Hello and welcome back to our regular feature where we write a little bit about some of the games we've been playing. This week Bertie has mixed feelings about Split Fiction, Ed discovers he really likes Elden Ring Nightreign but wants more from it after the campaign, and Donlan appreciates a game unfolding before him.

    Split Fiction, PS5

Split Fiction. I'd quite like to read a dual-perspective fantasy and sci-fi story, actually. Wait, did I just describe Star Wars?Watch on YouTube
I've been eager to try this for a while. I was fond of It Takes Two and the reception around Split Fiction has been enormously enthusiastic. Also, I love that there's a studio like Hazelight dedicating itself to making co-op games - not just games that can be played in co-op but games that require it. It's weird that it should be an unusual thing these days, but it is and I'm totally here for it.
I like it - I like the game. In parts, I love it, and I think I'd expected this reaction more.
The parts I love: its fluidity. This is a colder, technical thing to praise, but it makes the game so invitingly touchable and toylike because of the way it responds and moves. Big tick. Two: the set-up for the game works superbly in that having two writers' stolen stories to choose from, Hazelight gives itself a potentially bottomless source of ideas to hop between without lingering in one for too long. It's perfectly fine for one world to contain only one idea, which many of them do. And who doesn't want to play on a level where you surf around on a sand shark?
But what I struggle with also relates to this. There's a thinness, sometimes, to the game; a feeling that ideas are cycled through so quickly they're not given enough time - or developer investment - to breathe or be developed as fully as they could. You kind of skim through them and it can lead to repetitiveness as the game bumps back into ideas it's already used, or a sense of pointlessness as it scrambles to come up with ideas it hasn't used before.
Look, overall, brilliant: it's a joyous collection of co-op ideas delivered with tip-top technical nous, and not a small amount of charm and style. But I'm waiting for it - and really willing it - to take off.

    Elden Ring Nightreign, PS5

All aboard the Souls train!Watch on YouTube
I've been having a very Soulsy time of it recently. Last week I wrote about how Sekiro was causing me existential fury, and I'm pleased to say I broke through that to finally beat the game and see the credits, and that I don't have to play it any more.
In its place, I've been playing another tricky game: FromSoftware's new Elden Ring spin-off Nightreign. Go it alone and it's one of the studio's most challenging games; but with others it's an exhilarating experience, as I wrote in our review. And despite finishing the game for the review, I still want to carry on playing it.
I still haven't mastered each of the eight Nightfarers and I'm keen to play it more with friends now it's officially been released. But I do feel the game has finite appeal. Once the Nightfarers are beaten and all the character stories have been completed, Nightreign - as much as I loved it - doesn't have the replayability other multiplayer games do.
Yet what FromSoftware has created is so heavily structured, it could easily add more building blocks to extend the game. There's DLC on the way at least but there's potential for a full live-service game of seasonal events on its map, with additional bosses and characters and costumes. It doesn't have to be a free-to-play, microtransaction mess, but just give it some regular support. Nightreign is something I'd happily play for months if it was regularly refreshed.
Of course, this would likely be at the expense of whatever big new single-player game Miyazaki is working towards, and there's still The Duskbloods coming to Switch 2 next year to satisfy any lingering multiplayer desires. At the least, I love that FromSoftware has the capability and flexibility to experiment with this sort of spin-off. It might not be to everyone's taste, but it's left me wanting more.

    Öoo, PC

Öoo. What does that mean in ghost speak I wonder?Watch on YouTube
Here's the latest game by the creator of ElecHead, that brilliant and ingenious blend of puzzling and platforming. ElecHead was all about electricity. This time it's all about bombs. At least in the current Steam demo it is. You're a caterpillar who can create bombs, and those bombs?
Early on they can send you shooting upwards to catch high ledges. But maybe they can shunt you across gaps too? Uh-oh, what do you do when the walls and ceilings have spikes, and what do you do when there's a big frog blocking your path?
The pleasure of a game like this is partly the sense of watching an idea unfold itself, as the designer slowly discovers all the possible consequences and wrinkles and inversions. It helps that the game looks so beautiful and dinky and strange, with those progress-blocking frogs, yes, but also walls that seem to have the folds of brain tissue.
I am playing the demo very happily and I suspect I'll replay it many times before the final game is out. It's lovely to be at the start of something like this, where the ideas are new, but the contours of thought behind it all seem to be warmly familiar.

