis, fast cars and devious gadgets should be along for the ride, whether it's fan-favorite Cavill or a dark-horse candidate on board.

  • Canon's New Camera Is in a Category Once Thought Practically Dead
    www.cnet.com
A new point-and-shoot camera? In 2025? That might seem surprising if you aren't up on the latest trends. The reality is the prices of used and older compact cameras have gone through the roof. There's a real interest, especially among younger people, for capable cameras separate from their phones.Canon follows recent announcements by Nikon, Panasonic and others with its new camera in a category once thought dead. The PowerShot V1 records 4K video at 60fps, takes 22.3-megapixel photos and has a stabilized zoom lens.Perhaps most interesting, and hinting that there may be more cameras to come in the future, is that the V1 features an entirely new, 1.4-inch image sensor. Most of the V1's likely competitors, like the Sony ZV-1 II, have 1-inch sensors. A larger sensor generally translates to better image quality. For Vloggers and more Canon/CNET1.4-inch sensor (similar in size to M4/3)4K60 with crop, 4K30 full frame with down sampling5,760x3,840 photos (22.3 megapixels)RAW and C Log 316 to 50-millimeter (35mm equivalent) f/2.8-4.5 lensDual Pixel autofocusWi-Fi, Bluetooth, HDMI (micro), 3.5mm headphone and 3.5mm mic jacksLacking an electronic viewfinder or built-in flash, the V1 is intended primarily for video. It records 4K30 full-frame and 4K60 with a slight crop. The new sensor uses the same Dual Pixel autofocus as what's found on Canon's R6 MkII. There are both mechanical and electronic shutters, with a 1/2,000 maximum shutter speed for the former, and 1/16,000 for the latter.Getting light to that new, relatively large sensor is an f/2.8-4.5 lens that goes from an ultrawide 16mm to a more portrait-friendly 50mm (35mm equivalent). That's GoPro-levels of wide angle and will likely come in handy -- pun very much intended -- for handheld video recording and selfies. Mechanical and electronic image stabilization help keep video smooth and photos blur-free. There's also a three-stop neutral density filter to allow for wider apertures or longer exposures in bright light. Enlarge Image CanonFor people who want more pro-level control of their videos and photos, both 10-bit C Log 3 recording and RAW image capture are available. The V1 will include a "dead cat" wind muff for better audio recording outside. There are mic and headphone jacks, so you can monitor and record audio with a separate mic. The multifunction shoe on top lets you connect and power other Canon accessories, like wireless mics.Recording 4K video can heat up any device, so there's a built-in cooling fan to keep record times long (or at least longer). Related on CNET So... when?Canon expects to release the PowerShot V1 in late April... sort of. Right now the camera has officially been announced only in Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. A US release is likely for sometime in 2025. US pricing, too, is unknown. It's 148,500 yen in Japan, which at current exchange rates is $989. Could that mean $999 in the US? That would compete fairly well with the $899 Sony ZV-1 II and its smaller sensor. A photo sample from the V1. I included it here because beagles are the best. Canon

  • 36 Bathroom Color Ideas to Inspire Your Next DIY Project
    www.architecturaldigest.com
Sure, you could spend monthsand thousands of dollarson a bathroom remodel, but why not simply transform your bathroom with a coat of paint? Bathroom color ideas abound, and the spaces are the perfect place to play with paint, which can stand up to splashes and steam better than wallpaper. The color you choose can really set the tone for the entire design and the finished space, whether you go for a bright jewel-box feel or a light and serene retreat. Further, bathroom design is oftentimes difficult to spice up given the limited amount of space available for decor, so paint is of the utmost importance. Check out the bathroom color ideas below for plenty of inspiration to get you started.Photo: Lance Gerber1/36Cherry RedA bright cherry red makes an undeniable statement in any room but is particularly unexpectedand impactfulin a bathroom. • More Tesla Showroom Protests Planned For This Weekend
    www.theverge.com
Protestors are planning more demonstrations outside Tesla showrooms nationwide this weekend, as Elon Musks polarizing behavior and political activities within the Trump administration continue to have negative side effects on his electric car business. The protests are being advertised on BlueSky under the tags Tesla Takeover and Tesla Takedown, similar to demonstrations held last weekend. At least three dozen events are listed on Action Networks website, with a banner urging people who own Tesla vehicles or stock in the company to divest, sell their vehicle, and join the picket line. Its unclear how many people will join the demonstrations, and whether there is even a clear leader behind the movement. Alex Winter, a progressive activist and actor who played Bill in Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure, posted about it on BlueSky.Still, its a sign that Musks company as well as the millions of vehicles that he has sold continue to serve as a target for people angry and frustrated by the unelected billionaires efforts to take over the federal government at Trumps behest, shutting down whole agencies and targeting federal workers for layoffs. It has led to vandalism in some cases. Social media is rife with images of Tesla vehicles defaced with swastikas or slapped with stickers of Musk throwing a fascist salute at Trumps inauguration. Earlier this month, police in Arcata, Cali., received several reports of Tesla owners finding threatening notes on their cars, warning them to sell their cars or risk the consequences. No Nazis in America, several of the fliers read, according to local reports.Several Tesla shareholders have expressed a desire for a change in leadership at the company, worried that Musks growing polarizing reputation could significantly impact the companys financial future. But that seems unlikely in the near term, given Musks broad shareholder support. Still, Teslas stock price has plummeted 30 percent from its all-time high in December, including a 21 percent selloff since Trumps inauguration, ABC reports. Tesla sales were down year over year in 2024 for the first time in over a decade. And the company appears to be in free fall in Europe, plummeting in several key markets like Norway, France, and Spain, Wired found. For years, Teslas fortunes have been inextricably linked to attitudes toward its controversial CEO. When people thought Musk was going to usher in a brighter future, full of robotaxis and trips to Mars, the value of the company went up like one of his rocket ships. But now that hes being labeled a fascist while leading a shadowy effort to root out DEI and woke ideology in the federal government, Musk is becoming more of a liability than an asset.See More:

  • Alien: Romulus director Fede lvarez knows how he'd like to approach an Alien vs. Predator movie, but it'd be a hard trick to pull off
    www.vg247.com
Bad BloodAlien: Romulus director Fede lvarez knows how he'd like to approach an Alien vs. Predator movie, but it'd be a hard trick to pull offSecrets are a thing of the past.Image credit: 20th Century Studios News by Fran Ruiz Contributor Published on Feb. 20, 2025 Most people agreed that last year's Alien: Romulus was a return to form for the long-running sci-fi horror franchise, nightmare CG Ian Holm aside. Now, with a follow-up practically confirmed after its box office success, director and co-writer Fede lvarez is discussing his vision for more stories set in that universe, and whether they could lead to a new Alien vs. Predator event movie.Even 20th Century Studios head Steve Asbell openly admitted in late 2024 that a new AvP is potentially on the cards, so hearing lvarez talk about his ideas for a tentative refresh of the iconic crossover born in the realm of comic books (and which later produced a number of quality video games) isn't too surprising. To see this content please enable targeting cookies. His new comments arrived via a Q&A session with the filmmaker after a Collider-hosted special IMAX screening of his Alien interquel. Of course, the sequel that's now in the works (which may or may not be a direct one) was brought up, but eventually, the conversation moved into the uncharted waters of a potential AvP crossover now that both Alien and Predator are healthier than they were less than 10 years ago."I can't speak for Dan. At some point, once there's another Alien, and I know he's working on a sequel to Prey, one day if we feel like, Yeah, that's what we cannot wait to see, I think that's a movie we could do," he admitted. Dan Trachtenberg, who's currently hard at work on this year's Predator: Badlands, has yet to publicly acknowledge all the buzz that's surrounding a potential return to the galaxy's deadliest crossover. On other hand, lvarez was already toying with the idea around the time Alien: Romulus was released."The best AVP will be the one that you don't know is AVP until the other guy shows up. You think you're watching a Predator movie, and then they land in some place and there are creatures, and f**king hell, it's a Xenomorph. That would get me. F**k yeah! You'd go crazy. Or vice versa, you're in an Alien movie, and then suddenly a mysterious creature is there, and you can hear that sound, and you see the cloak, and you go, Is that a f**king Predator? And then turns out it is," he added. Though such an approach would be an incredibly hard thing to pull off in the age of leaks and spoilers (plus studios wanting to be as transparent as possible with the marketing), it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility.Steve Asbell already expressed interest in the idea of not putting out a movie that's just titled 'Alien vs. Predator: Whatever' but again, you gotta put butts in seats, especially with Disney footing the bills. So, it's hard to imagine a scenario in which a new Alien vs. Predator would be a cloaked twist in a seemingly normal flick of either franchise. For all we know, Predator: Badlands could already introduce a small tease (a la Predator 2) pointing in the general direction of an AvP reboot, as Trachtenberg's second Predator movie won't be a follow-up to Prey. Instead, it's set in the future and on an alien planet. Would you like to see that happen?

