  • GOG is Seemingly Planning to Introduce Monthly Subscriptions
    cgshares.com
Big or small, every digital video game store has a defining feature that sets it apart from the rest Steam boasts the largest selection of games and features, Epic Games Store prides itself on regular free game giveaways and a lower 12% marketplace cut, GOG stands out by offering DRM-free games, meaning once purchased, theyre truly owned, and so on.Apparently, the latter on this list may be on the verge of compromising its core shtick, with GOGs recent survey strongly suggesting that CD Projekt, the platforms owner, is considering introducing monthly subscriptions, potentially undermining the main appeal that has drawn customers to the platform.Highlighted in a recent Reddit post by user Noname_FTW, the survey in question includes a range of questions pertaining to subscription services and their potential introduction on GOG, asking about the services you currently use, the perks youd want from a GOG monthly subscription, how much youd be willing to pay each month, and what incentives would convince you to subscribe, among other topics.Following the initial discussions on social media and forums, ResetEra user gagewood also shared the survey itself, allowing you to check the questions firsthand and even leave a comment at the end to share your thoughts. You can participate in the survey by following this link.1 of 7Naturally, the gaming community largely disliked the idea of GOG introducing monthly subscriptions, mainly for the reason mentioned in this articles first paragraph subscription models being the polar opposite of the platforms main appeal of true game ownership, without which many feel there wouldnt be much reason to use GOG in the first place.Other points of criticism include concerns that a subscription model could worsen the experience for non-subscribers and that the survey itself is structured in a way that makes it difficult to criticize the idea in most of the questions. The backlash even prompted a response from GOG, with a representative assuring users that DRM wont be introduced and offline installers arent going anywhere, however, since the community grabbed torches and pitchforks because of the very notion of GOG adopting subscriptions, this reassurance did little to calm the debacle.Although neither the survey nor the representatives statement confirmed that CD Projekt is actively planning to add subscriptions to GOG, the idea becomes more understandable when viewed in the context of CDPRs recent financial report, which revealed that GOGs sales revenue declined year-over-year, dropping from 234,969 thousand PLN in 2023 to 199,338 thousand PLN in 2024.The platforms net profit paints an even darker picture with a drop of nearly 90% from 10,255 thousand PLN (around $2.65 million) in 2023 to just 1,134 thousand PLN (about $293,000) in 2024. Given this financial downturn, the introduction of monthly subscriptions on GOG appears to be not just a possibility, but an unavoidable certainty, unless CDPRs current and upcoming games, such as The Witcher 4, can come to the stores rescue.Dont forget to join our80 Level Talent platformand ournew Discord server, follow us onInstagram,Twitter,LinkedIn,Telegram,TikTok, andThreads, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.Source link The post GOG is Seemingly Planning to Introduce Monthly Subscriptions appeared first on CG SHARES.

  • Removal Of Swen Vincke-Praised BG3 For Stardew Valley Mod Is A Mistake, Said WoTC
    cgshares.com
Baldurs Village Mod TeamWhen an official crossover seems unlikely in the near future, some mods that let players enjoy our beloved games with new perspectives and characters become so welcome. Baldurs Village is such one, whose name clearly tells what it does: it adds more than 20 characters from Baldurs Gate 3 to Pelican Town, the world of Stardew Valley. When it was released earlier this month, it gained not only praise from players but also from Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke, who called it amazing work with so much love poured into this mod. However, it wasnt live for long, as it was taken offline following a DMCA notice from Wizards of the Coast, a subsidiary of Hasbro that has the rights for Dungeons & Dragons. You can imagine the communitys backlash to the takedown. Swen Vincke also raised his eyebrows with this piece of news. He shared his personal opinion, saying such quality mods, free of charge, actually are a unique form of word of mouth and shouldnt be treated like commercial ventures that infringe on your property.Soon, another turning point came. A few hours after the removal, WoTC changed their attitude, with a spokesperson telling PC Gamer that the takedown was not intended; it was a mistake, and they apologized. The Baldurs Village DMCA takedown was issued mistakenlywe are sorry about that. We are in the process of fixing that now so fans and the Stardew community can continue to enjoy this great mod!By the time this article is written, the mods page has not been restored yet, although this is expected to happen soon. If youd like to enjoy the unique crossover between the two beloved titles, dont hesitate to check it out here.Dont forget to join our80 Level Talent platformand ournew Discord server, follow us onInstagram,Twitter,LinkedIn,Telegram,TikTok, andThreads, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.Source link The post Removal Of Swen Vincke-Praised BG3 For Stardew Valley Mod Is A Mistake, Said WoTC appeared first on CG SHARES.