The Best Memorial Day TV Deals We've Found So Far
Memorial Day is one of the best times of the year to score a great deal on a new TV. This year, Memorial Day weekend runs from Friday, May 23 to Monday, May 26. If you don't get in on a TV deal now, your next two chances are Amazon Prime Day in July and Black Friday in November. I've rounded up the best TV deals currently available from popular retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy. Several TVs are also on sale through eBay thanks to a limited time 20% off Memorial Day coupon (I've only listed eBay vendors that are authorized resellers). Check out all of the deals below.65" LG Evo C4 4K OLED Smart TV for $1,19765" LG Evo C4 4K OLED Smart TVAs part of the Amazon Memorial Day Sale, the retailer has dropped the price on the 65" LG Evo C4 4K OLED TV. It normally retails for $2,499.99, but right now you can get it for $1,196.90 with free delivery. That's nearly half off the list price and the best deal I've seen for the 2024 65" model. It's also $1,000 less expensive than the 2025 65" LG Evo C5, which makes this the far better value. The LG Evo C-series of TV has consistently been our favorite high-end 4K TV for current generation console gaming thanks to its outstanding image quality, low input lag, and high refresh rate.65" Samsung S90D 4K OLED Smart TV for $1,0382024 model65" Samsung S90D 4K OLED Smart TVElectronics Express va eBay is currently offering the 2024 65" Samsung S90D 4K OLED Smart TV for just $1,038.39 shipped after you apply a $500 off coupon code "MEMORIALDEALS" in your shipping cart. This is an excellent TV to pair up with your PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X. This is a true quantum dot (QLED) OLED TV and is considered to as good as or better than the popular LG C4 OLED TV. According to RTINGS, the Samsung S90D is a brighter TV with a wider color gamut, better color volume, wider viewing angle, and better HDR gradient handling. Electronics Express is an authorized Samsung reseller with over 200,000 eBay user ratings with 99.2% positive feedback.50" Hisense U6H 4K QLED Google TV for $21850" Hisense U6H 4K QLED Google TVBudget TV shoppers, this TV deal is for you. Walmart is currently offering a 50" Hisense U6H 4K Smart TV for only $218 with free shipping. This is an older 2023 model, but it includes premium features you usually need to pay extra for, like quantum dot (QLED) technology and full-array LED backlighting for wider color gamut, richer colors, and higher contrast ratio, ALLM, and VRR. This TV has a native 60Hz refresh rate, but it does feature 240Hz motion rate technology to reduce blurring in fast-action scenes.65" Panasonic W95 4K Mini-LED Fire TV for $599.99Other sizes also on sale65" Panasonic W95 4K Mini-LED Fire TV75" Panasonic W95 4K Mini-LED Fire TV85" Panasonic W95 4K Mini-LED Fire TV55" Panasonic W95 4K Mini-LED Fire TVPanasonic is back in the TV game, and this time it's focusing on only offering higher-end Mini-LED and OLED models. For Memorial Day, Amazon is offering big discounts on the Panasonic W95 series TVs, which feature Mini-LED technology and local dimming. In a Mini-LED panel, the LEDs are smaller and more numerous, which allows for finer control of brightness levels within the same scene. The W95 is also a great candidate for playing games on a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X console because it's equipped with a native 144Hz panel that can run games in 4K at up to 144fps over HDMI 2.1.43" Vizio 4K QLED Smart TV for $18443" Vizio 4K Roku TVElectronics Express via eBay is offering this 43" Vizio TV for only $183.99 shipped after you apply a $500 off coupon code "MEMORIALDEALS" in your shipping cart. You'd be hard pressed to find another 43" TV for under $200, especially one that features quantum dot (QLED) panel technology. This is an excellent TV to pair with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console for a docked gaming experience.77" Sony Bravia 8 4K OLED Google TV for $1,99877" Sony Bravia 8 4K OLED Google TVeBay's Memorial Day TV deals bonanza continues. Electronics Express via eBay is also offering this massive 77" Sony Bravia 8 4K OLED Google TV for an incredible price of $1,998 shipped after you apply a $500 off coupon code "MEMORIALDEALS" in your shipping cart. That's the best price we've seen for this recent 2024 model and an excellent option for streaming 4K HDR movies and playing games in 4K at up to 120fps on your PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X gaming console. Hello and welcome back to our regular feature where we write a little bit about some of the games we've been playing. This week, Bertie caves and installs the time-hogging phenomenon known as Balatro; Jim returns to the noir-like artistry of Grand Theft Auto 4; and Ed bangs his head repeatedly against Sekiro.

    Balatro, PS5

Snap! Wait, that's not the right game, is it?Watch on YouTube
I did it: I finally caved and played Balatro. It's free with PlayStation Plus at the moment so I thought why not? Let me explain that hesitation quickly. I've never really liked Poker. I tend to defiantly not like what everyone else likes, I don't know why, and I also struggle to be serious for extended periods of time. The thought of sitting around a table with a 'Poker' face on, for hours on end, seems like torture to me.
But I bit, and guess what? No surprise: I really liked it. I had to search for what a couple of the poker hands meant, because I didn't know my flushes from my straights - and I guess there's some assumed knowledge on the game's part there - but otherwise, I wasstraight in. Time to being hooked: about five minutes.
I love the immediacy of games like this. I know I'm predisposed to liking quick-play deckbuilding games - they just work wonderfully with my mental wiring - but there's clearly a skill to onboarding people in a way that's fun and frictionless, and Balatro has got it. There's no waiting for the game to begin, you just press go and learn as you play.
Anyway, brb, see you in a few hundred hours.

