I’m not sure what difference that is supposed to make, especially in a single-player only game, but there’s always someone that will pay for these things.I’m not complaining but I am wondering what’s going to happen with GTA 6. There’s already rumours it’s going to cost £100 or more but what are the special editions going to cost? I would bet a lot of money that one of them is going to let you play the game a week early, or whatever, and how much is that going to be? £150? Then there’ll be the super special edition with a statue of Jason and Lucia, for £300 or something crazy. I’m honestly curious to see how far they’ll push it, and I’m going to guess it’ll be pretty far.Gogol Interactive movies I noticed the news that Netflix has removed Bandersnatch and all their other interactive shows from the service. I have no idea why you’d want to do that but I’m guessing that means they weren’t as successful as they hoped.That surprises me, as I thought Black Mirror: Bandersnatch worked really well, and I don’t usually like these sorts of FMV style games. I’m sure it helps that Charlie Brooker knows his stuff when it comes to games, but I always imagined that that sort of thing would be how video game movies would be handled in the future. You already have games like Until Dawn, that are basically semi-interactive movies where the only important things you’re doing is making simple choices. Surely that’d be easy to replicate on a smartphone app when you’re watching a movie. Not for anything good, obviously, but for something dumb like Minecraft I would’ve thought it’d be a good idea. Instead, they made a movie of Until Dawn and not only was it not interactive it had almost nothing in common with the game. Maybe it’s all too much effort, when people will go and watch rubbish anyway, but it seems like a missed opportunity to me.Norris No Redemption I am glad to see there’s others who never really got the whole GTA phenomenon.I also add Red Dead Redemption to this list of games I simply didn’t understand the fascination with. I tried several times with Red Dead Redemption as everyone insisted it was amazing, but even zombies couldn’t make it fun for me. I am not bothered by the violence, but didn’t find the humour that funny and it felt more like someone trying too hard to be clever and not actually making real social observations. I found the missions repetitive and the controls awful. They’re not Microsoft, or even Sony, where if their games division has a bad generation, they can just lean on something else in the meantime. Making their games and consoles a success, and profitable, is a matter of life and death for Nintendo. Before you complain, I’m not trying to excuse Nintendo for the price rises but at least with them I understand them. Especially as they have this ‘dynamic’ pricing where Mario Kart and Donkey Kong are different prices, so I believe they’re not trying to be too outrageous. Obviously, Mario Kart World is more expensive because they know that’s the one everyone wants but I don’t feel like that’s not the most anti-consumer thing they’ve ever done. And certainly not compared to other companies. Somewhere, someone at Take-Two is trying to work out what’s the maximum they can charge for GTA 6 and they are not going to care at all if that means lots of people cannot afford it. That doesn’t make sense to me, because surely the more people that can buy it the more money they make. But I guess they figure people are going to be saving up to afford whatever it costs. New Persona annoucement due this week but prepare for disappointment GameCentral Published May 13, 2025 4:37pm Updated May 13, 2025 4:37pm Persona 5: The Phantom X – there’s too much red for it to be Persona 6 (Atlus) Atlus has confirmed that a new Persona title will be unveiled on Thursday but despite what fans hope it’s almost certainly not Persona 6. Persona 5 will be 10 years old next year. In that time there’s been innumerable spin-offs, as well as a remake of Persona 3 and rumours that Persona 4 will be getting the same treatment. What there hasn’t been any word on though is Persona 6. It was eight years between Persona 4 and 5, so even taking longer development times into account this isn’t unusual, but it’s frustrating for fans that literally the only thing we know about Persona 6 is that its main colour is green, rather than the red of its predecessor. Hopes rose today that maybe there’d finally be a reveal, as Atlus announced a livestream for a new Persona unveiling, but instead of Persona 6 it’s just yet another Persona 5 spin-off. Persona 5: The Phantom X is a free-to-play live service game from Chinese publisher Perfect World, that has already been available in open beta in China since last April. It features a completely different Phantom Thief team but with similar gameplay to Persona 5, albeit streamlined for smartphones and filled with microtransactions. In short, it’s probably the last thing fans wanted but presumably the annoucement this week is for the full release in Japan and (probably but not definitely) the West. Some fans have tried to convince themselves it is for Persona 6 but not only is the colour scheme and art style clearly that of Persona 5, but the owl emoji is a reference to the character Lufel, who is the game’s equivalent of Morgana from the main game. When will Persona 6 be announced? If you have to see it all for yourself, the livestream takes place on Thursday, May 15 at 3pm BST. The YouTube video for the stream is already live and features artwork that makes it very clear that this is Persona 5: The Phantom X and not Persona 6. More Trending Sadly, there really is no clue as to when Persona 6 will be revealed, although when it does arrive it’s expected to be multiformat, including for Xbox and the Switch 2. Given the critical and commerical success of Metaphor: ReFantazio, Atlus is in no rush to