Phantom Blade Zero Director's Path From A Gifted Yale Graduate To Video Game DeveloperS-Game is the development studio behind Phantom Blade Zero, an upcoming samurai Soulslike with Chinese cultural elements. As an AAA project that attracted attention and anticipation following the success of Black Myth: Wukong, this Chinese studio's backstory is a point of interest for many.Recently, CEO and Game Director Liang Qiwei (Soulframe Liang) sat down with PC Gamer to talk about how he refused an offer from a company in New York after graduating from Yale with a master's degree in architecture and returning to China to set up his own indie studio to create video games.Their conversation started with how the online nickname Soulframe was created. Thanks to his hard-to-pronounce Chinese name in English, he got some random idea back in high school. "I just figured out something cool and not-so-usual, something fantasy and something solid coming together."This nickname has been used for so long, actually around 15 years, so he trademarked it in China. If you happen to be a fan of sci-fi shooter Warframe, developed by Digital Extremes, you might already know that its melee-oriented MMORPG sequel,Soulframe, was announced back in 2022. Whoopsie, same name here. The developers tried to reach out to Liang via Tencent to purchase the trademark but with no luck. "No, I'm not selling," he said with laughter.Back to the topic of how Liang chose a career path of creating games, it seems to be rooted in his passion for video games. He grew up as a gamer and started making games during his last couple of years of undergrad at Tsinghua University, a top-two university in China. And spending time to create games was a way to kill time during the first years after studying at Yale. It helped him make friends, some of whom are "from drama school doing set designs." Meanwhile, he was also a "teaching assistant for interactive architecture, which is very close to games."It sounds like being a game developer is a perfect path for Liang to take. In 2011, S-Game was registered. Over the years, the studio has expanded from a four-people team to more than a hundred developers working on Phantom Blade Zero. It was revealed at the 2023 PlayStation Showcase and received a new stunning trailer in February last year, showcasing the battle between the two main characters. Upon its launch, the game will be available on PlayStation 5 and PC, although the release window has not yet been announced.Last October, Soulframe Liang and Art Director Michael Chang talked abouttheir thoughts on the Chinese console market, how it evolved, and where it will head.

Take a look at this highly-detailed recreation of Fallout 4s Red Rocket truck stop, a location and one of the first settlements one would encounter in their playthrough, presented recently by 3D Artist and an avid Fallout 4 fan, ChanWoo Lee.According to the creator, the project, comprising a meticulously crafted exterior that is nearly indistinguishable from the original and the interior packed with Fallout-themed paraphernalia such as various weapons, ammo, and a full set of power armor, took five months to complete. To bring the scene to life, the artist used 3ds Max, ZBrush, RizomUV, Substance 3D Painter/Designer, and Unreal Engine, along with additional assets sourced from Megascans and Decagon. Its also worth noting that the Red Rocket project is ChanWoos first attempt at 3D environment art, as previously, the creator focused primarily on digital characters. Project TH is an upcoming action-adventure game from EVR Studio, set in a speculative near-future unified Korea. Although the release date remains uncertain, the developer has been working on it for quite a while and regularly shares updates, highlighting progress and various gameplay features. The latest video showcases a boss fight demo, blending precision-based third-person shooting with melee combos. It features a seamless flow of dashes, parries, QTE takedowns, aerial strikes, and more, creating a continuous combat experience with some sort of sci-fi vibe. These bosses are far from simple bullet sponges. With teleportation skills, parry-bait attacks, and unpredictable timing, they constantly push the player to adapt. And when tear gas is thrown mid-battle, the boss awakens, triggering a complete shift in the combat phase, along with entirely new attack patterns and skill sets, says the description. EVR Studio highlights that its goal is to create a hybrid fighting experience combining tactics, immersion, and cinematic execution.A few years back, we had the privilege of speaking with Dong-Jun Min, Co-Founder of EVR Studio, about the games development and the cultural influences shaping it. • Payday Creator Starbreeze Names New CEO the Same Day It Shuts Down French Office
    cgshares.com