    Grand Theft Auto 4

Which GTA protagonists are the best?Watch on YouTube
I've been replaying GTA 4 for a Thing I'm working on and rediscovering just how bold a game it is. Big budget video games tend to default to a sort of pseudo-photorealism as their visual style, and there's nothing wrong with that. As we know from a century of pointing lights and cameras at real actors, there is plenty of scope for creativity within that. But it is often a safe choice. With a triple-A budget comes the expectation to have the triple-A 'look', essentially mimicking what the real lights, cameras, and actors are doing at the time.
GTA 4 doesn't have that look. It looks like GTA 4, with its unmistakable forever autumn draping a decaying urban sprawl in soft baths of burnt orange. With its desaturated neo-noir nights pocked with bursts of colour where city lights cut the dour air.
It's a look that fully serves the themes of the game: a dismantling of the American Dream as experienced through the eyes of an immigrant - a war-damaged man fleeing a war-damaged society, only to find, like millions of people before him, that the problems from an old world tend to follow you to the new.
Niko’s is a bleak life with fleeting moments of triumph and fleeting moments of levity, and his Liberty City reflects this in every flaking piece of paint and every particle of billowing trash. GTA 4 sticks resolutely and defiantly to its aesthetic of grime and decay in much the same way the underrated shooter Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days did, in
sending the player into an unwaveringly grim handicam snuff film and revelling in their discomfort. Both games are miraculous works of art.
Plus in GTA 4, the stockmarket is called BAWSAQ, which is funny.

    Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, PS4

Here's Aoife sharing in some of Ed's Sekiro frustration.Watch on YouTube
I don't think I've ever been as angry as when I play Sekiro. I'm not just talking about being a bit frustrated. I'm talking 'existential why the hell am I doing this to myself' despondency. I am not enjoying it, but I can't stop playing it.
I know I shouldn't let it get to me. Get a grip Ed, it's just a silly little video game. I should really just learn to git gud, right? But: sigh.
For context, this is the last big FromSoftware game I'm yet to finish, and I've started it three times now. I'm determined to finish it - I've come too far with these games to stop now. But Sekiro just hasn't clicked for me like the studio's other games have. In part that's down to aesthetics, I think, as I just vibe more with the dark fantasy of Souls and twisted Gothism of Bloodborne than I do the Japanese horror of Sekiro.
But also it's to do with combat. It's so focused on a single method of fighting - parry parry parry - that there's no room for the expression or build variety that I really like. I do enjoy how rhythmical parrying can be, but each boss encounter feels like I'm banging my head against a wall, much more so than any other game of this type. At least the end is in sight as I only have the final boss to go.
At this point I'm just playing Sekiro out of stubbornness and spite, and I'm not sure what to be disappointed in, the game or myself.

