While we live in the universe where the game was released in stores with a great deal of marketing, publisher Sierra On-Line planned to abandon the game shortly after release.While Half-Life eventually became one of the best-selling PC games of its time, it didnt start off that way. Early sales were quite dismal, piracy was rampant, and it wasnt until the games Game of the Year Edition reprint that the game became the success we know today, but Sierra didnt want to support the game after its initial release.Sierra almost killed Half-LifeSpeaking at GDC 2025, via GamesRadar, former Valve CMO Monica Harrington revealed that Sierra executives planned to launch or leave the game. Harrington and Valve co-founder Gabe Newell were told that the publisher would scrap all marketing from Half-Life to focus on other Sierra titles.Half-Life would quietly die, Harrington explained. I felt stunned.In a move worthy of a cinematic biopic moment (come on, Fincher), Harrington threatened to expose Sierras fumbling business to the games industry as a whole. If marketing funds were pulled from Half-Life, developers and journalists would learn everything about the state of the company. Because youre not seeing everything all at once. We tried to create consistency through color while providing a new set of textures or materials in each room. For furnishings, they leaned into sleek, Art Deco, and French modernist forms by the likes of Jean-Michel Frank, Josef Hoffman, and Francis Jourdain, mixing in unexpected accents, like the Japanese copper door hung horizontally as an artwork in the living room. Its actually made of small pieces of metal that are hammered together, explains Chan of the work, sourced from local design emporium Galerie Half. And you can see a little door handle. Looking at interiors of Giorgio Armani and Peter Marino, they brought in parchment detailsin the form of folding screens, end tables, and lampsto deliver subtle texture.Office of BC custom designed the unusual triangular island in the kitchen, which is painted Farrow & Balls Slipper Satin. They ended up designing a piece that blended those two looks, adding a canopy to soften the rigidity of the ironwork. Meanwhile, for the entry, they created a table and stool set from carved black walnut. When the sofa they sourced from France for the media-slash-guest-room didnt feel right in the space, the duo set to work devising a bespoke option, wrapped in forest green Claremont velvet, that was roomy enough for a friend to crash on.The designers like to think of this project as the latest chapter in the long lineage of the house. Were so into the research, says Byron. Ultimately, the process was driven by wanting to make something that adds to the history of the home. Chan elaborates: In 20 or 30 years, maybe it evolves and morphs and takes the best of our version and some parts of the previous ones.

Read ourprivacy policyTesla has been forced to recall every Cybertruck it has ever sold after safety regulators raised an issue with the glue used to attach one of its stainless steel panels.The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will oversee the recall of 46,100 Cybertrucks, marking the eighth recall for Teslas electric pickup truck since deliveries to customers began just over a year ago.A report from the NHTSA warned that an exterior panel that runs along the left and right side of the windscreen can detach while driving, creating a hazard for other drivers. The stainless steel strip, called a cant rail assembly, between the windscreen and the roof on both sides, is bound to the truck's assembly with a structural adhesive.The remedy uses an adhesive which has not been found to be vulnerable to "environmental embrittlement", the NHTSA said, and includes additional reinforcements.Tesla will replace the panel free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be sent out on 19 May.The recall of 46,096 Cybertrucks covers all 2024 and 2025 model years, manufactured from November 13 2023 to February 27 2025.The NHTSA order said Tesla became aware of the problem early this year.Videos showing people ripping the panels off Cybertrucks with their hands have gone viral on social media in recent days.The Cybertruck, which Tesla began delivering to buyers in late 2023, has been recalled eight times in the past 15 months for safety problems, including once in November because a fault in an electric inverter could cause the drive wheels to lose power.Last April, the futuristic-looking trucks were recalled to fix acceleration pedals that could get stuck in the interior trim.Other recalls were related to windscreen wipers and the display screen.It is the latest setback for the Elon Musk-owned electric car maker which has come under attack since President Donald Trump took office and empowered Mr Musk to oversee a new Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) which is slashing government spending.While no injuries have been reported, Tesla showrooms, charging stations and privately owned cars have been targeted. Weve known for a while that it would arrive in early April, and bring with it a new monster in the form of Mizutsune. On Tuesday, March 25, the Monster Hunter Wilds Showcase will return at 7am PT, 10am ET, 2pm UK. Legendary series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto will be hosting this edition of the show, which will focus entirely on Title Update 1.Getting a solid release date for this one would be a good guess, but were also curious to see what new monster difficulty level is being added. Capcom previously said it will be more challenging than Tempered, so the logical conclusion we could come to here is that Arch-Tempered monsters are on their way to Wilds.Of course, the other major addition coming with this first update is a new version of the iconic Gathering Hub, which should effectively become the new default home base for all players. The initial announcement mentioned having meals together as one of the things we can do there, so were really hoping that also means the return of the Cantina, the Meowscular Chef and his helpers.A gathering hub also has a few other, more practical reasons, such as hosting all the material collection, ship requests, vendors and pretty much every NPC you want to deal with in one location. Its not yet clear whether this version will have all that, but at least we wont have to wait much longer to find out.The Tuesday show will be livestreamed on Monster Hunters official Twitch channel. The company announced that the action RPG has had over 1 million players in its first 24 hours on sale.This is obviously pretty good for any game, but the real news here is that those arent actual sales figures, which is a little concerning.To see this content please enable targeting cookies. Assassins Creed games always do well for Ubisoft, so there was little worry that Shadows wouldnt also deliver. Much of the pre-launch doom and gloom about the publishers future was warranted, however - and the constant delays certainly didn't help.But here we are, one day after release, and we have a sign of life. Ubisoft announced in a Tweet Thursday that Shadows has passed 1 million players. This milestone was reached just on its first day on sale, and likely includes all platforms.Ubisoft has yet to reveal hard sales numbers, either shipped or sold. In fairness, the publisher doesnt typically do that; its more concerned with active player numbers, as all the modern Assassins Creed games incorporate many live service elements that rely on player retention, and not necessarily the initial sales bump. Naoe is not sure about this. | Image credit: Ubisoft/VG247Over on Steam, the games performance has been, well, fine, though nothing particularly special. Shadows currently sits at the top of Steams top sellers for its third week running. After launch, the game peaked at 41,412 concurrent players (via SteamDB).If youve been keeping up with the performance of other major Steam releases in 2025, 41,000 will no doubt look small compared to Monster Hunter Wilds 1.3 million concurrent, or Kingdom Come Deliverance 2s 256,000 series record. As positive word of mouth continues to spread, however, Shadows player base will surely grow over the weekend.Its also worth keeping in mind that, because Ubisoft spent several years not publishing its games - including Assassins Creed - on Steam, its audience is a little more fragmented on PC.