Following financial underperformance and several tumultuous months in which it laid off around 50 employees, including multiple Project Baxter developers, PAYDAY developer Starbreeze continues its internal restructuring by appointing Adolf Kristjansson as the studios new Chief Executive Officer, effective April 1, 2025.StarbreezeRevealed in the studios official statement, the new CEO joins the team after spending over 13 years at Electronic Arts, where he served as International Commercial Senior Director, Global Head of Digital, and Global Strategic Franchise Director, working on FIFA, Battlefield, Apex, and Star Wars.It is also worth noting that Mats Juhl, the infamous interim CEO known for laying off developers left and right and being more concerned about developers using proper channels in SBZs Slack chat than the livelihood of his employees, was not ousted from the company and will continue serving as Starbreezes Chief Financial Officer.I join Starbreeze with great enthusiasm for the companys current and future projects, not the least the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons title, comments Kristjansson. I look forward to continuing the work of expanding the PAYDAY franchise further and building Starbreeze into a true multi-title studio. Most of all, I look forward to working closely with our talented teams and engaging with our passionate player community as we build the next chapter of Starbreeze together. The part Starbreezes official statement failed to mention, however, is that the appointment of the new CEO takes place on the same day the majority of the French office is losing their jobs, following Starbreezes decision to shut down the branch entirely.Previously, several Starbreeze employees from both the French and Stockholm offices told 80 Level that it was announced within the company in mid-March that more than half of the French employees would be dismissed by the end of March, with the remaining staff set to be let go by June. Whats more, the termination process appears to be violating several of Frances labor law, namely Articles L1222-1, L1132-1, and L1233-4 of Code du Travail. From what weve learned, the French division played a crucial role in the technical side of the production pipeline and was largely responsible for patches and DLCs for the companys games. Before the layoffs, it comprised 23 people, meaning most, if not all, of those 23 are likely to be made redundant by July, with the majority of them becoming jobless tomorrow. • Ubisoft Stock Down 15% Following Its Deal With Tencent
    cgshares.com
When last week, Ubisoft announcedthe upcoming formation of a new venture that would act as the de facto owner of its three biggest franchises Assassins Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancys Rainbow Six while featuring Tencent as a minority shareholder with a 25% stake, many questioned whether this move, along with the studios current financial and reputational state, would push investors to withdraw their funds from Ubisoft and invest in the newly established entity instead.UbisoftApparently, some of the investors do share this opinion, as Ubisofts stock dropped over 15% after markets opened on Monday, wiping out all the gains the company had made since late February. Moreover, the stock price surge the studio saw in October 2024 has also nearly vanished an ironic turn of events, considering that the October spike occurred on the same day and most likely as a result of Tencents reveal that it was in talks to fully acquire Ubisoft, suggesting that at least a portion of investors are more interested in Chinese giant taking complete control of Ubisoft and its IPs rather than the struggling studio spinning off its most valuable franchises.Following the market opening, Ubisofts stock rebounded by a few percentage points, but over the past few hours, the price graph has flattened currently sitting at -13% compared to where it was a day before raising questions about whether the companys decision to secure a quick cash injection through its deal with Tencent could come back to bite them in the back.Dont forget to join our80 Level Talent platformand ournew Discord server, follow us onInstagram,Twitter,LinkedIn,Telegram,TikTok, andThreads, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.Source link The post Ubisoft Stock Down 15% Following Its Deal With Tencent appeared first on CG SHARES.

In December, Andras Ketzer began working on FluidNinja LIVE 2.0, a new version of his real-time fluid simulation tool for Unreal Engine 5. Currently in pre-alpha and not yet available to the public, the tool is expected to enter a closed alpha phase in Q1-Q2 2025, followed by a public beta later on.Since then, the developer has shared a few videos, with the latest one highlighting a significant milestone: the introduction of mass and elevation averaging. If you watch the demo until the middle, youll notice how the rocky elevation becomes smoother as the water floods the creek bed. This demo simulates a 100m area at 2K resolution, achieving 260 FPS on NVIDIAs GeForce RTX 3080.FluidNinja LIVE 2.0 alpha will be available to a select group of users chosen for testing. The beta will be open to all indie users with an existing license, while large corporations will need to purchase a tier-2 FAB license. It will not be available for Student Version users.Overall, FluidNinja LIVE 2.0 will upgrade the 1.x version, maintaining backward compatibility and ensuring that current 1.x setups can transfer to 2.x. The entire system has been reworked in Niagara, and to reach a production-ready state, it will undergo extensive testing throughout 2025.Please note that FluidNinja LIVE 2.0 beta will be distributed via the dedicated Discord server, which you can join to stay updated on all the latest news and developments. Also, join our80 Level Talent platformand ournew Discord server, follow us onInstagram,Twitter,LinkedIn,Telegram,TikTok, andThreads, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.Source link The post Check Out Water Filling Gaps In NinjaLIVE 2.0 Pre-Alpha For UE5 appeared first on CG SHARES.