  • The Biggest Memorial Day Sales for 2025 We've Found for Every Category

Memorial Day weekend is still more than half a work week away, but the most of the sales have already arrived at some of the biggest online retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, Costco, Home Depot, and Walmart. While prices may not be quite as good as Prime Day or the Black Friday season, these discounts are still a great opportunity to save money. To help you sort through what's live and what isn't, I've put together a quick list of all of the biggest Memorial Day sales already happening ahead of the weekend. I'll be updating this page with all of the new sales as they go live ahead of the weekend. The Best Memorial Day Sales Live NowThe Biggest SaleAmazon Memorial Day SaleSee it at AmazonTech and AppliancesBest Buy Memorial Day SaleSee it at Best BuyRetailer SaleWalmart Memorial Day SaleSee it at WalmartFurnitureWayfair Memorial Day saleSee it at WayfairPC and LaptopsHP Memorial Day SaleSee it at HPAppliances and FurnitureHome Depot Memorial Day SaleSee it at Home DepotClothing and Outdoor GearREI Anniversary SaleSee it at REIRetailer SaleTarget Memorial Day SaleSee it at TargetAppliances and FurnitureLowes Memorial Day SaleSee it at LowesSelect DealseBay Memorial Day SaleSee it at eBayRetailer SaleCostco Memorial Day SaleSee it at CostcoMattressesCasper Memorial Day SaleSee it at CasperMattressesDreamCloud Mattress SaleSee it at DreamCloudPC and LaptopsDell Memorial Day SaleSee it at DellPC and LaptopsLenovo Memorial Day SaleSee it at LenovoGaming chairs and desksSecretlab Memorial Day SaleSee it at SecretlabShoes and SportswearAdidas Memorial Day SaleSee it at AdidasFurniture and KitchenwareCrate&Barrel Memorial Day SaleSee it at Crate&BarrelKitchenwareWilliams Sonoma Memorial Day SaleSee it at Williams SonomaMattressesSleep Number Memorial Day SaleSee it at Sleep NumberAppliancesLG Memorial Day SaleSee it at LGClothingMacy's Memorial Day SaleSee it at Macy'sSportswear and Outdoor GearDick's Sporting Goods Memorial Day SaleSee it at Dick'sOffice FurnitureFlexiSpot Memorial Day SaleSee it at FlexiSpotGaming ChairsAndaSeat Memorial Day SaleSee it at AndaSeatTuft & Needle Memorial Day SaleSee it at Tuft & NeedleI've been covering and shopping Memorial Day sales for years and, honestly, I'm not that impressed with a lot of the discounts we've seen so far from these retailers. That being said, it is still fairly early in the week and I expect to see prices drop a bit more before the weekend. Memorial Day isn't until May 26 this year, and many smaller retailers will likely launch their sales closer to the actual holiday weekend.Should you shop Memorial Day sales or wait for better discounts? The biggest question around Memorial Day sales in general is whether you should shop now or wait for better deals later in the year. In the past, we could usually count on upcoming sales events like Prime Day and Black Friday to have the lowest prices of the year on just about everything. Unfortunately, there has been a lot of confusion around tariffs and price increases in 2025 and it seems almost certain that baseline prices on many goods in the U.S. are probably going to go up before the end of the year.If you're hoping to save as much money as possible in 2025, Memorial Day sales are definitely worth considering. Tariffs on most Chinese imports are likely to affect prices later in the year, so if you find a really good price on something you need right now, don't hesitate to pick it up before the price can go up.What Should You Buy During Memorial Day Sales? While there are certainly exceptions, I have generally found that the best Memorial Day sales tend to be for the same few categories every year. Unlike bigger shopping events like Black Friday, discounts tend to be more focused around home goods, consumer electronics, and clothing. Here's a quick breakdown of what is absolutely worth buying during Memorial Day weekend.Top Deals TodayAfter combing through all of the Memorial Day promotions that are already live, I've found that the Amazon sale has the best overall discounts. This includes things like a Star Wars LEGO set deal and discounted iPads that are at their best prices of the year. Below I've curated some of the top deals from that sale into a neat little catalog for you to browse.Lowest Ever Price65" LG Evo C4 4K OLED Smart TVLowest Ever PriceThe New Apple iPad 11-inchLowest Ever PriceRing Battery DoorbellLowest Ever PriceThrone of Glass Hardcover Box SetLowest Ever PriceLEGO Star Wars The Mandalorian HelmetLowest Ever PriceKingdom Come: Deliverance IILowest Ever PriceSamsung 49" Odyssey OLED G9Series Curved Smart Gaming MonitorSee it at AmazonLowest Price EverChar-Broil 3-Burner Cabinet Style Gas GrillLowest Ever PriceTraeger Grills Woodridge Pro Electric Wood Pellet Grill and SmokerLowest Ever PriceColeman Pro 45qt Ultra-Light Premium Hard CoolerFurniturePerhaps the overall best thing to buy during Memorial Day sales is furniture. Unless you're getting a really cheap nightstand from Ikea, furniture is generally expensive. Memorial Day deals are an excellent time to save a ton of money on pretty much every type of furniture, including desks, gaming chairs, and outdoor patio options. While you can find these deals at most major retailers like Amazon, Target, and Walmart, I'd recommend starting with the Wayfair Memorial Day sale. Though if you're on the hunt for a gaming chair specifically, the Secretlab sale and AndaSeat sales are the way to go. There are also some pretty good discounts at FlexiSpot on various types of office furniture, including popular standing desks.FurnitureWayfair Memorial Day saleSee it at WayfairGaming chairs and desksSecretlab Memorial Day SaleSee it at SecretlabFurniture and KitchenwareCrate&Barrel Memorial Day SaleSee it at Crate&BarrelOffice FurnitureFlexiSpot Memorial Day SaleSee it at FlexiSpotGaming ChairsAndaSeat Memorial Day SaleSee it at AndaSeatMajor AppliancesPurchasing a major appliance for your home is going to be expensive no matter when you do it, but Memorial Day sales can help mitigate that cost a fraction. Major appliances like refrigerators, washing machines, and ovens are all on sale right now across quite a number of retailers. You can find these deals at Costco, Best Buy, Home Depot, and Lowes currently. Some of the sales are straight discounts while others are a buy one, get one free situation. Below are the sales I'd recommend shopping if you're on the hunt for new appliances. Best Buy is a great option for most brands, but you can also get a free refrigerator from LG direct if you're only looking for the best fridge deal.Tech and AppliancesBest Buy Memorial Day SaleSee it at Best BuyAppliancesLG Memorial Day SaleSee it at LGAppliances and FurnitureHome Depot Memorial Day SaleSee it at Home DepotRetailer SaleCostco Memorial Day SaleSee it at CostcoAppliances and FurnitureLowes Memorial Day SaleSee it at LowesTVsThere are actually a lot of good times to buy a new TV throughout the year, but Memorial Day weekend is consistently one of the best times to find discounts on newer TVs. This likely has something to do with the TV release cycle as we are now about halfway through the year and the latest TVs have finally started to drop in price. If you're looking to buy a great new television for a good price, I'd recommend picking up the LG C4 that just dropped to its lowest price ever. However, there are already plenty of other TV deals to choose from.Lowest Price Ever65" LG Evo C4 4K OLED Smart TVLowest Price EverSAMSUNG 55-Inch Class QLED 4K QN85D Series Mini LEDLowest Price EverLG 55-Inch Class UT75 Series LED Smart TV 4K2024 ModelSony - 65" Class BRAVIA 8 OLED 4K UHD Smart Google TVMattressesAlthough mattresses technically count as furniture, I've broken them out into their own category because of the sheer number of Memorial Day mattress sales. Memorial Day weekend is far and away one of the best times to buy a mattress every year – you likely won't find lower prices even on Black Friday. The Biggest Memorial Day Sales for 2025 We've Found for Every Category
• First Impressions: We've Played Three SEGA Games On Switch 2