  • Talking Point: The 3DS Library Is Ripe For Switch 2, But Is NSO The Way To Go?
    www.nintendolife.com
Mo' dimensions, mo' problems. The 3DS has one of those libraries where the more you think about it, the better it gets. Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask 3D, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Super Mario 3D Land, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Kirby: Planet Robobot, WarioWare Gold, Samus Returns... you get the picture. If only someone had a list of the best 3DS games, eh? Our point is, that delightful little stereoscopic sweetheart had more bangers than a tin of hot dog sausages. And we want to play them on Switch 2.Of course, we're not asking for everything to come over. Some of the handheld's best titles have already made the jump to Switch in remastered form (Captain Toad, Luigi's Mansion 2, Monster Hunter Stories, etc.), and another group landed follow-ups that borrowed so heavily from its 3DS predecessor that a full-blown port would feel silly does anyone actually want Mario Kart 7 when so much of its DNA can be found in 8 Deluxe? But, with Majora's Mask 3D celebrating its anniversary last week, rumours of a Kirby: Planet Robobot remaster ever rumbling and still no sign of a Rhythm Heaven on Switch, we're craving even more 3DS action in 2025.Read the full article on nintendolife.com

  • Your Android phone could have stalkerware. Heres how to remove it
    techcrunch.com
Consumer-grade spyware apps that covertly and continually monitor your private messages, photos, phone calls and real-time location are an ongoing problem for Android users. This guide can help you identify and remove common surveillance apps from your Android phone, including TheTruthSpy, Cocospy and Spyic, among others.Consumer-grade spyware apps are frequently sold under the guise of child monitoring or family-tracking software, but are referred to as stalkerware and spouseware for their ability to also track and monitor partners or spouses without their consent. These spyware apps are downloaded from outside of Google Plays app store, planted on a phone without a persons permission and often disappear from the home screen to avoid detection.Stalkerware apps rely on abusing in-built Android features that are typically used by companies to remotely manage their employees work phones or use Androids accessibility mode to snoop on someones device. You may notice your phone acting unusually, running warmer or slower than usual, or using large amounts of network data, even when you are not actively using it.Checking to see if your Android device is compromised can be done quickly and easily. Before you startIts important to have a safety plan in place and trusted support if you need it. Keep in mind that removing the spyware from your phone may alert the person who planted it, which could create an unsafe situation. The Coalition Against Stalkerware offers advice and guidance for victims and survivors of stalkerware.Note that this guide only helps you to identify and remove spyware apps, it does not delete the data that was already collected and uploaded to its servers. Also, some versions of Android may have slightly different menu options. As is standard with any advice, you follow these steps at your own risk.Make sure Google Play Protect is switched onMake sure Google Play Protect, a security feature in Android phones, is enabled.Image Credits:TechCrunch / Getty ImagesGoogle Play Protect is one of the best safeguards to protect against malicious Android apps by screening apps downloaded from Googles app store and outside sources for signs of potentially malicious activity. Those protections stop working when Play Protect is switched off. Its important to ensure that Play Protect is switched on to ensure that its working and scanning for malicious apps. You can check that Play Protect is enabled through the Play Store app settings. You also can scan for harmful apps, if a scan hasnt been done already.Check if accessibility services have been changedStalkerware relies on deep access to your device to access the data, and is known to abuse Androids accessibility mode which, by design, requires broader access to the operating system and your data for screen readers and other accessibility features to work.Android users who do not use accessibility apps or features should not see any apps in this section of Androids settings. If you do not recognize a downloaded service in the Accessibility options, you may want to switch it off in the settings and remove the app. Some stalkerware apps are disguised as ordinary looking apps and are often called Accessibility, Device Health, System Service or other innocuous-sounding names.Android spyware often abuses in-built accessibility features. Image Credits:TechCrunchCheck any app access to notificationsMuch like the accessibility features, Android also allows third-party apps to access and read your incoming notifications, such as allowing smart speakers to read alerts out loud or your car to display notifications on its dashboard. Granting notification access to a stalkerware app allows for persistent surveillance of your notifications, which includes the contents of messages and other alerts. You can check which apps have access to your notifications by checking your Android notification access settings under Special app access. Some of these apps you may recognize, like Android Auto. You can switch off notification access for any app that you do not recognize.Spyware taps into notifications access to read user messages and other alerts. Image Credits:TechCrunchCheck if a device admin app is installedOther features commonly abused by stalkerware are Androids device admin options, which have similar but even broader access to Android devices and users data.Device admin options are usually used by companies to remotely manage their employees phones, such as wiping the phone in the event of device theft to prevent data loss. But these features also allow stalkerware apps to snoop on the Android display and the devices data.An unrecognized item in your device admin app settings is a common indicator of phone compromise.Image Credits:TechCrunchYou can find the device admin app settings in Settings under Security. Most people wont have a device admin app on their personal phone, so be aware if you see an app that you dont recognize, named something similarly obscure and vague like System Service, Device Health or Device Admin.Check the apps to uninstallYou may not see a home screen icon for any of these stalkerware apps, but they will still appear in your Android devices app list. You can view all of the installed apps in Androids settings. Look for apps and icons that you dont recognize. These apps may also show as having broad access to your calendar, call logs, camera, contacts and location data.Spyware apps are designed to blend in with generic-looking names and icons. Image Credits:TechCrunchForce stopping and uninstalling a stalkerware app will likely alert the person who planted the stalkerware that the app no longer works.Secure your deviceIf stalkerware was planted on your phone, there is a good chance that your phone was unlocked, unprotected or that your screen lock was guessed or learned.