    cgshares.com
BlizzardOverwatch 2 was announced with a huge PvE presence, which was canceled after the game had already launched. Basically, we got the same old Overwatch with slightly changed mechanics and better graphics not quite enough to justify the 2 in the name. However, it might soon change, fans believe, as dataminers examined Season 16 files and found an interesting detail.Apparently, Blizzard has changed the names of skins: OW1 outfits will be called Classic, while OW2 Valorous. This made players wonder if Overwatch 2 would go back to the previous title a good decision, in my opinion, considering how little the games differ.Other than that, dataminer CF2lter has found some map images, skins, and dialogues as well as warnings and the hero ban display a feature weve heard about before when Blizzard announced Perks and the return of loot boxes.Do you think going back to simply Overwatch is a good idea? Despite its drastic improvement in recent years, for many, Fallout 76 is and forever will be remembered exclusively for its spectacularly disastrous launch, marred by the game being plagued by thousands of bugs and Bethesdas we arent planning on doing anything about it response to the canvas bag and Nuka Dark Rum controversies.Nate Purkeypile, the developer of The Axis Unseen and former Lead Artist at Bethesda, recently spoke at GDC 2025 about his decision to leave the company, revealing that one of the reasons behind his shift to indie development was the communitys reaction to Fallout 76 and describing the situation by saying, The internet can be really awful, apparently downplaying Bethesdas own role in the backlash that followed the games release.BethesdaAs stated by Purkeypile (via PC Gamer), he didnt want to deal with the wave of criticism that might arise from The Elder Scrolls 6, expressing belief that even if the highly anticipated sequel to Bethesdas flagship series comes out great, it will still be lambasted online. While theres no denying that even the greatest games have their fair share of haters, the other part of the former Lead Artists statement is less clear-cut, with Purkeypile, somewhat inexplicably, lumping death threats and hour-long YouTube videos together treating them as if they were the same thing, despite the former being made by the lowest of the low and the latter typically created by dedicated fans concerned about the direction of their favorite game series. The developer further stated that if you put out a game that people dont like, you know the internets gonna treat you like theyre clubbing baby seals, once again seemingly soft-pedaling the responsibility of AAA studios in the backlash their titles often face. I was pretty sure that no matter what I didnt put in a game, it wasnt going to be anything like that with that level of exposure, Purkeypile added, pointing out that indie games dont face as much criticism as the titles from major studios.Whether Purkeypile was solely addressing the kind of criticism universally condemned by the gaming community such as threats of violence and doxxing or suggesting that the internet itself is the real issue, rather than AAA studios releasing subpar games, remains open to ones interpretation due to the ambiguity of the original statement.A similar ambiguity was recently noted in an interview with an anonymous Ubisoft employee, who revealed that the studio had assembled a legal team prepared to sue anyone who harasses Assassins Creed Shadows developers.By failing to clarify what harassment entailed, the revelation divided the gaming community, with some trusting that Ubisoft meant genuine harassment tactics like the ones described above and others worrying that harmless online trolling or criticism of Assassins Creed Shadows might also be categorized as harassment, with the studio using the threat of legal action as an intimidation tactic. So, what are your thoughts on Nate Purkeypiles statement? • Creating Autumn Leaves Simulation with SDF Nodes
    cgshares.com
Technical Artist Shahzod Boyhonov, the creator of Cell Fluids, has shared a new experiment with Blenders functions and showcased this fascinating demo. The artist has been experimenting with the options of the SDF nodes in Geometry Nodes in Blender 4.5. According to the artist, in the setup, 30K particles collide with a complex scene in real-time, and the scene is baked into the SDF grid. The creator explained that the SDF allows for this simulation, as the traditional mesh collisions have to loop every polygon in the scene and calculate intersections for each particle. However, with SDF, you only need to sample the 3D grid once to get the distance to the closest geometry. Before, Shahzod Boyhonov unveiled a tool for visualizing fire writing and a setup forcreating convex collision meshes from bone vertex data using Geometry Nodes:Follow Shahzod Boyhonov onX/Twitter anddont forget to join our 80 Level Talent platform and our new Discord server, follow us on Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Telegram, TikTok, and Threads, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.Source link The post Creating Autumn Leaves Simulation with SDF Nodes appeared first on CG SHARES.