Sega has positioned itself as a staunch early supporter of the Switch 2, offering up three key titles on day one and three more to follow later on.
While we've yet to experience the full lineup, Sega invited us to check out a trio of launch-period titles in what marked our first extended experience with the Switch 2 completely untethered from any kind of demo kiosk. Wild stuff!
But we're not here to talk about the hardware; more on that will come soon enough. This is all about the games, so let's kick things off with Kiryu...Subscribe to Nintendo Life on YouTube813kWatch on YouTube
    Yakuza 0: Director's Cut
    Image: Sega
Upon booting up this Director’s Cut of this 2015 game, the first thing that strikes us is just how clean it looks. Sure, we’ve had some really great-looking games on the original Switch, but there was something about Yakuza 0 that screams premium.
It may simply be because we've played the game extensively before, and usually when you move from PS4 to original Switch, you expect some pretty heavy visual compromises. On Switch 2, there’s nothing of the sort. Yakuza 0 looks exactly like it does on the PS4; perhaps even better, with razor-sharp image clarity and exceptionally smooth frame rate. It’s glorious.
The single-player portion of the demo stars fan-favourite Goro Majima. The lengthy dialogue sequences within the main story gave us a good sense of how voice actor Matthew Mercercomes across as the voice of Majima, and honestly, he’s pretty good! Ultimately, while we suspect many of you will stick to the original Japanese dub, we reckon you’ll be pretty happy with the English version, too.
    Images: Sega
If you’ve played Yakuza Kiwami on Switch, you’ll feel right at home here. Once we were let loose to explore the immediate environment of Sotenbori, we were free to take on gang members skulking in the shadows, chat to NPCs to initiate side quests, and – unfortunately – get absolutely annihilated in a shakedown fight.
The aforementioned side quest in this case was the ‘Be My Boyfriend!’ mission, which sees Majima play the role of doting partner to a girl who just wants to impress her father. It’s a hilarious sequence completely devoid of any combat, but the dialogue really highlights just how funny the series can be. In fact, if you make the right dialogue choices, the father winds up begging you to be his daughter’s boyfriend for real!
We also looked at the new multiplayer mode, Red Light Raid. It’s a pretty simple setup: you and up to four friends combine forces to take on hordes of enemies, and that’s really it. Once you complete the designated number of waves based on your chosen difficulty, you’ll face off against a boss character, which is usually one of the notable characters from the main game. It’s chaotic, it’s fun, but it’s also ultimately pretty shallow.
    Images: Sega
The number of playable characters was quite limited in the demo, but in addition to the likes of Kiryu, Majima, Kuze, and Nishikiyama, you’ve also got deeper cuts like the utterly outrageous Ginger Chapman, whose slow, hulking frame is compensated for with a deadly melee weapon.
It’s a neat little mode which you can also play solo if you desire, but we suspect most players will be sticking to the excellent story mode, which remains one of the very best in the Yakuza series.
RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army
    Image: Sega

We have to admit, Raidou Remastered isn’t the best game to demo over the course of 20 minutes or so. That said, our time with it did at least give us a taste of what to expect in terms of exploration, interactions, and combat.
The demo mostly took place within the town of Tsukudo-cho, home of the Narumi Detective Agency headquarters. We were free to explore and chat with the locals, but some of them didn’t have a whole lot to say. This is where you’re able to break out one of your demon companions and read characters’ minds. This way, you can get a sense of what it is they’re after and thus help them out accordingly.
Moving around the town revealed that the camera was essentially fixed in place, shifting perspective whenever protagonist Raidouwould turn onto a different street. There were a few instances where the change in camera angle felt a little off and it was quite difficult to judge which direction we had to go – it’s no classic Resident Evil, that’s for sure. Still, wandering about the town was fun, and the accompanying music was oddly serene and comforting.
    Images: Sega
The action really kicks into gear when you deliver some wine to the ‘Big Tarrasque’ creature dwelling within the Daidouji Residence basement. Once this weird turtle/ape hybrid decides Raidou would be perfect pairing with the wine, a battle commences. Unlike most Shin Megami Tensei games, Raidou allows you to run around the arena and attack at will, with different moves mapped to the various Switch 2 face buttons.
Actions such as attacking an enemy, exploiting weaknesses, or even healing will build up Spirit during the battle. Once you gain enough Spirit, you can unleash a powerful Spirit Slash attack with ‘A’ + ‘X’, hitting all enemies within the area. Initiating the move results in a brief, slick cutscene in which Raidou unleashes a wave of fire with a few quick strokes of his sword. It’s pretty awesome.
    Images: Sega
All in all, the battle mechanics feel intuitive and responsive, and should appeal to those who are intrigued by the world of Shin Megami Tensei but otherwise put off by the often daunting turn-based mechanics. Here, the action feels a bit more akin to something you might find in a modern Final Fantasy game. It’s a nice change of pace, and we can’t wait to see how it develops and evolves as you proceed further into the game.
While we barely scratched the surface of Raidou, we're really excited for this one. Yes, the graphics don't exactly scream next-gen, but this is nevertheless an extensive upgrade from the PS2 original. Definitely one to keep an eye on.
    Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S
    Image: Sega