say or do anything about Persona 6, but the further we get away from Persona 5’s original launch date the more likely an annoucement gets. It’s possible Atlus may use one of the not-E3 summer showcases to unveil it, but it’s just as likely they’ll reveal it via one of their own events. There may even be a tease in the livestream on Thursday, but that seems unlikely. Perhaps the main question now is whether Persona 4’s remake will be announced and/or released before Persona 6. Considering there’s more evidence for its existence than for the sequel, that’s probably quite likely. The full interview is somewhere on Youtube and it was about promoting gow3. The interview itself was conducted by Shogungamer, which I think closed down. I've transcribed the question and answer below: DO YOU THINK THE DOUBLE STANDARD BETWEEN CINEMA & GAME RATINGS WILL EVER END? I think the problem...is that video games are always going to be perceived as children's items first. And, until, you know - I don't think that's ever gonna change, because they're for kids! You know, now, there are video games that are for mature audiences. There are older people playing games now. There are kids who grew up playing video games that are now in their 20s and you know, 30s that are still playing video games so they want something a little more...a little more R-rated. You know, and they should be able to have that. But, ultimately video games are marketed toward children so there's always gonna be a little bit more scrutiny. And they're really accessible to kids. I have a...I have a mixed thing about the violence in video games. I know that's strange coming from somebody playing *chuckles* one of the most violent characters in games. But um, like this game here [gow3], I would, I have nephews that are young that I, I won't let them play this game. It's too much for them! On the other hand, I have, you know, some godsons that older, you know, 18, 19, they love the game! So, I...I think the labels are important, I think the stores should enforce the labels, you know, and I think the parents should enforce the labels. Make sure you know what your kid is playing with. Click to shrink... throughout my entire life that I've played video games, I'll admit I played a lot of M rated games before I was even a teenager. but I don't know if that was right, and I don't know if it'd be right if I allowed my future kids to do that too. if there are restrictions in place to stop children especially young children (say like, younger than 13) from watching R rated movies or MA rated television, shouldn't the restrictions for video games be as strong? the counter to this that I can think of is music. Carson has a point about how accessible video games are to kids, but the entertainment medium that's most accessible is music. Sega Sammy Holdings – the parent company of video game publisher Sega – has revealed during its recent earnings reports (courtesy of GameBiz.jp) for the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2025, that sales of its games had fallen by 3.2 percent year-over-year. This amounted to revenue of around $1.5 billion, as caught by Automaton Media, from its console games divisions. The company has also revealed that overall operating profits have been on the rise since last year, however, making $189 million – a rise of roughly 28.3 percent year-over-year. The company attributed its rise in profits to the six games it had released over the last fiscal year, which have sold roughly 6.57 million copies (down from the 9.23 from the previous year). Sega’s older games, on the other hand, have seen a rise in sales totalling up to 24.87 million copies when compared to the previous year’s 18.66 million. Revenue from this amounted to a rise of around 29.6 percent. In its earnings report, the company also said that some of its more recent releases – Sonic X Shadow Generations, Metaphor: ReFantazio, and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii – have been showing strong commercial performance. Sega said that its cancellation of Football Manager 25 would have had a larger negative impact on its revenues and profits were it not for the recent releases, as well as DLC for older games. Football Manager 25’s cancellation was announced back in February. The studio behind the management sim, Sports Interactive, revealed that the decision was made in order to allow the developers to start working on the next iteration of the franchise instead. In its announcement, the studio also said that the extra time it gets from skipping the year would help with raising the quality of the next title. Ultimately, this year’s release was cancelled because the game wasn’t getting where the studio wanted it to be in terms of quality. “Whilst many areas of the game have hit our targets, the overarching player experience and interface is not where we need it to be,” said the studio in its announcement. “As extensive evaluation has demonstrated, including consumer playtesting, we have clear validation for the new direction of the game and are getting close – however, we’re too far away from the standards you deserve.” The company’s mobile gaming and PC online games division also saw a dip in revenue owing to the fact that there hadn’t been new releases that could contribute to sales figures. According to the report, the division made $318 million, which is a 12.6 percent drop from what it had made in the previous fin ancial year. Back in March, Sega had confirmed that sales for its new RPG, Metaphor: ReFantazio were quite strong, and that it would exceed the company’s initial forecasts. The company had also confirmed similarly strong performance from platforming title Sonic X Shadow Generations. The most recent release by the company has been Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, which is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