We suspect that the biggest question mark for Sega fans might well be Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S, a game that, on the surface at least, looks like more of the same for another £35 on Switch 2. What exactly is the point?
Well, to be honest, this one is definitely more likely to appeal to those who have yet to dive into the series, but the chaos involved with the new Doubles Mode might just be enough to convince die-hard fans to double-dip.
Doubles Mode essentially has you and a friend team up to take on your opponents. The twist, however, is that you’re not in charge of your own Puyo Puyo / Tetris board each, but rather you’re working together on a single board. This means that you have to actually communicate with each other to determine where each player will place their piece. Get it right, and you can accomplish some pretty devastating combos. It’s very easy to mess up, however, and this is down to friendly collision.
    Images: Sega
You see, you’d think that you’d be able to move your pieces wherever you want, regardless of where your friend is positioned on the board. Not so. You actually have to move out of each other’s way, and if you happen to collide with each other, the resulting confusion will cost precious time. It’s pretty chaotic and we weren’t sure what to make of it at first, but as long as you maintain communication and decide who’s doing what, it’s certainly manageable and even quite enjoyable.
What’s not enjoyable, however, are the optional mouse controls – emphasis on ‘optional’. Granted, we didn’t get a whole lot of time with the game, so there’s every chance that a bit more time will yield a more positive impression of the controls, but it just felt weird.
Essentially, moving the Joy-Con around on a surface will cause the corresponding Tetris block or Puyo blob to move in the same direction – much like a desktop cursor on a PC. Clicking ‘R’ allows you to rotate your piece, but the real kicker is how you perform a hard drop. Normally, if you’re using a standard D-pad setup, this would be accomplished by tapping up; so you line up your piece with left and right and tap up to hard drop – easy. With the mouse mode, however, you have to twist your thumb around to rest on the analogue stick, then pull it down.
    Images: Sega
It’s such a bizarre setup, we couldn’t properly get to grips with it in the time that we had, and ultimately we just switched back to standard controls so we could focus on the game itself. If we’re able to remap controls and have the hard drop function mapped to a face button or even ‘ZR’, this might prove a compelling control method. As it is, it’s not something we can recommend.
Ultimately, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S is more of the same, and we imagine there are fans out there just waiting to get this downloaded on the new console. Newcomers have a lot to dive into, including Adventure Mode, Skill Battle, and more, but for those more casual fans who already own Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 elsewhere, we get the impression you won't be missing out on too much if you skip this one at launch.

Another one of those block-dropping feats

So that's yer lot for now! Overall, we're pretty pleased with Sega's upcoming output for the Switch 2. None of these games will do much to convince the layman that the system is a massive step up from its predecessor in terms of raw power, but if you're someone who values a strong cadence of great games early in a console's lifespan, you'll like what Sega's got waiting in the wings.
Huge thanks to Sega for the opportunity to check these out. Yakuza 0 and Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S will be joined by Sonic X Shadow Generations on 5th June, while RAIDOU Remastered will launch shortly after on 19th June. Two Point Museum is "2025" and Virtua Fighter 5 REVO doesn't have a date yet.

Subscribe to Nintendo Life on YouTube813k Sega has positioned itself as a staunch early supporter of the Switch 2, offering up three key titles on day one and three more to follow later on. While we've yet to experience the full lineup, Sega invited us to check out a trio of launch-period titles in what marked our first extended experience with the Switch 2 completely untethered from any kind of demo kiosk. Hello and welcome back to our regular feature where we write a little bit about some of the games we've been playing. This week, Bertie returns to Oblivion after nearly 20 years; Marie plucks up the courage to wipe an Animal Crossing save 300 hours in the making; and Donlan - who's back with us for a week - finds an ingenious little game about mazes.

Oblivion now and Oblivion then. Oblivithen.Watch on YouTube

What is it about remaking games from our past that is so appealing? I question this a lot when another remake whirls around, Oblivion being the latest of them. I loved that game; is love the right word? I played it a lot. It means a lot to me. But I don't believe it was devoid of problems. There's only so many caves one can explore. Regardless, back around Oblivion has come, and I've been questioning why.
But at the same time I've been excited about it. I thought a lot about returning to Oblivion in the past. Perhaps it was something to do with having already spent the effort to learn the game and get competent with it, or because I wanted to be back in that sunny fantasy world. Whatever the reason, I've been putting it off because Oblivion looked old. Now, though, it isn't. Oblivion is new again.
So far, I'm really impressed. I've only played the opening partin the prison and sewers and up to the iconic 'Oblivion moment', as you emerge into the wider world, and technologically speaking it's great. It's smooth and handsome - it takes me back to the first time I explored the game and wowed by how nice it looked. It's like playing the Oblivion of my memory.
I hope it lasts; I've been told it doesn't. Digital Foundry's Tom Morgan was telling me the performance is abysmal as you get out into the world proper. But for now, it's fine and I get it - I get the desire to return to places we've been.

    Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Switch

Ian and Aoife show off their Animal Crossing islands.Watch on YouTube
I deleted my almost 300-hundred hour Island that I'd curated during Lockdown. Instant regret washed over me as I looked at mybasic Island with nothing on it except a few villagers and Tom Nook explaining another money-making scheme to take my Bells again.
But all those hours experimenting with different Island formations and spending a copious amount of time in the Island Designer app creating interwoven rivers, ponds, waterfalls, cliffs had not been wasted, as I'd first feared. My last Island had been the perfect test run for creating my vision this time around; and that's when it occurred to me that starting again was the best idea I'd had yet. Sure, I do miss having all of the services and places unlockedwhenever I want to use them, but being able to start fresh has allowed me to think more about where I want to place everything.
Currently, Nook's Cranny has just upgraded again and the Able Sisters have finally opened their shop, so now I'm considering where to permanently move them.. Not only that but I'm thinking more strategically about how I use my Bells based on my previous experience. I won't waste so many Bells repeatedly moving the villager houses into different formations until I find one I like. I'll take my time to consider each move carefully first.
Starting again has also given me more opportunities to think about how I want the rest of the island to look. Do I want to create a lush forest-themed Island filled with plants? Do I want to create a town reminiscent of a seaside paradise?Perhaps I could even make both by splitting the Island in two! Oh and for the record, my last island became a disorganised mess that r didn't have any character or l feel to it.t felt like what it was: a test run for ideas which didn't work out.
What I initially worried was a terrible judgement call, then, became the best in-game choice I'd made in a long time. It's made me fall in love with Animal Crossing all over again.

    20 Small Mazes, PC

Small Mazes by Fleb.Watch on YouTube
20 Small Mazes is one of those games that feels like a gift. It is a gift, of course, because it's literally free, but it's also a gift because it's wildly generous. A bunch of mazes arranged like papers on a desk for you to sift through and enjoy, and an approach to mazes that even extends to the start menu.
Every now and then I remember 20 Small Mazes exists and I head back in. Today I spent two minutes playing an ingenious maze in which I moved between three overlapping mazes of different colours, all with slightly different arrangements of paths. The idea is to go as far as you can in one colour, switch, and then keep going.
There's probably a whole game in this - it feels like the kind of thing WayForward was cranking on in games like Mighty Flip Champs! But here it is, and it's free, and it's a perfect little thing that contains so much ingenuity.

  • The Best And Wildest Grand Theft Auto 6 Theories We've Seen So Far
Lots of time to think...Both times Rockstar Games has dropped a new Grand Theft Auto VI trailer so far, the internet has been set ablaze. First, the heat comes from the excitement of people who have been waiting for this game for over a decade. Eventually, though, that excitement turns to wonder--and then the theorizing begins.Trailer 2 for GTA VI--which was released with no warning on May 6--is no exception. All corners of the internet have been combing the three-minute trailer for clues, references, or anything else that may provide some sort of window into what the next GTA adventure is going to include. We've completed some of our favorite theories here, from those who think the game might be bigger than Leonida can contain, to a few ideas about how Jason and Lucia's relationship is going to end up--spoiler warning for those theories, they don't think things are going to end well.Note that this is all speculation based on the trailer--like how the trailer seems to tip off some of the many side activities Jason and Lucia can get up to--and we won't know what's actually going to happen until Grand Theft Auto VI launches on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 on May 26, 2026. Liberty City is in GTA VILiberty City is a key landmark for the GTA franchise--multiple core GTA games have taken place there, and co-protagonist Lucia is said to have moved to Leonida from Liberty City. There are multiple references to Liberty City in the trailer--from headwear to license plates--and that's got some GTA theorists thinking we may be headed back there at some point in the GTA VI story, even if only for a little while--even if it's a situation like GTA V's missions in North Yankton. Finally listen to GTA radio outside of a carAmong the many screenshots released alongside Trailer 2 in early May, we see Lucia relaxing in a pool with AirPod-like earbud headphones in her ears. While AirPods would certainly not be out of place in a video game set in the modern day, there's speculation that earbuds may be something either Jason or Lucia can wear whenever they want--which means they can listen to GTA VI's versions of the famous GTA radio stations whenever they want as well. Trailer 2 shows when Jason's gameplay beginsThere's a scene at the start of Trailer 2 where we see Jason enter his home, with the camera hugging his right shoulder. Seasoned gamers will recognize a setup like this, so many believe this scene is transitioning to where the player takes control of Jason--maybe even for the first time. Potential character-select screenIn a similar vein, a shot of Jason and Lucia embracing out front of a Vice City nightclub--found on the official GTA VI website--uses a sweeping camera shot to capture the moment, first in front of Jason, then moving to Lucia. Theorists suggest this could end up being the "character-select" screen, where players will choose which of the two they want to control. Jason is an undercover copJason and Lucia's relationship, based on the first two trailers, seems like a grounded, down-to-earth, realistic depiction of what a modern relationship looks like. So, of course, some in the community think it's all fake, because Jason is actually an undercover cop and will eventually bust her.Trailer 2 throws fuel onto this speculative fire with one character directly calling Jason a "fed," while a security guard at the prison Lucia's being held in asks Jason if he'd been there before, to which Jason responds, "I might have been." Whether Jason is a cop or not, fans still think… Jason and Lucia's relationship will end in betrayal…that Jason and Lucia are star-crossed lovers, who are headed for a bitter end thanks to a betrayal of some kind. The community is split on exactly who will do the betraying, and there are solid arguments for both. Watch, the betrayal we all expect will never come, and the two will live happily ever after on a beach somewhere. Heists are backA cheeky reference to action flick Fast Five--where a car is dragging what looks to be a safe through the streets--might actually be hinting at the return of Heists, which were a big part of GTA V's story and GTA Online's experience. Switch 2 might not be able to handle itThe tech wizards at Digital Foundry have a theory of their own, and fans of portable consoles are not going to be pleased. Despite its more powerful contents, DF seems to think that Nintendo Switch 2--another highly anticipated gaming item which launches June 5--might not be able to handle GTA VI, even at the same 30fps framerate as the trailer. One game, two islandsEarlier we mentioned that some think all of the references of Liberty City are signaling a return there in some capacity. However, based on a keen viewer's screenshot, Leonida itself may be larger than it seems, as a postcard for the fictional state shows two separate islands rather than one large landmass. Is that Michael's boat? Finally, at one point in the trailer, we see a nice boat sitting on a rig in a storage yard. A few smart GTA theorists went back and checked, and the boat bears a striking resemblance to the boat owned by Michael De Santa, one of three protagonists from GTA V. Whether or not there's a connection between GTA VI and its predecessors, in any capacity, remains to be seen, though this would continue the tradition of GTA games making cheeky references to their predecessors.

  • #333;">Fallout Season 2 Teaser Hits the Internet, Reveals Fresh Look at New Vegas
A brief teaser for Fallout Season 2 has hit the internet, showing a new look at New Vegas. The clip, shown during the Amazon Upfront livestream overnight, was captured and uploaded on reddit.
It shows Lucy (Ella Purnell) and The Ghoul (Walton Goggins) 50 miles out from what was Las Vegas.
We hear the famous Geiger Counter sound, signifying radiation is in the air.
The Ghoul and Lucy look at each other before heading towards New Vegas, and we get a good look at the post-apocalyptic city skyline.New Vegas is of course the setting for the Obsidian-developed Fallout: New Vegas, and the setting for Season 2 of the Fallout adaptation. So, what can we learn about the show's take on New Vegas from this teaser? Well, it’s more detailed than the brief look we got at New Vegas at the end of Season 1, which stands to reason.
It will look familiar to anyone who's played New Vegas, although it appears more densely packed with buildings (the video game New Vegas was a relatively sparse location). The standout is of course the Lucky 38 Resort and Casino, which is on the New Vegas Strip.
In the New Vegas video game, the Lucky 38 is the pre-War casino from which Mr.
    House runs the city.
Fans also believe they can make out the Ultra-Luxe, but in truth it’s hard to discern individual video game locations from the shot here.PlayWarning! Potential spoilers for the Fallout TV show follow. The show is confirmed to be heading to New Vegas for Season 2, and it's not just about the location itself.
    Mr.
House is set to be a part of the new season, though how involved he'll be is unclear.
We've already seen the tease of some familiar sights thanks to previous set leaks, including this video that shows part of New Vegas and the iconic Lucky 38 resort and casino, all bright and lit up.
It's certainly far from the rusty place you might expect. It’s worth remembering where we are in the Fallout timeline: the TV show is set in the year 2296, after all the Fallout video games.
Fallout 4 takes place in the year 2287, while Fallout: New Vegas is set in the year 2281, a full 15 years prior to the events of the show. So, what happened in the 15 years since we last saw New Vegas? Co-showrunners Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet have said the setting has changed, and explained why that is important for fans to note.“All we really want the audience to know is that things have happened, so that there isn't an expectation that we pick the show up in Season 2, following one of the myriad canon endings that depend on your choices when you play [Fallout: New Vegas],” Wagner said last year.“With that post-credits stuff, we really wanted to imply, guys, the world has progressed, and the idea that the wasteland stays as it is decade-to-decade is preposterous to us.
It’s just a place [of] constant tragedy, events, horrors — there's a constant churn of trauma.
We're definitely implying more has occurred.”But what will happen when the Power Armor-clad Overseer Hank, played by Kyle MacLachlan, turns up (potentially after a dustup with a Deathclaw)? Some speculate Mr.
House, the enigmatic ruler of New Vegas in the video game and dastardly boss of RobCo Industries in the TV show’s flashbacks to before the bombs fell, may enlist the help of Hank to restore New Vegas to its former glory.
Perhaps, if that’s the way the story goes, the forces of Mr.
House and New Vegas will end up taking on the Brotherhood of Steel in yet another Fallout faction battle, with Lucy, Maximus, and The Ghoul caught in the middle.Overnight, Amazon announced a December 2025 release window for Season 2, and confirmed Season 3.
Last week, Aaron Moten, who plays Brotherhood of Steel hopeful Maximus, said the “endpoint” of the Fallout TV show has it running until Season 5 or Season 6.We had a great time with Season 1, writing in IGN's Fallout The Series review that the show is "a bright and funny apocalypse filled with dark punchlines and bursts of ultra-violence [and is] among the best video game adaptations ever made," slapping it with a well-earned 9/10.To help tide you over until Season 2, here's our interview with Todd Howard and Jonathan Nolan covering all our burning questions after the end of Season 1.Wesley is the UK News Editor for IGN.
